Chris Mercer-Bare Wires(John Mayall) playing is some of the best sax ever laid down. You got me fucking trippin. I just recently transfered my Juicy Lucy albums (Lie Back & Enjoy)to CD. Now I'm never alone. This song is only a taste of what the entire 1st album has to offer-get the album.
Jeez, I played the Speak so many times I couldn't remember, mostly with Gonzalez. 40 years ago! Sorry for the time lapse, havn't visited this site for a while as you can see.
Hi Chris, Jus,thought I would say hello, Still blowin ? would be great to meet up at a gig. Ray no longer in the band, we are now a three piece and doing really well. I like the comment Sweet guy, He must have been skint or it was very early in the morning.
Glenn never used a lap on this song, always his four-legged fender. It is just possible that on one of the tv appearances he used a lap instead of dragging his twin neck around I suppose. The recordings were all done on the fender, apart from some of the later semi-acoustic songs after Paul williams was the front-man. I remember him using the lap in the studio, maybe on 'Whisky in my jar'?
yes he did ! until about 1972/3 I think from about 71. JL are still doing gigs and worth seeing ! look on their website ' juicy lucy returns' ( ps Im just a fan, not a manager or anything !)
Micky Moody replaced Tommy Eyre (the well known keyboardist, sadly deceased),after Neal left to join the Greaseband. Micky was with the band until Glenn and I called it quits in 71? You must understand this was a purely artificially created band by Nigel Thomas. Glenn, Neal and I just did it because we were skint at the time. For an exhaustively researched and well written history of Glenn Campbell and the real original JL, see Mike Stax's series in his San Diego Fanzine 'Ugly Things'
excellent. i have just purchased who do you love ...the anthology after 1st hearing you 20 years ago in the back of a hippy bricklayers car.thought it was a brilliant version of who do you love.i never heard anything by you ever again until i bought the cd last week.i think its great and havent stopped playing it thanks for the great music.
You will be interested to know that neither glenn nor I made a penny of 'who do you love', the manager Nigel Thomas kept all the advances, and lord knows where the money from all the re-issued compilations has gone. This was a cut that suited the singing style of Ray Owen, and was just one of those recordings that had something special about it.
what a bummer!sorry to hear that. still, you're in good company.just about everybody seemed to get shafted by their management or record label back then ,so i have read. you're guaranteed your place in rock n roll history by recording such a stomping version.its a great song and your's is up there with great versions too by the doors ,george thorogood.RESPECT!!!
sure, i play with about 4 different bands in my spare time, a great big band doing 40's black swing (Louis Jordan, Buddy Johnson etc, and a couple of New Orleans 'second line' bands, (Professor Longhair, The Meters type), also an R&B band with a 5 pc horn section. Great musicians, better than any you would ever find in UK at grass roots level.
Read all your comments, very interesting. Whats you name if you dont mind me asking ! I do like the early JL of course and have the great anthrology. The present JL though is at least still keeping people interested and getting people to hear of the band,as I , and plenty of others are too yooung to see or even hear of Juicy Lucy in 1971 ! ( I was 8) and only actually heard of you via the Ray Owen band of today. BUT now Im a fan of all eras, but I do like Rays vocals best. Take care.
Saw and talked with Ray Owen last night after he played in Horsham. This guy has still got it. Legend.

Hold on.
I remember seeing a lap steel guitar when I first saw this on "Top of the Pops"?
Sounds good but sounds better with that lap guitar thing.
