Oh my God what perfect harmonies on this song - love it - this should be re-released or re-interpreted, Why dont X factor use songs like this rather than the same old, same old.. Purple Rain etc??
This is a great song with great production..but the ending is different to my 7" single...on that the ending has Therresa doing an angelic like vocal which is overlaid over it'sself...lovley
Great record! One of my all-time favourites, along with Hand Held In Black & White, Love's Gotta Hold Of Me, Who Were You With In The Moonlight and Shooting Star. I will always love Dollar!
i was eight years old when this g8 song was released in 1982 this group was so big in my class at school they had some g8 songs out in 1980s good memories i have now bought dollars greatest hits trevor horn is a g8 producer.
This song is so good remember listening to it when i was little brings back happy memories. i went out and bought dollars greatest hit cd. Bring back eighties music lady ga ga and justin whats his names is so rubbish.
Thereze and David are truly fabulous. I love this song. Can't understand how they're not more popular today. I'm sure good promotion/marketing could put them back up there where they belong. Thanks for posting
s4t4ever we all love the good old days but it nice to think that we will have good days to look forward to and with a bit of luck we can look back on them too...
Isn't he flipping burgers now ? How the mighty have fallen. Not a fan but to sell the amount they sold I have to give them credit. Better than some of the tosh we have in the charts now. What uis it sell 10,000 to get a no 1 ?
Well, yes the comments about having to ship a shit -load of records to secure a high chart position in the early-mid 80's is true. I think Mirror Mirror (Mon Amour) sold around 640,000 copies, reaching No 4 in the process. Selling that amount these days would pretty much guarantee you a Top 3 place in the end of year best sellers. Lady Ga Ga has sold around this amount with Poker Face which looks set to be the 2nd biggest hit of the year - after the next X-Factor winner, of course (yawn!)
wow dis song reminds me of my chinita crush....who is a member of a dance group.. na sumayaw nang kanta na to sa pinas.....i wonder wer is she now... hehehe
Hi Dave, you were fab in the jungle - but glad you back in your home town Brighton UK - Watching your vids put a smile on my face and a cheer in my heart - You're a Star!
There WAS a mickey take of this in Lenny Henry's 1980s show Three of a Kind, although it featured the other two: Tracey Ullman and David Copperfield. It's on watch?v=5Amyn51xZ0U
Top group, every girl in my class was in love with him and was in love with her. DVD to win im a celeb get me out this jungle, mind u,i bet he prefers it in there than in his burger van :)
Those Arrrrr and La La La were done on Fairlight CMI. For a sampler which was the size of a toy chest and samples stored on 8.75" floppy's it still sounds stunning.
yep ! ere's how it is today ! 10.000 records and you will get to No 1 in the charts ! back in the late 70s and 80s you had to sell 200.000 singles and then you wasnt guaranteed a no1 spot..so shut the fuck up you z list celebs in the jungle..ps whats the name of the talentless young ! here today gone tomorrow twat who was in a boyband singing covers with elton john to gain some sorta celeb status ! remind me again......stay real david like you always was
yes although im a led zeppelin man in my opinion this along with land of make beleive (bucks fizz)and dont you love me (human league)is one of the best ever pop songs
I got this single, grew up with Dollar, and this song was part of the soundtrack to my youth. Yeah maybe its a little pompous and cheesy now when you look back on it - But times were different then and certainly more innocent, its all so serious now.
There is an awful, awful lot of crap in my life right now.
But I've just remembered this track again, and looked it up here. And for those sweet few moments this was on all the worries just vapourised, and I was back in '82.
Love and happiness to all who, like me, love this record.
Dollar enjoyed massive success between 1978 and 1982 in the UK with 5 top 10 hits, 3 of which peaked at no. 4 of which this was the last. They had a couple of other hits following this and disappeared for a few years. They re-emerged in Summer 1986 with 'We Walked In Love' although receiving massive airplay, failed to chart. Not giving up that easily, they re-emerged again at the end of 1987 with their version of Erasure's 'Oh L'Amour' which eventually peaked at no. 7 in early February 1988.
What people need to understand about Dollar back in the early '80s, is that they REALLY did sell a lot of singles. When this song was in the Top 3 in April 1982, the 12" Single was very popular. This was only on 7" single yet made it high in the charts. Dollar's productions with Trevor Horn acted as a springboard for 80s pop. Without Dollat there would have been no ABC, Frankie Goes To Hollywood, etc. Dollar deserve respect for the cool clean productons Trevor gave them.
I have the Robin Wright version and this 1 from dollar>>>>both on 12 inch versions...It's on my ipod and still loving it!!!Rollin back memries...99.5 RT!
I knew this under the recording artist Robin Wright which was a bit less flowery, more directly sung (one male voice through the whole melody), slightly slower but with a more consistent rhythm, about 136 bpm - in that odd but much-loved genre we called hi-energy sleaze - fast tempo but with a laid back mood. Anybody have that version? I only knew Dollar for "We Walked in Love", which was slower but no less fabulous.
Fantastic song. Dollar were so under-rated - especially when they worked with Trevor Horn. This, Mirror Mirror, Hand Held In Black and White and Videotheque were wonderfully lush produced pop songs. Trevor Horn is a GOD!!!
I was never a huge fan of Dollar though i liked the songs,i just always saw them both as a bit mushy.I was a child when they were out.You couldn't really get away from hearing them. They were always on radio and Top of the Pops.Looking back at their songs, this one especially is quite sweet and i like it.Has anyone seen the Tracey ullman take off?
