  • can you say "artist"

  • That's one patient little girl.

  • This is a brilliant demonstration Gerard, regard you as a master.

  • amazing

  • This is wonderful! Pastels are a hard medium to use for portraits,in my opinion. So right on! Thank you for this!

  • This is amazing! It would have been cool to see the girl's reaction when she was the picture. :)

  • pedo painter :))

  • fantastic....

  • what are the materials and type of pastel u are using?

  • Wow! I learned a lot from watching your video. I am sure the little girl must have been really happy to see her portrait :)

    You have great skill!!!

  • gert attis work on steets cuz they have no imagnation

  • @0ImSoSorry0 philistine Jesus how can you call me a philistine you don't even know me, your just assuming that i dont love art because one particular painting is not to my taste i think that actually would prove the face that im not a philistine because i at least understand enough about ark to know what i like and what i dont

  • lessons won't do you any good if you can't draw for shit.

  • this is amazing good job.

  • This is amazing.

  • man how ppl can not like this????? this awesome.. that guy is my hero...those skills are gifts from god

  • ¡que maravilla!, precioso el retrato, enhorabuena.

  • Beautiful, I would like to know the color you used for the face. Thank you

  • good day bro! seems that you are using diffrent kinds of pastel, can you tell me what are they called and the brand that you are using. Thanks for the video.

  • @archangelmike07

Most of the pastel I use are home made. I also use Rembrandt for details

  • @GerardMin wow!! you actually make your own pastel, can you make a video on how to make pastel, I mean if you can give us your secrete!! hehehe!!! Thanks!!

  • Gorgeous :3 It's my dream to draw like you someday. Tho I'm still failing with colors.

  • How much did you charge that day for doing that portrait?

  • 80 euros

  • @GerardMin Thank you for answering such a sensitive question sir. You're awesome!!!

  • @GerardMin only 80 euros? wow, you did a fantastic job. :)

  • hello i would like to ask your using a soft pastel for this? and i would like to ask if the finishing black color you used is a pastel black for the hair or the charcoal pencil?

  • Yes soft pastel and some hard pastel for details. The finishing black is the one from Rembrandt.

  • This is amazing. When you did her eyes, I sort of felt something amiss in her hair! But, you did her hair wonderfully later! I was highly impressed by the way you did her hair! Can you please tell me which types of 'off-the-shelf' pastels can we use in place of your home made pastels which can give the desired effect? Also are there any tools for smudging these pastels? Thanks! Brilliant job again!

  • increible,,,truly amazing and very talented.

  • My God - this is A-MAzing! :)

  • wow that's amazing!

  • when that kid grows up, shes gonna be HAAWWTT

  • BRAVO!! beautiful portrait. Just out of curiosity, what lead holder are you using? :)

  • wow!!!!!!!!!

  • wow...wonderfull, maravilloso...perfecto..

  • at 6:20 i was waiting for your portrait to blinkin'... :D perfection!

  • I have chalk pastels and they are horrible. They are..like dust ..you know?

    Your pastels look ...creamy...

    Are they oil pastels?

Can u recomand me a company that produces ...pastels like your home made pastels?

    What paper are you using?

Please answer...i (my parents) don;t want to waste money anymore on wrong pastels...

  • Wonderful! I am so glad that I came across this.

    You are very talented.

  • WHAT PASTELS ARE YOU USING? PLEASE answer, i 've been looking for this kind of pastels for months !!

  • I use mainly my own pastels, home made, some Rembrandt and Faber Castell for details.

  • also it's a shame we couldn't see the girl's reaction

  • WOW the portrait looked so different after he did her eyes, so very impressive

  • Bonjour,

Beau portrait surtout en 30 minutes!

La 1ere couche de couleur pour les cheveux : est-ce du noir ?

  • @F1963Mtl

Oui, l'artiste a mis ses cheveux d'abord dans le noir de l'autre côté dans le brun.

  • i love your work, cheers'

    lynda x

  • how long did this take you to make. Congrats on the little girls patience!

  • I can not believe all the negative comments, I think the little girl is adorable and you did a wonderful expert job in rendering her. It is very hard to keep a child focused and still, I love the pastel painting.

  • what kind of kid has enough patience to sit still that long

  • solo tengo una palabra para describir a ese hombre: VIRTUOSO

  • reminds me of quentin de la Tour. smooth

  • Imagine how much pussy he gets...lol!!!

  • @F150draggin22s Little strange to say that on a portrait of a little girl. But okay, whatever floats your boat.

  • You are very good

  • Impressive. I'd like to know more about your home-made pastels. Is it more expensive to make or buy pastels? Cost is really high. Also would like to see your colors displayed in a video.

    Thanks

  • Making your own pastels cost you 10 times less that buying them but it is time consuming. It is interresting if you use a lot. I make my pastel to have my own hues and right softness for my paper. IF I have a lot of request I will make a vid showing my colors.

  • It'd be neat to watch you make your pastels; the process.

  • @GerardMin Mr. Gerard-

I'd like to throw my vote in favor of a vid showing your colors, perhaps even how you make them. Needless to say, you are a remarkable artist with a wealth of knowledge to impart to those with less experience. BTW, a couple of questions:

    1) Was that a leadholder with graphite lead that you were using in the beginning?

    2) Did you use a black marker on the nose and other places?

Thank you and I hope to hear from you soon.

  • Yes it is a leadholder but the mine in it is a Sepia light from "La toison d'or" (previously Koh-I-Noor ) but you can do your sketch with a Conté 2430 or 2454.

I use dark brown for the nostrils no black (never). This is a Sepia dark from the same brand I mentioned. The black I use around the eyes is a Conté Pierre noire pencil.

  • @GerardMin Please make that video!!

  • this is absolutely insane for 30 mins of work and for a sitting with a kid.

    Beautiful art.

  • Amazing. I would be perfectly happy with life if I were HALF as talented as you. Beautiful rendering.

  • HAHAHA!!!

  • @GerardMin What a moron. But to some extent, you can take what he said as a compliment.

  • your an idiot.

  • @DannyAces

    FAIL.

  • @DannyAces You fail big time.

  • @ArtistCrystalLJ

Way to comment on something I wrote almost a year ago and misuse the term 'fail' you stupid, ignorant, son-of-a-bitch, dumb bastard

  • Simplemente magnifico

  • WOW!

  • ...a bit dramatic but you are a god of drawing :)

  • What an amazing artist you are. I was enthralled watching you create such a wonderful likeness of the little child. A wonderful gift from God. Her parents must be very pleased. I just began working with pastels and you are an inspiration. I'm interested to know what kind of pastels you use. Keep making videos, please. Very helpful.

  • I stand agog.

  • Wonderful portrait, you have a great style and do a really good job with shading.

The few things that I think you could have done to improve it were little things like her mouth should have been wider and thinner, nose slightly wider and longer, the eye tilt's off on the outside and her face needed more shadow on the right as it had more angle to it than most children's.

  • I have no skills.

  • love the nose

  • that's amazing O.o, makes oil portraits look a bith pathetic.

  • @wtfohdead DEPENDS WHO'S PAINTING

  • i wanted to see the reaction of the parents and the kid.You really know what your doing if you can do a fidgety kid in pastel in under 30 mins. If you put too many layers on the whole thing looks muddy, too little it looks all translucent. Its a very frustrating medium!

  • celui-çi, environ 30 mns,

  • Hey Gerard,

Can you use soft pastel on printing paper?

  • pastel is a material to use on grainy paper or velour paper, unless your printing paper is a bit grainy, you can't use pastels on it.

  • woa...

  • Wow! that was amazing

    that guy can draw

  • holy crap thats good

  • I stumbled upon this. Great!

  • same

  • samsies faggot

  • I am amazed. I almost expected the portrait to move. The eyes are so real O_O

  • i want one!!! excelent work

  • absolutely incredible.. it was astounding to watch how the unfinished pieces all fell into place by the end. beautiful doesn't even begin to describe that drawing :]

that poor girl was fidgeting the whole time too

    hehe

  • I am amazed, especially the eyes, they seem almost alive. very deep and soulful. beautiful portrait.

  • extremely amazing and talented. i'm very very speechless at how beautiful it is

  • Are you sure the video wasn't sped up 3x?

Because if it were 30 minutes and the video was sped by two, it would be 15 minutes.

  • I kept in the video only the very active steps, no need to waste time with the moments you don't see my hand on the canvas....And I don't want to speed up the video too much. Thanks for your pertinent question:)

  • Ah, right. That makes more sense, sorry I hang myself up on details all the time. Strength and weakness.

  • Really great work.

  • not terrible

  • the girl in the painting looks much prettier.

  • WOW!! Amazing..I learned a couple techniques watching you I'm gonna start trying...thanx for a great vid..

  • Hanhemulhe , german velour paper . I think it is the best one.

  • Wow, what can I say, I'm speechless....its just so beautiful! I admire you SO much!! I love the colors you use; your technique is just so tender yet strong!

My deep admiration and respect, Mr. Mineo!

By the way, where can you buy that paper?

    Cheers,

    -Wendy

  • A picture can tell a thausand words...

    I really enjoy watching it..
