Patriarch Bartholemew is NOT an orthodox pope, but the first among bishops, not above them. His only power is to call Ecumenical councils. But his Jurisdiction is Constantinople, Turkey, Greece and Mt. Athos. Other countries have their own Patriarchs.
He may not be the Pope of Rome, but that is a valiant, honorable patriarch. We must help to free our oppressed brothers, both Catholic and Orthodox, especially the Patriarch of Constantinople it seems.
His position deserves better than to have his true cathedral, the Hagia Sophia, desecrated first by the Moslems, then by the government; to have his flock disintegrated into nothing; to possibly die not having a successor. The see of Constantinople deserves better than this.
I am a Roman Catholic, and my heart goes out to the Orthodox Christians in Constantinople and the world. How sad it is that a city that was once the shining jewel of Christendom is reduced to an abused community. Even more sad is the fact that we Roman Catholics were not entirely innocent and blameless regarding the history of mistreatment of the Orthodox Christians. Now is the time, perhaps, to right wrongs and to atone for this great hurt inflicted upon our brothers in Christ.
God bless His all Holiness Patriarch Bartholomew I and the Holy Greek Orthodox Church. May God be with us and with christians suffering in Constantinople (Istanbul). AMEN.
The Gospel was not written in "Turkey" but Anatolia .. it was named Turkey after the Turks - who were nomads from the east, that converted to Islam as far as Mongolia. They invaded Byzantium (Anatolia) several times and were finally successful in 1453, after the Eastern Roman Empire was weak.
These advertisements really annoy me! I did want to watch this in one part, instead of two. But not doing that. Every time you pause or move the position of the video, you get a damned commercial!
