  • nice move

  • I have been learning for a little while now at my local club.... they wont know I've been watching on here, you just wait until I hit a few of these on the other newbies lol. The reason they wont know is because this isn't my real name lol hahaha hahaha aaahhh hahahaaa

  • ouch.

  • I noticed expert village have 138,551 videos O.o

  • As far as I know the overwhelming advantage of a monkey-grip is to avoid broken thumbs. I don't think it's a stronger grip, just safer.

I'm a full-on noob tho so could be wrong.

  • @DrunkenPoetic It actually has been proven to be stronger. It uses more muscles in the hand.

  • @EpicMind It's important because 1. it's a lot more powerful than the grip with the thumb, and 2. in certain cases, if you grip with your thumb there is a chance of breaking your thumb if your opponent forces against it.

  • @MegaFirefli it's very rare in mma that your going to finish a submission without ever getting hit while executing it, I'm not saying that the hits will be very powerful, but for sure your opponent will try to hit you at the same time as trying to escape.

  • No rear hook or open front knee ??? Prepare to be swept.

  • theres much easier way to do this! this is wank tutorial and just making it sound more confusing lol

  • this is just a kimura...

  • @jackstocking

    Nope.

    Its different.

I can see why you think it looks the same though.

  • @jackstocking ofc this isnt a kimura, it's a wayy diffrent way of bending the arm, go watch UFC and you will know the diffrence ^_^

  • how do you turn off these damn ads?

  • just go for his nuts and hes down! below the belt but still you're the one wining the fight :P

  • Aaron frutaroca?

  • The Americana is my favorite jiu jitsu move.

  • this is not a kimura ???

  • @Christiankof97 kimura=americana

  • @shikamarushino no its not... when u are doing kimura, u grab his in this case left hand with your right, and with other you do that thing, as u see, americana is different ;)

  • @PlaceniUbica Why is it so important to grap without using your thumb?

  • @EpicMind its very easy fot them to get broken

  • @EpicMind

Because its a much stronger grip.

I wish I could explain but its very hard to explain through a text.

  • i lernt it another way

  • Dude, this move looks really effective in the ring!

  • what colour belt is that, grey????

  • isn't this just a kimura? or are they the same thing?

  • @whitie1987 a kimura is when the opponet hand is facing toward there hip. a americana is when there opponet hand is facing the head.

  • @whitie1987 Actually, it's not a Kimura. That is because a kimura is done with the same arm being warped around the opponent arm, eg: My left arm warps around your left arm. The americana is done, as you can see in this video, the opposite way, my left arm warps your right arm.

  • kimura

  • How do i watch this without all the writing all over the front??? Thanks!!!

  • @radiolamb007 i had the same problem. press the red "CC" button on the bottom right of the video screen. apparently its set to default for some of these videos

  • i still seen numerous mma fights where the percentage get out of the americana i think the best sub is triangle choke because u can also slap on a arm bar at the same time ala fedor vs werdum rear nake choke second

  • now my girlfriend wont toss me around anymore!!!! yes!! i break her arm !!

  • After 1:06 you start hearing her little arm snap.

  • @SimulationCharacter1 Its just the tatami ground ^^

  • I love this hold... If I get in a street fight and I get full mount (90% of the time) I will use this but I don't care if they tap... I just pull tighter, lol.

  • Why no thumb? Doesn't it's stronger with thumb?

  • It is also called the "Paint Brush" because you are acting like you are stroking a paint brush. My cousin teaches Brazilian Jiu Jitsu as an Army Ranger so I am learning some

  • its a woman below, rare!!

  • @jhakhohbhy

    not for me mate..

  • @sanucues I know, I also learnt it standing. But in mma you don't really go for a standing americana lol.

  • Well as a Gracie Jiu Jitsu student i know how hard they go for details. Two mistakes he made.

    1. The hand that slides under should be palm up to make it easier (minor detail)

    2. His head should be down to protect from punches. (major detail)

    Thats my two cents.

  • @Jetfan2562 I agree.

  • i really like this one, thanks

  • 95% of the time fights end up on the ground!!!!!!

the individual with the best ground technique

will win the fight!!! whether you ignorant

    people like that or not;;

    its reality......

  • I do jiu jitsu for grappling and mhuay tai for striking

  • EL COWARDO!! Doing it to a woman... Just kidding.

  • your all stupid

  • Of course in the street you don't want to go to the ground, that's why if you're training in martial arts specifically to defend yourself in the street you don't want to have only BJJ training or only stand up training, you want the most diverse martial arts possible.

  • @Confusedzz true sancues jui jitsu and aki jui jitsu use

    both techiques standing and ground

  • While your rolling around on the ground what's to say that a friend of a guy you're fighting doesn't just kick your face in, or etc? All good martial artists should know submissions but they're not the be all and end all and certainly are not as effective in the streets where it really is no rules.

  • @orestes1984

Of course no-one wants to go to the ground where it's dangerous, BJJ will help you get up I beleive MMA is the best and you, even well trained people cannot avoid going to the ground thats why I believe MMA to be the best, and you can quickly dislocate your attackers shoulder with this move.

  • i am gonna snap so many cunts arms lol

  • lmao

  • @maxgunn555 of course he can hit you a couple of times in 3 seconds but what does it matter? if you're a trained mma fighter or trained in any martial arts you can take those couple of hits and just finish your technique, in every technique there is a chance of you getting hit, can't stop using it because of that.

  • In the end you don't want to go to the ground, and that's one thing that really does lack in a lot of BJJ schools. They don't teach stand up fighting and as a trained martial artist I'm going to have the fight over before it reaches the ground.

  • @orestes1984 some do train standing

  • @Confusedzz In MMA if he starts hitting you, you can always cover your head by putting it to the side where you have the lock on and. That gives you some protection against hits to your head, but theres a risk that he can bridge himself out of there. Also you can push his free arm in to the ground and move your knee over his muscle. That gives you more protection on mount position, it makes your opponents position uncomfortable and there isnt so big risk of being bridged off the mount.

  • @Confusedzz that is very true in a sense but you can finish your technique without getting hit because there is always a way to get out of a bad situation

  • crb999 tell me how would you punch in armbar? with ur third hand eh?

  • @Tumppe1337 you still can punch an opponent while he armbars you, if you want a debate just reply and im gonna show you a video :P

  • @Tumppe1337 heel of ur foot haha

  • @Tumppe1337 u stretch his arm across your thigh resting his tricep on your thigh while pushing down on his wrist with the tricep of the same side as the thigh ur using. Now you have your arm bar and your other arm is free to hammer-fist.

  • Everyone has a punching chance in a fight. True. A JIU JITSU FIGHTER is always ready to take that arm and break it. It's about awareness, position, and execution. Nevertheless, the element of surprise makes it all exciting.

  • why not no bra and panties while your at it?

  • lol oldskoolangel, just shows that you have no mma experience or very little. It takes maybe 3 seconds to get that position, and when you get it there is no punches that the opponent can hit to damage you, even if he could he wouldn't have time because he would tap out before being able to hit.

  • theres litterally 0 or very few submissions where your opponent can't strike you its just about being faster than he is and making the pain to unbearing for him to strike.

  • @crb999 what about the triangle choke?

  • @Confusedzz you think the opponent won't hit you in the time period of only 3 seconds. 3 seconds can be a lot of time in a fight.

  • There's a saying a training partner of mine has about that.

"I'll let you give me a few bruises if I can take your arm."

  • ooooo..... nice position, hahahahahahah!!!

  • thats a key lock

    right?

  • yes, same thing.

  • any body has any idea why u must grab ur wrist with no thumbs he repeats a lot so it must be important

  • THANKS wtf u got spammed for ?

  • if you have the thumbs around the wrist and not on top you don't have as much grip, like it can slide out because it doesn't have a deeper hold. try it on your wrist with your hand, hold it with your thumb and then with the thumb on top, give it a try you'll see the difference.

  • Using thumbs in a grip is not as strong as it seperates your hand muscles and weakens the grip...this is how my instructor explained it anyways.

  • When you use your thumb it is going against your other fingers. When you use your thumb it is easier for your opponent to counter and/or escape

  • cause you can break your thumb

  • it's a reversed kimura?

  • not realy

  • its called figure 4

  • What kind of people would thumbs down spiritslain's comment?!

It really does make me sick...

  • hes doing the move slightly incorrect, he does not need his weight to hold her hand in place, just hook the wrist and put some weight in the elbow to keep her head from moving. when reaching under her arm he should be reaching palm up to allow his fingers to wiggle there way through. this is way i was tought by Rener Gracie

  • I wanna see somebody do that and just wrench the defenders elbow. Does anybody know where I can find a vid. like that?

  • actually it hurts the shoulder region if done correctly

  • I was taught that it could be called either keylock or figure 4 lock. Thank you spiritlain for your input. It seems people have forgotten this truth.

  • L Shoulde Lock tsmma

  • Comment removed

  • What are you trying to get at?

  • lol what the hell

  • this is called a figure 4 arm lock where i come from. you have to make sure that u bring the persons hand in a tight to their body as possible then paint and lift in an arc its more effective and yeah tight less chance the can bridge and stuff

  • Lol advertising much

  • its really called a kimura or keylock

  • No, the Kimura is the opposite, with the fingers racing the feet..it's a keylock..but in BJJ it's called the "Americana"..it was named after American Wrestlers that were training in Brazil with Rolls Gracie in the ealry 70's, thus the term "Americana" was created in BJJ...

  • huh?

its nothing like a kimura :S

  • It's like a kimura in the sense you bring your arm around your opponent's and grab your own wrist :)

  • i spose

  • yes it is a kimura, its just from mount

  • same application?

  • this is a favorite of mine its basic but sometimes the basics are what gets the win.

it doesnt usually work from mount tho because u can just bump and roll your opponent, side mount its awesome tho

  • Why would they call it an "Americana" Who comes up with the names to something that already exists and already has a name? I don't get it. I think the move is most probably older than 200 years. I'm American ,by the way.

  • its also called a key lock

  • Comment removed

  • It's a keylock in Catch wrestling..but in BJJ it's term is the "Americana" termed after some American wrestlers who used it training with the Gracies in Brazil in the late 60's early 70's...thus the Gracies named the techniue the "Americana"

  • nice move...i love doing it from side control

  • its called side guard

  • lol (N)

  • thts rape lol

  • We Dont Do Them Moves In Kickboxing But It Looks Cool !! :]

  • LMAO AT THE BEGINNING

  • This is an americana not a kimura! this is an arm lock! a kimura is the same texhnique but reversed used effectivly in guard posotion! in this video he is in high mount position!

  • a kimura shoulder lock not only has the opposite hand placement, but rotates the opposite direction, focusing the pressure on the shoulders radial movement. This video is an americana

  • retards, this IS an americana, this is an arm lock not a shoulder lock.

  • americana attacks the shoulder as well dude

  • Actually I think you can dislocate the shoulder with this. We can do this same lock while standing up(Aikido).

    I believe it's this one.

    watch?v=27rN189_EwA

  • kimura is with the arm goin the other way.... this is an americana

  • i can see a taekwondo sign on the wall:D

  • Exepert Village always has the WORST video clips.

  • this is a americana, tard.

  • its a kimura not americana, American is the martial art of 100 years ago, change in the Japanese martial art is about 800 years ago...therefore this is a Kimura......XD.

  • in japanese they dont use the term kimura, they say ude garami, the brazillians called it "kimura" becuase Masahiko Kimura a judo fighter, beat Heilo gracie with it in 1951.

  • bad technique, check Submissions 101

  • its an americana

  • the kirmura isnt an arm lock its a shoulder lock smarts, this is an americana

  • yea some people call it the paintbrush cuz your painting the floor with their hands

  • OK Why grab with no thumb??????????

  • It's a stronger grip than with the thumb, plus due to the dynamics of the shoulder lock, thumbs aren't necessary.

  • isnt this called omoplata too ?

  • no, omoplata uses the legs.

  • if only there were people who actually cared about this stuff where i lived, then i could actually try it out

  • we also call this move a KEYLOCK...more better from the side mount

  • Yeah thats what we call it.

  • isn't that pretty much like the kumura?

  • kinda, but reversed sorta

  • in judo, american and kimura are both called ude garami so they do come from the same style of sumbission, the difference is that one is up and the other is down.

  • how would you defend against that

  • Reach your other arm over and grab your gi by the elbow, then pull it across towards the arm that you're grabbing with.

Submissions101 has all the good defenses and I learned from them. I used it in class and it worked each time.

  • great videos...

  • now why would you type that?!

  • hahahahahaha exactly!!!! LMFAO!!!

  • ok i typed in "rape" search and this is what i found??

  • pause it at :30, youll find what youre looking for.

  • she can take me out an eye with the other hand...

  • That's true, but a skilled jiu jitsu practitioner would be waiting for that arm to extend toward the face. An armbar would greet her nicely. Better off using the defense that is suggested above. Then using an elbow escape or upa to get away from the position.

  • i would rip her gi off and hit it to win it.!!!

  • i would rip her gi off and hit it to win it.!!!

  • Basic Kimura...done wrong...he doesn't shift his weight to the other side. I would roll him to the kimura side and go from mount to guard. Also, after key lock you need to pull the arm down to the hip before starting to raise and drag.

  • a kimura goes the other way. Her palm would be towards the mat. You can tell an americana is coming because of the first part where he put her arm to the ground. It is a lot harder to do from any other position, or at least there ar more moves involved in getting there.

  • that looks like a kimura

  • Isn't this just a normal ude-garami???

  • yes, it's the same move. in judo is ude-garami, in bjj they call "americana".

  • True. The reaso BJJ calls it Americana is because it was introduced to BJJ by the American wrestling team. The story is chronicled in the book "The Gracie Way." It's a good read.

  • i like how he does everything slowly with perfect form. ive known this move as the key-lock but the way i learned it was alot sloppier. nice job.

  • ok thanks, now im gonna try out on my buddys :)

  • yeah that'll pop yer shoulder right out...

  • ahh, the americana. my fave, next to the triangle choke and the guillotine XD

  • go guillotine one of my favs too

  • your just like me der ma fave 2

  • I like the arm bar myself. flying armbar even better : P
