Good vid. I've been doing some research on this and it certainly seems like upshifts can be done just fine without the clutch. Is it hard to do it smoothly when your really rolling on a lot of throttle? Right now I preload the shifter when I upshift but still use the clutch, I think I'm gonna try this though.
I can't find on YouTube some one had said that the front brakes should never be used with out the back brake the back and front should be apply evenly what a ass hole that person was I wish I can remember that site....
hello! im about to buy a new bike, well its re owned, i cant afford a new one.,., but heres the thing, im used to 1 down 5 up, and this bike has the reverse gear box, 1 up 5 down. is it easy to get the hang of? what was it like for u? or did u start on these gear boxes.. ty
@crackerstolemybike this bike does not have a reverse gear box, the only reason I shift 1 up 5 down is because i flipped the shifting arm around so i could gp shift, if I flipped it back it would be 1 down 5 up again.
@crackerstolemybike no it was not easy to get used too, took about 3 solid months before i quit trying to shift standard pattern. Just muscle memory, takes getting used too.
Much better view!! I can blip on downchanges only if I use the rear brake, if I try with using the front I always pull the brake lever as I blip, how do I get around this?
@BlackFlag94 the biggest thing is when blipping and braking is the blips are very small, just enough to blip. Also move the brake lever closer to you that way you have some travel so when you blip your finger don't pull the brake lever more. It's all practice, takes getting used too.
I always find blipping easier with big blips otherwise i mess up somehow in another area... (I don't know how I just do ahaha) and the lever can't be moved on my current bike but when I change to my Suzuki SV650S i'll certainly see what I can do. Great advice, thankyou. Will deffinately start practicing again when my bike is road worthy again, 5 weeks off the road so far
Really great view of controls. My main problem is to get the exact amount of throttle blip. It's either to much or too little. Or maybe the clutch & lever are nor synchronized properly with the throttle ;). Anyway it depends so much on the feeling...
@WalrusAMV thanks, video's like this I will continue to do, if you have not check out my "Novice Series" playlist there's some good information there, these riding tip video's are part of that
@2wheelpaul the biggest advantage is matching engine speed with wheel speed vs just feeding the clutch out slowing. For me it makes the bike more stable as i'm not waiting on the rear wheel to catch up to the speed of the engine and or how fast I'm going, it helps greatly with track riding and in the mountains.
@Pittimus84 It also saves your gearbox a bit of a beating...
I had a friend on a mtn run about 2 months ago, highsided and killed his ZX6 coming into a corner fairly hot, downshifted and his rear locked up as he was tipping in. Blipping and keeping the revs up as he entered would have stopped this.
It's mainly used on the track but it is recomended you do it everywhere to get it in your system so it's natural reaction.
Another awesome view and intructional Pittimus. :)
@r1gester Thanks and very true, it does help your gear box a bit. I did add a edit about I do run reverse (GP) shift and IMO it is easier to blip like that. It took me about 3 solid months to get myself out of normal shit pattern and downshiting into GP and blipping until it was all reaction.
@BKingAndy A lot of people don't know what blipping is never heard of it or seen it. So pretty much you can't get too much of a better view of that entire process than this. I'm waiting for the question again what is blipping and what is it's purpose.

@Pittimus84 oh okay, but even so, was it easy to get the hang of the flipped gear shift? did you get used to it pretty quickly?
