with that kind of dropshot hook, its actually better to have it rigged the way he has it set up. Theres no wrong way to hook it up, but the hook is designed the way it is so its always in perfect position to be set.
As for the long tag, sometimes a short tag is what you need. In REALLY cold water, when the bass are laying on the bottom of the lake, an 18 inch tag wont get bit, where as one thats 10-12 inches will due to the mood of the fish.
You should put a longer tag end and nose hook the strait tail worm, robo, manns whatever... Then shake the tip of the rod without lifting the weight off the bottom. Then nake a vid and put it on here.
