Egypt and Jordan controlled these territories prior to 1967 but they were not recognized sovereigns of the territories so it was hardly illegal for Israel to seize these territories in self defense.

Providing things like healthcare, electricity and thousands of tons of humanitarian of aid every week would be rather counterproductive to a genocide, just as it would be counterproductive to warn civilians to leave the area by for example dropping leaflets (even though this may also alert terrorists) before they attack a target.

@Erik20091113 Israel is not legally required to repatriate Palestinian refugees and especially not descendants of refugees. And there would barely be any refugees in the first place if the Arabs had taken responsibility for their actions. Large numbers of arabs left Israel in 1948, not because they were driven out but because Arab leaders encouraged to do so to make way for the invading Arab armies.

@Erik20091113 Resolution 194 is a general assembly resolution, it is non binding. Even if it were binding it would still be open to interpretation, the text clearly states that refugees SHOULD be allowed to return not that they must be allowed to do so.

@Erik20091113 There massacres on both side in the war and that is regrettable but war is not a pleasant thing and civilians will be affected in every war, the most you can do is try to minimize the damage to the civilian population. There was however no systematic attempt to remove every Arab from the region. Gaza and the West bank has been under Israeli control for 45 years.

@Erik20091113 What illegal settlements? Gaza and Judea and Samaria (the west bank) were seized in a defensive war and their former owners had seized these territories in an offensive war. Egypt and Jordan controlled these territories prior to 1967 but they were not recognized sovereigns of the territories so it was hardly illegal for Israel to seize these territories in self defense.

And Israel when Israel withdrew from Gaza in 2005 they didn't just remove military forces, they removed their settlements in the Gaza strip too, but this did not bring peace it brought more rockets. Every concenssion Israel makes will be viewed not as a gesture of peace but as a sign of weakness to be exploited.

Before them the British ruled the region and before that it was part of the Turkish Ottoman empire for centuries. A contry called Palestine never existed and why should it? Palestine is simply a region like for example Scandinavia, Palestine is a geographical term and nothing more.
