Vote your congressman out of there. After 30 years of failed policy and same old ideas it is time for a change of course. We need a government that supports U.S. industry and U.S. job creation. This recession is not a cycle we are here for a reason and that reason is that we have no industrial base to drive the economy. To afford healthcare people need respectable jobs. Most countries aren't foolish enough to create policy that destroys their industrial base.
Idiot politicians and their self serving trade deals have destroyed your city. Washington has truly destroyed America. Big manufacturing once paid for a large share of the nations schools and fueled the federal treasury. Now local governments our in trouble along with the federal government who can't pay it's bills either.
Growing up in Aliquippa and studying the demise of the steel industry there is not a single factor that brought it about, rather a series of mistakes, almost a comedy of errors, on the parts of nearly everyone involved. Government had no understanding of the nature of the industry and severely limited American steelmakers; company officials refused to acknowledge a changing economic climate; union's refusal to have realistic expectations; and cheaper foreign steel imports from Europe and Japan
I do not think the unions put the steel mills out of business. I am from Pgh. I think the one world economy, the likes of today, was a plan back then as well as corporate greed. Get past the bs and get to the deal. The rust belt made this country an ecomonic and military power and without it (mfg), we will not be. If you think either political party would have helped or will help, you will be disappointed. It has been in a state of decay at least 30 years - which party helped - neither!
I only hear stories from my relatives about the long past ... the rich heritage of my hometown, Aliquippa. I still have quite a few relatives and good friends who still live in the vicinity of; If people look at the majority of my videos, they will notice that they are film locations or ones which I like. I am hoping a film crew comes there one day and breathes some life back into Aliquippa. I hear my hometown came close w/a CBS (television pilot) called "Three Rivers".
Many typos were made as I was emotionally enveloped into the video. Divorce ran rampant in The Rust Belt as Family finances were left in ruin. To Aliquippa and Pittsburgh's Credit the region continues to fight back a quarter century after its demise. Corporate America abandoned the area leaving it devastated and Ronald Reagan is now a bitter memory, but Aliquippa's Hey Day still lives on in our hearts.
What happen to Aliquippa, PA , the same thing that happen to the mations rust belt in the mid 1980's. Manufacturing in America's steel industry crumbled and the Republican Party in charge under Ronald Reagan thumbed their nose at the strongly democratic region. Unemployment in Aliquippa hit 25% as a one time proud community was brought to its knees. Divorse, suicides , foreclosures and repossesions became the norm. The region lost a quarter million people and families were destroyed.
Yeah, I'm all too familiar with families being destroyed. The toughest thing to do was and still is for me ... keeping positive with what's happening all over. My mom just said the other day if I had any positive news for her because it's all bad news back home. It's really tough to see and feel all the pain coming thru the ages...
What are you talking about? Everyone from Pittsburgh knows that the reason the steel mills are not in Pgh anymore is because the UNIONS put them selfs out of business.
It was the home of once the world's largest steel plant; the early history is lost & forgotten. When I was growing up was the collapse. Many famous people come from this town. Nat'l Football (& Basketball) League Hall of Famers-NFL/Major League Baseball players, CIA, military, Former Surgeon US General, and others like Henry Mancini, composer (Pink Panther), etc. Interesting...
