many people sill don't get that is a ELECTRIC-hybrid car, and not just a gasoline-hybrid car. There is no copying there... no one has an electric-hybrid mass produced car on the market.... please read before posting bull... this is NEW tech...
mas produced? What are you talking about. Do you know how much this car will cost? Nobodies going to buy it. GM says that it is going to release this car in 2 yrs but only 10 000 of them. Also some experts say that we will most likely not see this car on the roads for a very long time if we will see it at all. GM might be coocking all this up and come up with a reason for not releasing it.
1st, please cite me those "experts"... they are speculating just like you are. 2nd, 10 000 cars for starters is not enough ?!?! Also what world do you live in ?... I know people who are even willing now (with this economy) to pay in advance. People who have money will buy it to relieve their conscience... probably that is the market GM will be targeting first. It is NEW tech, how can you even expect it to be 20 000 $ ? The price has to reflect the money poured into engineering, research etc
There's the Chevy Volt, Cadillac Provoq, and Saturn Flextreme that all run on the GM E-Flex platform. The Volt and other EREVs could be a game changer. They could spark the switch from gasoline powered cars to electrically powered cars.
Public acceptance of the electrification of the automobile will start with the Volt. They tried before with the EV1, but people rejected it. Too many drawbacks. Not so with the Volt. It's gives drivers the flexibility and freedom they desire.
$40,000 is an estimate given by executives that know nothing. It's also more than a year away from production, so it's way too soon for pricing the car.
If it is $40,000, you will at least get a tax credit for $7,500, which can bring the price of the car down to a more reasonable $32,500.
My purchase price is $27,000. If they can't bring it down to that, I won't be able to afford it.
WOW $44k for this car. If someone can afford an $44 Car, they wouldnt even care the price of Gas.
The only people that are looking for Gas Saving is people thats looking for an Car that cost less than $20k and thats why theres so so many civic and corola on the road.
GM Need to hire REAL Engineers from Japan to do MIT work.
I doubt it will be 44K. 32K tops (if GM is smart), and Lutz said they are working on a 7500 dollar tax rebate- putting it a few thousand bucks above the Prius
Love how in America concepts end up looking nothing like the final product, especially with Chrysler.
Even though I don't "hate" the big three and would much rather have them around, the fact is that they just don't posses the ability to learn from there past mistakes. Chrysler has been bailed out a few times already and the other two are know for losing/wasting money, so giving them our tax dollars wont do jack shit if they don't learn and you can't support your country with foreign labor...
GM has already tried to make an electric car before, it was garbage on arrival and naturally propaganda about the oil companies out the get them popped up as an excuse for the obviously poorly made vehicle.
They've finally done something right in terms of the quality, but ones again America comes in way to late for it to make any sort of difference, always seeming to be when there in trouble and need money to survive and waste on inefficient cars that maybe 1% of America can actually afford.
GM made an electric car before and they destroyed them becuz they were too good better than honda's and toyota's evs. YAH im talkin about the EV1. And if u think thats garbage then i guess every good car out there today is garbage to u.
sexyboi142 is a good example of the typical person the Big Three hope to sell there cars to, unintelligent and uneducated, someone who spouts nonsense and has nothing back up there big claims.
If this guy had taken the time to research the EV1 he would of seen there where many problems with this car regarding its poor leak pron battery and overall poor build up. GM had the right idea, but like always they tried to half ass it to make more profit and ultimately failed measurably. Hard truth.
Just so u know i have a GM car no im not pleased with, yes it sux ass. i also have 2 hondas and plan on gettin another 1 in 6 monthes. yes i kno about the EV1's reacalls. im not stupid like u. I think GM did make a huge mistake with sum components of the EV1 but still it was great.
Like I said, they have the right idea but only until recently there quality has been very bad. Just yesterday at work one of the guy was going to install a new deck for this guys Impala, since he knew the guy and all. Long story short installing it messed up the cars security system and wouldn't let you start the car up.
There are no savings with the Volt. The price is estimated at $40K to $48K. Automobile critics have dubbed it "Grandma's electric vehicle." The production Volt is hideous and bland. Nissan has already developed an electric car that gets TWICE the mileage as the Volt.
What happened to this country? Do you even live here anymore or are you so excited to buy foreign cars that you moved out? You do realize that these cars are developed and made in the US. Do you have no respect for American ingenuity anymore? Remember we typically invent the best technology. Give GM credit for trying to make a difference and let's hope it works out. Toyota has been heavily subsidized so yes, we should bail out the US auto industry for many reasons.
"Support for your country", how much support was the big three showing back in the 70's and 80's when they were building junk and trying to force us to buy them. They are infected with a cancer(aka UAW). Until they can cure this cancer, they will never build cars that people want to buy or at a price they are willing to pay.
Toyota might of recieved tax subsidies for their Toyota Prius but I never remembered Toyota asking for a 25 billion dollar bailout, American cars definitely do not match foreign cars. American cars are too unreliable for the average consumer.
Tesla...what a joke. I bet that company fails before GM. They have been talking about their cars(s) for longer then GM has about their Volt and guess what...their car is no where to be seen. The sedan they have been talking about has been put on indefinite hold. I think if GM can survive long enough and can market this car right they will have a success on their hands.
BTW - The Prius did not take only 18 months and the Japenes govt. subsidized the battery technology.
WOW show some support for your country.. What a sad country we live in.. Toyota gets lucky with one hybrid at the right time and everyone thinks they're the greatest car company. Sorry but American cars are actually equal to Japanese cars in quality and performance. Stop being such immature bias minded people following the latest "hate the U.S." trend.
Where is it? Oh thats right.. They still dont have a product out that consumers can buy.. Oh and whats that? It takes more than 8 hours to charge? And it cant recharge while driving? And it costs how much!? No thanks..
It's still more than a year away from production, but it has moved from the concept stage to the production stage. There are dozens on the roads with production intent parts under Chevy Cruze bodies. Charging is less than 3 hours on 240VAC. But if you forget to plug it in, it's not like a normal EV where it's immobile and useless because the battery is drained. It has a built in gas generator that can charge the car while driving, so your range is equivalent to that of a normal gas car. :)
this car should be heavily scrutinized and critiqued before it gets the hail its been given thus far. and im sure that toyota and honda aren't going to let some broke american company win one over them - something better will come out and the volt will be obsolete. then again this is my opinion...
GM should rightly be severely criticized for this vehicle. It's too expensive and has taken WAY too long to develop. BMW got the electric mini out the door in 10 months. Toyota did the Prius in 18 months.
I had a model car like that (electric) in 1970s from Tamiya!
Combustion/electric propulsion isn't new; GM even make locomotives with the same drive concepts (at least they did).
If it has taken too long to develop, then why hasnt Toyota come out with their own? Why has Toyota resisted developing a full EV? Oh.. Its probably because they wouldnt have recieved subsidies from their government to produce one.. They'll probably just wait and copy like most Japanese manufacturers do..
copy? u don't make any sense Toyota owns Hybrid patent technology. thats why GM is where it is now because they are way o late to catch up and they want the poor tax payer to pay for their fuckups
pfff hahaha we are talking about cars. where did that come from o well you show you have no capacity to answer but to insult, I have nothing to say to you, your brain cant handle normal conversation your brain is way too small. so get lost you dont matter
It's going to be interesting to see of this car is going to be more of a fad or a success. I think that the technology is still a little too new to be put into mass production.

Yes they "copied" the civic front end and Prius back end
and called it a Volt
see GM is 12 years behind the hybrid arena and so they're just copying the japanese

Up against the wall they will continue to try and over price and gouge the customers
Bring in TATA motors and some Chinese companies
GM needs to be put down they owe too much money to be able to ever produce low cost cars
and as the economy tanks further the American people will realize what I am saying is right
and them dreaming about 40 thousand cars saving GM is crazy talk the Economy is about to fall off a cliff
they should be bringing out 10,000 dollar cars
Tata will do it if they can not
