A big thanks again to Bill ( Ferguson) from us lot across the pond for digitising all these videos for us to see , You guys had it all over the years on TV and radio then all these conventions we could only buy the records over here , now we can really see what we have missed all these years. Thanks to everyone who uploads steel guitar and U.S. country music to you tube.
No doubt about it, John was one great steel guitarist. His phrasing and touch were pure velvet. I am a steel player myself, and I know a nice touch when I hear it. It is so sad to lose such a talented player. I don't know what kind of set-up he had in the way of effects, but it all comes down to the one doing the picking. Rest in peace, my friend.
Met John Hughey. dad and I were friends with Lou Reid and Martin Parker (who were playing with Vince at the time) and John was so gracious just to stand there and talk with us after the show at Plant City. great player. we miss you buddy!
No doubt about it , one of the finest I've heard. I had a gentleman by the name of Rusty Walker play in my group for about 10 yrs . RIP Rusty, He used to play with George Hamilton for a long while . John Hughey and Rusty sound so much alike .
John Hughey was one of the greatest to ever play the pedal steel, there's no denying that. Ralph Mooney is my all-time favorite, but John and Tom Brumley run a close second.....
There are and have been many top steel players over the years, but for my money, few come close to the great JH for taste and smoothness.Just l;isten to the steel break in Vince Gill's 'Look at us'.
We'll miss you. Our hats off to the fine gentleman steel player who will be sorely missed. One of the only steel guitar players who could bring tears to my eyes. Today we shed them for you. So glad I got to see you and tell you thanks again this year at Scotty's ISGC. Our condolences the John's family from Maryland.
Yes this is a sad, sad day, 11/18/07. John Hughey has gone to be with our Lord. I will surely miss him and all the great times we had picking together.
John Hughey as his wonderful best. Do yourself a favor and buy his tracks of some of his great songs he has recorded. I use them all the time. You'll be a better player. Greetings to you John. Louis Armentaro, Livingston, Montana
