I don't know the backstory of Constantine, but Carla did mention Constantine's constant arguments with his father, Johannes, so this could have been the reason he was packed off to his aunt in Italy.
Constantine asks her if she knows what it is. 'Francesca' says that she doesn't know...a shell. Constantine says that it was their last holiday together, and asks if she remembers. 'Francesca' says that she can't remember every detail. Constantine says 'every detail...I nearly died'.
Constantine says 'sure'. She says that the young girls were after him when he was a child. 'Francesca' says that she would have liked to have seen him grow up and been by his side through the small and big problems. Constantine says he wished that also. She tells him that she thought of him every day, and that she missed him terribly. He says 'he did too'. Ansgar asks if they had a good chat. 'Francesca' says that they were just refreshing some old memories.
'Francesca' says that he has to believe her when she says that if there was a tiny chance that she could have done that she would have. She tells him that she is really sorry and then asks Ansgar to leave them alone. Ansgar says 'yes, naturally'. She tells him that she is sure that he will be a successful journalist. He says that he has a way to go yet. 'Francesca' says she is sure that there are loads of pretty girls lining up for him.
'Francesca' says that she heard. Constantine asks if she couldn't have given a sign that she was alive. Constantine asks if she knows what it was like for him...he didn't know anyone and his mother was dead. 'Francesca' says 'I wasn't dead'. Constantine says that as far as he was aware she was, and asks why couldn't have sent a letter or something. Ansgar says that she couldn't do that otherwise she would have been killed by the mafia, and he might have been killed also.
'Francesca' says that the last time she saw him he was just a child and now he is a young man. She says 'the whole time you thought I was dead'. Constantine says 'yes'. 'Francesca' says that he must think her terrible for doing that but says that she would have given everything if she didn't have to do what she did. 'Francesca talks about not being able to contact the family throughout the years. Constantine asks if she was aware that Johannes sent him to their aunt Carlotta in Italy.
'Francesca' asks Constantine if he will have a cup of tea with her. Constantine says that he was intending to go upstairs. 'Francesca' says that it won't take long and that she would just like to talk to him. Constantine agrees to a cup of tea. Leo says that he has to go and tells Ansgar to leave them alone. Ansgar says that he would also like to know how his young brother has been.
Ansgar asks what if Constantine wants the DNA test run again. 'Francesca' says that it won't come to that and that she'll take care of it. Ansgar asks her how she is going to do that. 'Francesca' says that she is sure that Constantine wishes nothing more than to have his mother alive. Ansgar says 'sure, but what if he still doesn't believe you'. 'Francesca' says 'don't worry'.
'Francesca' says that Ansgar can't expect that Constantine's feelings are there immediately and that time is needed, which they need to give Constantine. Ansgar tells her not to make any mistakes. Constantine says that one should be able to feel something, even if it 40 yrs ago. Carla agrees. Constantine asks if they are 100% sure that it's their mother. Carla says that they are 99.9% sure. Leo says tht the DNA test proved it.
'Francesca' says that everything will be fine, and that the others needed sometime until they believed her. Ansgar says that the plan had been going well...they had gotten rid of Elizabeth, and convinced Carla, and now Constantine had to turn up at this precise moment in time. 'Francesca' says what did he expect as it had been 14 yrs since Constantine had seen her last. Ansgar corrects her and says that it has been 14 yrs since Constantine had seen his real mother.
'Francesca' says to Constantine that she will see him later. Ansgar welcomes him home. Carla asks the maid to bring some food up for Constantine. Leo asks how long he is back. Constantine says 'not long'. Leo asks Carla if he knows. Carla tells Leo that he does and that they met mother. Leo tells them to sit. Carla says that the meeting wasn't long as Ansgar took her away. Leo asks Constantine what he has to say.
Ansgar says that it is no wonder Constantine doesn't recognise his mother as he was 6 yrs old when he last saw her. Carla asks Constantine was is irritating him. Constantine says he doesn't know and that it is just a feeling. Ansgar says that it is normal and that he was the same when he found out as they all thought that mother was dead, and he tells Constantine that he will feel something. Ansgar says that they have to go. 'Francesca' says 'do we' and then agrees that they have to leave.
