  • very cool

  • love this song man, thank you !!!

  • Thank you too for watching!

  • Walter,Butterfield and Wilson are my favorite harp players of all time. All of them had the best tone ever and the latter two got their's from the first

I've been playing for over 30 years and actually had the pleasure of sitting in with Elvin Bishop at the Lighthouse in Hermosa once.Sat in with both Winters and ZZ Top when their beards were short

Anyway,if you really want to hear some unbleievable Chicago based harp playing, pick up Hooker and Heat.I know you'll dig it,if you haven't already

  • Hi heavynumbertaco,

You played with Elvin Bishop,Winters and ZZ Top??Great!!

I know John Lee Hooker of course and Canned Heat a little bit but i didn't know they played together.

I search Hooker & Heat on YouTube ans it sounds good!!

    Thanks for youre comment!

    Regards,

    Alan

  • Could I get an MP3 of this? It is excellent.

    jeff

  • Thank you very much Jeff!

I try to send you the mp3!

  • Incredible !

  • AMAZING! What key is ur harp in? mine is in A?

  • Thanks Bejanitheiraqi, the harp i play is a Lee Oskar harp in the key of C.

  • Thats pretty good man, have you heard the Little Walter version of this, it's the best, I play it. The first note you start with is played as an double otave on the little walter version so it sounds really fat like a horn section try it out, you play the 3rd & 7th hole while blocking 4 5&6 with your tongue. Once you get a handle on the chords your playing will take off like you wouldn't believe.

  • The Little Walter version is great!

I'm aware of that i play not enough octaves.

I can play them but it isn't still an natural /automatic thing.

But i'm practise the octave's and other tongue blocking things more and more and each time it feels beter and beter.

Thank you for youre comment and youre support.

  • Great technique dude . . . you should definitely get in a band!

  • Excellent hobby ! Ya, you got it !......PeaceLoveBlues...Spread the news !

  • Thank you Juliasblues!

  • Hey ABouter! Great playin' man. You should be workin' with a band. It's a whole lot more fun, than playin' alone! I've sent you a Video response of a tune that I wrote about the harp. I think you might like it!

    D.J.Bingham

  • If someday i find me a band here in town that is really play and love the blues,i will join,if they want it too of corse! I'm no singer so it's a little bit more difficult to join a bluesband.

Thanks for your videoresponse and your nice comment,it's a great song,i like it!

  • Instead of making negative comments about this guy who's playing great, grab a harp, video yourself and let your balls flap in the breeze.

  • Yes really... 3 blow is out of tune

  • Another guy mention it before but he thought hole 4 was broke...

I think the harp sounds good enough for playing it here on YouTube!

It's not the Chicago Blues Festival here...and you guys listening here for free....hahaha ;o)

    Thanks for youre comment.

  • jajaja... ok ok.

  • your harp is out of tune

  • excellent! im just learning cant wait until I can do this!!

  • Thank you!

    Good luck with the learning!

  • very nice man!!

  • your harmonica is out of tune...

  • true, harp become out of tune easily

  • Wish I had some of that talent...you picked a good one to play...still remember the impact butterfield had on me...I was a young boy then and he still turns me on. Don't stop.

  • I like the style of Paul Butterfield too!

I never stop playing..hehe i enjoy playing my harp very much!

    Thanks for youre nice comment.

  • Well done sir!

  • Thank you tbox203!

  • Man you are good. I came up in the days of Paul Butterfield. 5*****!

  • Thanks for the nice comment Broaart!

  • bravo sir

  • Thank you conarym9!

  • that was great man. I love blues, i'm already a classical pianist and i picked up my first harmonica today. Although i have a paper for school due tomorrow I've been playing away at my harmonica. I love the blues songs Zeppelin does and the way Jimmy Page plays the guitar. But anyway, i just thought i'd tell you thanks for posting this, it's totally my kind of music.

  • Thanks for youre nice comment Rueisl8423,

Piano? Years ago i try that too on a cheap keyboard,i wanted to play like Jerry Lee Lewis!hehe i give it up,i had no patience for it..

Good luck with the harmonica and of corse...school!

  • From your intro, I thought this was going to be rare Butterfield vintage of the song.

  • Biffpa52,why you thought that?

I practice this song from the cd "Original Lost Elektra Sessions"

I don,t know if this is the vintage year or the rare one..

  • sounds good.

    thanks

  • Thank you too!

  • That's awesome! What harmonica are you using?

  • Hi Marilouise100,

I used a Lee Oskar in the key of C.

  • Lots of work went into that, I can see. Great job.

  • Thank you Freepatriot.

  • no at 31 seconds the tounge blocking. sounds like the 4th blow reed is out.

  • At 31 sec. i played an octave and block hole 3 and 4 and then draw 2 and 5.

I compared the "old" C harp with a new one,and maybe not all the tones are 100% pure anymore...but i only change a harp when a tone is full broke or very bad.

    Thanks for youre comment.

  • oh yeah the 4 is way out, awesome stuff though!

  • Thanks men!

  • sounds like a note is blown, but good tounge blocking on the solo.

  • Thanks.

You mean on 0,50 min? That was just some spit or mess that blocked a reed plate..hehe

And i play it on a heavy used harp so lots of air slips away anyway!hehe

  • Nice blow man - I always dug the double Butterfield live album

  • Thank you sysmch.

  • Nice one Man!..........I likes it!!

    How long you been playing?

  • Thanks Sisumatom!

The first time i try to play harmonica is about 12 years ago..?

I was trying to play some nice melody,s.

After i heard bluesharp,i want to play that too.

But for years i played only single note,s and sometime some bendings.

The last 2 years i focus on practicing more technics.

I practice songs with some technics in it,i want to learn and of course that i like so it,s more fun to practice.

  • Nice bent.

  • HEINEKEN!!!!

  • Nice job! :)

  • Thank you!

  • very good! (I'am a french fan of Paul Butterfield)

  • Thank you MOAMARCELLE!

It seems Paul has fans all over the world!:o)

  • amazing! im inspired to get my C harmonica out again and have another go at learning =)

  • You must do that!

Youre very young,so enough time to learn!;0)

  • symphonic

    wonderful

  • very talented, well played

  • Hi Cheapsbanjo,i think you mean that sound from 30 to 33 sec?

That,s an octave, then i draw hole 2 and 5 and block 3 and 4 with my tongue.

Exact at 33 sec i draw hole 4 then bend it then bend hole 3.

By vibrate you midriff/stomach you get vibration in all kind of tone,s.

  • Hi,

I'm just a beginner. What's that effect that you do at 33 secs like a tremelo'd chord? sounds good!

  • A Lee Oskar (Diatonic straight) harp in C.

  • wht kinda harp r u playin

  • Wow!!Paul was youre mentor and friend? Great!

    I,m a bit jealous...!

But it,s a honour for me to get such a nice comment from somebody who have played with Paul Butterfield!

    Thank you!

  • You got a good feel for it really nice playin and Paul was my friend and mentor and of course a hero of mine.. I play harp myself and also a lot of guitar and I took Paul's arpeggio and turned into a guitar lick that always blows people mind when I use it, very tricky..

  • Thanks guys!

  • Nice playing...

  • Dude pretty good. Add some octaves just like he did, of course, he did it a lot with the riff. Check out my videos too thanks!
