Hi, Liz! While Homespun won't run through the standard, you can find a similar kinky (try to avoid slubby or hairy) yarn that would look bulkier than normal on the regular machine. If you use the ribber and a thick stitch like that double fisherman's rib, it'll be thick and warm.
I used two skeins of Homespun, deliberately used it up leaving only a few yards for binding off. You can also ply 3 industrial yarns like 2/30s to get a tweedy, thick look.
