I'm not setting you up for anything. I speak standard Italian taught in colleges in the US as a 3rd language (I'm third generation Italian). I have not visited Italy as an adult, so I don't really know how extensive the language differences are. I know that people from Naples, Calabria and Sicily still hold onto their dialects, but I don't know details and assumed Italian and dialects are two different things.
