Hey, i used to live in GR back in 81", this was always played every friday back then too. I had no idea this was the guy that did it, Dang, what a flump i am for being so dense. This made my Whole Weekend Roll right, every weekend.
Mr. Like you said your song set off a mood , I'm 41 and I live in the Detroit area , your song elued me for years, like you wouldnt beleive I beleive your one of the great song writeres (I've been drinking) you are my favs! I'm a 41 year old guy that fell in love with your tune when I was 15, could u send me a graph> or if your in the Detroit area stop by? you fucking rock!
My dad just passed away this Friday, Befor he got to hear his friday song. Him and my mom would always crank this song as soon as it Came on. I'll listen to it from now and remeber him fondly. I love you dad.
I'm from CT and I95 rock plays this tune every friday at 5:00 also. Time to put my good buzz on...then go down to the kitchen and fix me somethin good to eat ;)
i was a teenager in the 70's......there is still nothing like "laying around the shanty".......especially on a cold winter night in Maine!!.......really a great song!!
I grew up in the Boston area but my mom grew up in Grand Rapids. All of my cousins, aunts and uncles still live there. Could I be an honerary Michigander/Rapidian?
I remember listening to this on WLAV in Grand Rapids back in high school -- 30 years ago. I never knew Jonathan Edwards even did anything besides "The Friday Song."
OMG!! I am so glad there is someone else from Grand Rapids that remembers this song! WLAV ROCKED!!!! I remember riding home on the city bus, hoping that my route had "the rocker" Memories for sure!!!!
yeah, can't keep us down! Well, to all my GR "buddies"... crank this song, and PARTY like we used to! (or some of us still do..lol) IT'S FRIDAY!!!!!!!!!!!!
Too cool. He should re-do a (1st time?) video of this song. Luv the guy comin out of nowhere playin different instruments. He should keep doin it through the whole song. Would make for a great video theme. The original recording is a frickin' anthem in this state. Aloha from Detroit.
I was huge into J-E's LPs circa 1973. Just got back into them after 35 years! I wonder if Stuart on bass and fiddle there might be the one on his old LPs--Schulman?
man, what a great tune, my trio has been covering this - not enough people playing this kind of music anymore! you can find our version if you look up owentoomusic on Youtube (Owen Too is the name of the band). great post! OwenTooMusic
I have met him a couple times and seen him a couple more than that and man he is one of the best guys and best songwriter/performers i have ever seen live. He's a great guy. Thanks for the Great music Jonathan! Remember the Stone Jug in Kent Ohio! Oh what happened to the 1970's! ha ha!
I just played on the same bill last summer with the Numbers Band.Robert Kidney is one great guy.He is a very gracious man as well as a damned fine talent!
Saw him in November,1971 or was it 1972? at Massassoit Community College, in MA. Good show. Everyone was screeming for "Sunshine" and he was a little pissed, saying "OK, so you listen to the radio." He finally rushed through it and moved on. They should have treated him better I thought at the time. Was that ever a long time ago.
