You can use a "grandfather cart" to pull the groceries home.. at least, that's what we call them over here. It's a cart on two wheels with a very deep basket that you drag behind you (like dragging a suitcase through an airport). You can put loads of stuff in them and wheel it back to your apartment - which is easily doable if you live within about 1 km of a supermarket.. and if you have more stuff than the basket holds you tie the bags to the handle. I use one all the time - easier than a bike
Why leave your precious Brompton outside the shop - just partially fold it (rear triangle underneath, front wheel folded back and seatpost dropped but handlepost still upright and with bag attached) and use it as a shopping trolley! The first time I did this I expected to be challenged by the staff (of Waitrose) but no one batted an eyelid. I have since regularly taken it like this into many supermarkets and have never been challenged (although some customers and staff have asked me about it).
I find that larger amounts of hard liquor can be placed in a knapsack if required. Or over a long weekend small children can be bribed with chocolate and candy to carry the extra liquor. Its quite a sight to see 3-4 local children with giant bags of liquor running behind a drunkard on a bicycle.
Keep it up!

You should save the environment by going "air free". Just put a plastic bag on your head and do us all a favor.

Only one bottle of wine? That's hardly worth the trip!

@WOODRUFFAPTS Just wait until I get a trailer! Will load up the wine. However, the wine is from Waitrose so it's quality vs quantity.
