  • @liam21157 Thank you Liam, I shall keep making them if you keep watching them.. ha ha ha. :-)

  • quite relaxing tunnel :)

not as much traffic jam than in the freeway tunnel in Hamburg and there are better lights in the tunnel than in Norway

  • @EnjoyFirefighting Thank you :-)

  • I cannot believe how MUCH i have enjoyed this drive. You have inspired me. I will now do similar. Thankyou so much for a touch of the mundane yet real. 5 stars++ I drive a HiAce myself.

  • @bonsobonga Thank you so much. That indeed is what I call a great comment and very much appreciated.

Good luck in your own production. :-)

  • I haven't been through there for nearly thirty years, what a superb piece of filming Paul....King of the White Van Tour Guides :o)....5* Bob

  • Ha Ha .. Like it Bob, nice one.

I doubt the tunnel has changed much in thirty years... :-)

  • @Bevoin1970 I hated driving through there Paul, which a did quite a few times whilst travelling through London.....we lived in Essex for a few years.....Bob

  • Great video Paul..

THX for another ride in London...

It really seams your just working at NIGHT..Keep up the great videos..

    Andy

  • Thanks Andy, yes it does appear that I do a lot of night time driving, Im on 24hr call, if Im driving during the night it is most likely because Im doing a Parcel run / trunk run etc. When I get back home, if Im feeling ok, I then do my day driving should any work come my way... Im self employed and therefore have to take what comes as and when it does.

    Thanks for watching Andy. :-)

  • Blackwall; the truck drivers friend!!!!

Southbound it is 15' 6" clearence; northbound only 13' 3".

Sounds like a vehicle in front of you had triggered the overheight warning sensor. All hell breaks loose when you do. Lights flash, warning sign goes on and 'Tunnel Control' shouts at you. There is an escape lane at 5:01

Hanging from the roof of the right hand lane there are chains then rubber pipes; stops you cutting corners as you go through!

Used to run this alot, always good fun :-)

  • My 1st ever experience of Blackwall was delivering electrical cable to a new multiplex cinema near exit on northbound side. I shouldn't have gone down it, ( a women gave me directions ) took about 1hour plus to get back due to serious traffic congestion, never forgot it.. I had several other drops that day, it put my whole day out...ha ha. Why the height diff I wonder? I could hear the chap on the Tannoy, heard white van!, then wondered what was going on as you do.. :-) Thanks for the info Ian.

  • Why the height diff?

The northbound tunnel is the old original one built in 1897 so everything was horse drawn. It was two way until 1967 when the southbound tunnel opened.

It's one of the few parts left of a never completed inner ring motorway. The tunnels and roads leading to them were the eastern side. There are other parts (A40 Westway, odd bits in south London etc) that were part of the plan.

My uncle worked on the original plans towards the end of the war (County Of London Plan 1943)

  • Thanks Ian, such an in-depth answer to my Q, I never knew any of this stuff, I certainly wont forget it now. You just educated a Midlander...!!! :-)))

  • Thats it Andy, you've got it. take that route and you'll be ok. You can't see it in my video because it was too dark, but quite literally as you emerge from the tunnel and look to your left you can see the O2 arena. You can see the brown info signs in this video showing you the way. Its only a stones throw away from the Blackwall tunnel. Thanks for watching Andy

, much appreciated. Take care. :-))

  • Reminds me of the time my brakes nearly failed on that sharp bend going northbound...It was fortunate that I was wearing brown trousers at the time! 5*

  • Sounds a tricky situation... ha ha. Hope all turned out well for you?

  • Thanks for the ride, Do they charge A toll to go thru the tunnel. 5*

  • Thats ok Walter, pleasure to have you with me, no this tunnel is totally free... :-)

  • Thanks Boris. ;-)

  • Hallo Paul, the blackwell tunnel is a ONE-WAY???

    That I haven´t know.

greetings from Germany with 5 icy stars

  • Thanks Bernhard, no it is 2 tunnels, southbound and northbound, 1 way in each tunnel and no toll fee. At the start of this video you will see the second tunnel on the right hand side... Thanks for the icy stars. :-)

  • i love hollywood car chases in tunnels!!

  • And me.... haha

  • I'm hearing voices in my head - lol - mind control is here!

  • I thought I was at the time, I wondered what was going on... ha ha. Because I only ever go through this tunnel once every so often, I have never experienced this before, so it was all new to me... :-)

  • It sounds as has the clutch from the cooler fans jammed on your Sprinter . To recognize on the vacuum cleaner sound (0:10 to 0:15 sec) during acceleration. To Control it, shut the engine off and try to turn the fan. Does the fan not spinning, is the clutch broken. Can your spinning the fan with resistance is it OK. If not, it takes power from the engine (roundabout 2-4kw) and increases fuel consumption. There is no problem driving with it.

    Greetings from Germany

  • Thanks for all the info. Yes I can turn the fan with slight resistance when the engine is switched off. I have had a problem twice now where engine lacks power on acceleration. I suspected the turbo, but if I switch off the engine, then restart it everything is ok again...?? Any idea..??

    Thanks for watching. :-))

  • Great video Paul..

Would love to see more from London because I never ben there..

    THX for the ride..Andy

  • Thanks for being my passenger Andy, I seem to visit London more in the dark than the light... ha ha. It's a fantastic city if your a tourist, but not so good if your driving a truck, you need eyes everywhere... ha ha. I will send you a link to a better video than this. Thanks Andy. :-)

  • Glad to say that I watched it right through this time! Used to live in Kent, so happy memories . . .

    Alan

  • Thanks Alan... :-)

  • You car breaks down there ... I can not imagine, I suppose these engineers has passed Mmmmmm

    Thanks for the ride always.

Things have improved in the UK?

  • If your car breaks down you choke on the fumes... ha ha

Wind the window up quick...!!!! :-))

Yes the weather is very slowly improving in the UK...

  • Hi Paul

Been watching your latest, but it freezes at 4.56. Tried it several times but same each time and same place. Would another upload sort it?

    Alan

  • I know what you mean because I had a previous video do that for some reason, but I have just watched this myself all the way through with no problem. Its still being processed by YT at the moment, so maybe its just one of those things...

Thanks Alan. I'll keep my eye on it. :-)

  • I'll give it another go and let you know what happens.

    Alan
