Funny but stupid, if people want to play competitively, then why stop them? The aren't ruining the game because they're playing a game the way they enjoy it probably more then you guys do.
@MarioLinkGenofan Actually, they're not. They're what TVTropes call "Stop Having Fun Guys" where it's all about winning, not having fun, and achieving it at all costs.
@MarioLinkGenofan TVTropes only gave me the right words to describe such players. As I've already stated before, I've talked to and fought against people like these. :P
Maybe you shouldn't assume things about people you don't know
@kaihedgie That's stereotyping bro. While some players are going to be elitist and whiners, more then a few are mellow, nice, and while they play for money, are people who play the game and enjoy it. Just in a different way. I myself prefer these competitive rules and while I don't play on their level, I understand they enjoy the game as well. What you say is a minority and most of that minority are elitist who probibly aren't even pro smashers. (I've been there) See more "real" pro gamers.
@MarioLinkGenofan You seem to be unaware that I had been specifically talking about the Smash Bros crowd and not those who play proper fighting games. You're the one stereotyping
@kaihedgie ...what? The smash crowd enjoys the game just as much as any other group who plays a fighter. Granted, perhaps that wasn't Sakurai's intention to make it like that, but if people enjoy to play a game then why stop them? Very, very few are this group of elitists you make them out to be, look up "Hugs interview" it's an old interview with a hardcore smash and he seems perfectly fine. Besides if it weren't for hardcore smashers we wouldn't have charms like WOMBO-COMBO and such.
@MarioLinkGenofan No, the Smash crowd is quite different and I don't think you understand just how different. The "competitive" crowd of the Smash Bros fanbase seeks to take away everything that's fun about the Smash Bros series and tries to turn it into a spamfest where all you do is pick the fastest character and glitchspam to your heart's content and then claim it's all "part of the game"
If you don't agree that abusing the games worst glitches and refusing to use anyone that isn't top tier is the best way and ONLY way to play the game, or if you like to use items or stages other than Final Destination.... then you are considered lowlife, braindead, little child
And they're very aggressive in their enforcing of their ways at that
@AutumnCrusader I've seen it. I agree with abusing glitches TBH, never seen a problem with it. Seeing guys complain about use of glitches such as edgehogging and chaingrabs is far worse (and far more hilarious) then using them. Plus items bring forth and uneven game, giving one player an advantage through luck, so they bann them, good riddance. As for stages, you do know they have like 15 legit stages to play on, with FD rarely used, in fact, mentioning FD shows you never met a pro smasher >_>.
@MarioLinkGenofan Edgehogging? Thats not a glitch, it's just that only one person can grab an edge menas grabbing an edge first prevents recovery
I mean Wavedashing with pretty much multiplies your speed by 10 due to abusing the hell out of the air dodge physics, totally breaking all balance
And how do items give an advantage to one player? The items are availible to all players last I checked, not just one and using them/countering them effeciently takes skill and practice
@AutumnCrusader Well, I've heard people whine of edgehogging before (for some reason) so yeah.
Wavedashing doesn't break balance, the game was already unbalanced, what it did was make new balance. Characters like Mewtwo stood a chance and while better characters like Fox and Marth also benefited, it greatly changed the metagame. Items can appear closer to some more then others, are skilless, RNG luck factor, so much is wrong with items. I never play with them they're so bad.
@AutumnCrusader Fun is relative, what you find enjoyable I find incredibly annoying, As do competitive smashers, how they don't shove it down your throat, they acknowledge that other people play in casual forms while they play to official competitive rules. Also, Mewtwo while not used much benefited much from wavedashing, having the 2nd longest. Plus Roy is low tier while Marth is high, so that entire argument wasn't accurate. I love Kamina, but that is word of sakurai, who is far from man.
@MarioLinkGenofan Whats Roy got to do with anything? All I mentioned was Mewtwo being bottom of the tier and Fox and Marth being top tier
They DO shove it down your throat, viciously so, have you never spoken to a competitive Smasher? I have, many, and it has left an INCREDIBLY bitter taste in my mouth
Competetive Smash is a silly concept anyway, it's a game designed around chaotic nonsense, try to make it a strict and consistant environment can only be done by ripping the game into peices
@AutumnCrusader You say Rox, I interpreted as Roy, not Fox, since I care far more for Fire Emblem then StarFox. Also, I have met some high level players and honestly, they seemed really cool, they complimented my Ness (low tier) and enjoyed the matches. What you met was a group of elitists who think they are pro, I could tell this before because they play on Final Destination. Also if Competitive Smash is enjoyed by some players, why stop that? Outside of a vocal minority they're mature about it
@AutumnCrusader *sigh* Alright? Have you ever met a big name player or have you just met an elitist, because the way you described this pro, he sounds like the latter. Until you prove otherwise your whole argument isn't, well, an argument.
@AutumnCrusader ;But those MANY players play on Final Destination and hate other rules. Far from what I've seen. FD isn't nearly as popular as Yoshi's Island on "pro" matches and they often don't play other people who play different rule sets in the first place (due to multiple reasons). Your whole argument sounds like what people think pros are and not what they really are. As such you constantly sound as if your grasping straws and you sound very immature.
@AutumnCrusader I play Fire Emblem and our fanbase has a fun little motto. Personal Experience Means Nothing. Just saying :P. You sound like your grasping at straws because you keep repeating the same things over and over again. You mentioned how we should play with items despite the fact others enjoy the game without them, which is why you said you hate tourney since they don't let you play the way you want making you sound like a raging, childish hypocrite.
And I can't find any instances of myself repeating myself beyond defending and adding onto earlier points in my arguement when you attempted to counter them
And I said no such thing, in fact my entire side of the arguement is about how one SHOULDN'T force your opinion onto others, as all 'pro' players I have encountered have done to me, I never once said that people should play it by my own perceptions
@AutumnCrusader The point of the motto is that a majority of opinions and the average is far better for data then what one person says. You repeat yourself a lot BTW, never arguing that you may only be playing elitists and often just mentioning what buzzkills pros are. "Competitive smash is a silly concept it's a game designed around chaotic nonsense" you said that word for word and the rest of what you said in that comment drove yourself into a deeper hole. Your forcing your opinion.
@MarioLinkGenofan I stated several times that these indeed where only the people I had met, yes
But I've met a lot of them
I never said I judged the ENTIRE community by them, you're reading non-existant subtext
Looking through my posts, I was correct in my last comment, I've yet to repeat myself without adding to or defending earlier points that you attempted to counter, which is, of course, how an arguement works
And that was me voicing my opinion, not telling others to obey my perceptions
@MarioLinkGenofan Too bad a majority isn't always right and usually agrees on really stupid stuff (i.e.; anti-MVC)
You're the one forcing the opinion here, assuming that anyone who doesn't play "competitively" or resorts to using items is a scrub because apparently, not using items takes "real skill" when all it is is an excuse for those who don't know how to handle items, whether or not they're on the receiving end
@kaihedgie ...What? The Majority is always right. Since you know, majority rule? Whether or not you are in that group however is completely different from whether they're right or wrong. I'm not forcing my opinion at all, I'm stating to respect others way of playing and mentioning that everyone enjoys to play a game in a different way and hating on others for how they play a game is immature, if they enjoy playing a game without items and have more "competitive balance" let them. Not hurting you
@MarioLinkGenofan Um, no they aren't. The majority tends to not think with their heads or display any bouts of genuine intelligence or are just usually herded like sheep to follow the opinions of someone popular, no matter how asinine or retarded it is. Not a whole lot of people on this planet are smart anyway. I'd use religion as an example, but that'd be going back on what I was talking about a couple of years ago, so I'll just use the next best thing: MVC2 and FPS games.
@kaihedgie (Oh you gotta be kidding me, I thought I was dumb with this stupid argument with you. Honestly it's a waste of time >_>) I also love how you made a whole comment on majority rule when that was only a small part of my argument. >_>. If an opinion is more structured, makes more sense, and more people support it, it's wrong because "majority rule is stupid". Regardless, a majority don't really care for how you play smash and a vocal minority do. Prove that pro smashers do hate casuals.
@MarioLinkGenofan Except it wasn't a "small part", it was the very thing your argument hinged on: If a lot of people think this way then it MUST be true.
@kaihedgie 1 Sentence of a comment=A majority of my comment. A majority doesn't ***** like you say. Your merely talking about the vocal minority. Regardless, I repeated it once and I'll repeat it again, from your experience which you described you are playing elitists, people who think they're official, but really aren't. These people exist, But regardless they aren't really pros, pros rely on counter stages not final destination, they don't even play people with items, your argument is crap.
During one of shiz's falco shine-combos, he accelerates his APM to about 500. That means he is pressing approximately 8 buttons per second to get his follow-ups. How can a game that is so technically challenging not be taken seriously?
@soccermaster25 A lot you say? Gee, that's kinda hard to believe considerin' all the tourney matches I've seen usin' FD because it's a completely neutral and static stage with no 'gimmicks' or interruptions where luck is prominent
If you go to the youtube channel "juggleguy", he has about 200 vids from a tournament that happened 6 days ago. This tournament had an even stricter ruleset than any tournament before it, and it still has only maybe one in 5 matches on fd
Some people don't like them, and some people do. They are really fun to go to. You have obviously never even been to a smash tourney. This video is just a very bad and incorrect stereotype. Just trying to correct some wrong beliefs.
Most tourney players that challenge other people are probably big douches who want everyone to know that they play in tourneys and that they are so good.
A lot of the people are really humble and great people. If you call wavedashing a glitch, it would be like calling the ability to double jump in the air in halo a glitch. Both players can use it and its not game breaking in any sense. Some pros don't even use it.
@soccermaster25 It is gamebreaking. Is capturing your opponent in an infinite loop of grabs not considered gamebreaking? Is jittering around in such a manner that makes you intangible not considered gamebreaking? Is obtaining abnormally low recovery time not considered gamebreaking? And yet items are considered an abomination. I don't care if even babies can use them, it's still wrong. It doesn't really take any skill to use 'em in the first place
Like chain grabbing? or wobbling? CGs usually only last for around 40% or less, and wobbling isn't gamebreaking because its easy to not get grabbed. Seriously, not getting grabbed is not hard, and cgs are excapable.
There are no "jittering" things that make you untouchable. Unless you are talking about dash dancing? And its just a setup which can be camped or approached like anything else.
@soccermaster25 /: Still no reasonable justification here. It sounds to me that all that matters is winning, no matter how victory is achieved. That people would go far to ditch actual fighting in favor of glitch fests for the sake of winning only. Forget about fair play all that.
L cancelling isn't a "glitch." neither are chain grabs or wavedashes. They are all part of the games physics engine and do not slow or make the game crash.
If wavedashing was broken, luigi would be top tier. fox, jiggs, falco, falcon and peach all have tiny wavedashes, but are still top characters.
You just show you have never played the game at a high level. It becomes a fast paced chess match, trying to outsmart and react to your opponent.
@soccermaster25 That. Still. Doesn't. Make. Sense. Why? Why? Tell me? Explain to me. It's a-okay to do all of that glitching (wave-dashing, chain-grabbing) just because it's 'part of the game physics' and yet items are banned despite being a natural and integral part of the game even though like glitches, they can be used by anyone. Where the hell is the logic in that? Tell me.
And it's not "logic." It's just opinion. All chaingrabs are escapable. Wobbling is really hard to set up, and it isn't even banned at most tournaments. If someone picks ICs, just pick peach, fox or falcon.. That's what makes the game so fun, the strategies and the coutnerpicking of stages and characters. I play sheik, and for my CP, I almost always head to brinstar. It is far from a neutral stage, but I still pick it.
And these things just don't break the game. If you knew the scene youd get it.
Idk about that. Melee is fun. I really can't say anything about brawl, except that DDD's cg only works as long as a flat surface is in front of you. You run out of room pretty quick.
Same old story, different author. A glitch is a 'programming oversight'. That means an abnormality in the programming that was not intended at all, not an intentional part of the game, no matter how much you try to twist it around so it sounds right. It doesn't work that way
It sounds like you had a bad experience with this tourney player, and I'm sorry you feel this way about the rules.
Quite simply, some people like items, some people don't. Those who don't are in a huge majority in the tournament scene, so we play no items. If half the smash community started wanting to play with items, then tournaments with items would start happening. But not enough people do.. therefore, no items in tournaments.
And designers intentions shouldn't affect how the game is plated.
Abnoramally low recovery time? L-cancelling just cuts lag in half, and its really ease to learn. You can still win if you don't use it, its just harder.
And items are not an abomination. I play with items sometimes, but they're just not used in tournament.
A mechanism like L cancelling is most certainly not a programming oversight; this is something that must have its own sub-procedure in order to function.
Refer to /watch?v=7EFx0-Zkn54 for a simple answer as to why items must be banned for the sake of fair play.
The fox was playing intelligently, sir, his only fault was that he was not omniscient. Is it to be expected that the only container that does not break near sheik is the one which has a star in it? What if the capsule he kicked had the star instead? Do you not understand why this sort of random factor must be controlled? That is why ATs are not banned; they are purely in the hands of the player.
@L3ftStrick3n For all of his speedy and expertise, he could have, y'know, dodged it. He also has a Reflector available, so that's really really no excuse to ban items simply on one instance and just raegquit just because of one life lost.
He was clearly intending to powershield the capsule and grab the drop out of the air.
And the fact that this situation can occur even once more is reason enough to keep items off. The items provided an insurmountable advantage for the sheik.
Imagine, now, if this were a 10,000$ finals match. Would it be fair to the fox if all these odds just happened to randomly stack against him? Without items, we effectively eliminate every intentional random factor in Melee.
@L3ftStrick3n Excuses, sir, excuses. The money card does not help your argument, if not make it worse. It only furthers my point that you will do anything and everything to win simply because there's money on the line. That you would abandon all actual principals of fair play for the sake of winning and winning only. Luck cannot be eliminated. You can turn off items or even hazards, but they will always be a luck factor influencing your victory or loss in some shape or form.
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
I play this proverbial "money" card to emphasize how crucial it is to eliminate these factors in a tournament setting. It just isn't fair to the player.
Why wouldn't you do anything in your power and in the realms of the given ruleset to win upwards ten thousand dollars? And what is this luck factor that you seem to think is influencing victory in the absence of items?
And what **principles** (I assume you aren't referring to the executive position) of fair play are being compromised?
@L3ftStrick3n Abandoning whatever skills you possessed and gained from hours to weeks to months to years of practicing and training in favor of using glitches only. What's the point if you're not even playing for fun anymore? Luck plays a factor in gaming in general, fighting games are especially no exception either. You can still be close to victory and still lose it all.
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
If we didn't find our competitive ruleset fun, wouldn't we have moved on to a bigger gaming scene for more money? I mean, winning is ALL that matters, right? Why not win even more?
What you need to keep in mind is that we all started out playing with items and without ATs. We happen to find our way, no items and ATs, to be exponentially more fun now.
I don't like calling people names, but your ideology suggests that you are something of a bigot. In debates, do try to keep an open mind.
@L3ftStrick3n As I've said before, I've tried it your way and I didn't like it, so you cannot call me out if you believe I know nothing. I've experienced this all beforehand. I've watched the video and I was not amused one bit. It is just not Smash Bros. to me with so many things stripped away for the sake of winning. And people don't 'find their way'.
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
But see here, in your last comment you wondered why someone would want to watch/play a competitive match and labeled it boring. You must understand that no one in the competitive scene shares this view; Smash Melee is probably the most enjoyable game I've ever played in my life.
These competitive videos and tournaments aren't for people like you, they're for us. You have as much of a say in our community as an atheist would in church.
Don't try to bring religion into this. If Melee is the most entertaining game you ever played, you probably don't play a lot of entertaining games then. The reason behind this entire dichotomy, this conflict is because solely because of the Smash series because it was obviously never meant for the competitive circuit, thus, when you started changing and banning things, you naturally upset a lot of people, some of those people wanting to escape the troubles seen in traditional fighters
No. As I've said before, I've already tried seeing things your way once before and it did not work for me at all, nor do I appreciate you calling me a bigot just because. Why is it hard for me to understand? Because even though it's an opinion to be respected, it is certainly not one that can be agreed with.
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
I don't believe you understand the difference between seeing and agreeing with an opinion. If I am wrong, then you just contradicted yourself in your last post.
@L3ftStrick3n I'm just not going to bother anymore. The fact that you went and tried to use religion as an example has me facepalm. I told you time and time again I have tried things your way, but none of that seems to be processing.
I'm going to use religion one more time to show you why I called you a bigot. An atheist need not try Christianity to understand it. Surely, he can see why a people would want to believe in a religion. It may not coincide with his opinions, but he understands it all the same.
It doesn't matter if that atheist becomes a Christian in the same way that it doesn't matter if you become a tournament player. All you need to do is understand that this game is a blast for us when played our way.
@gfdriver Oh don't get me wrong, I like Melee. I still have it to this day, but the Gamecube has quite a good deal of other good fighters and whatnot as well
Having been playin' the entire series since day one when it hit shelves overseas, I could not find the fun in stripping the game of what made it so entertaining and fun in the first place and tried to mangle it into a facsimile of an actual fighting game, especially when the 'unfair items' get replaced by mass glitchspams by spasming all over the arena and gaining abnormal speed boost and whatnot. I have yet to call you out and I have tried things your way.
Smash Bros. is definitely no exception when traditional/proper fighters certainly do exhibit cases of these. It's just really stupid overall. I mean, who really wants to watch a match with money on the line if neither player is going to play fair and if all the stuff that made the game so entertaining and unique stripped away? What's the point?
Both players are playing fairly, under the rules that the tournament has dictated. Although you may be a casual player, I'm shocked that you find your ways to be more entertaining to watch. The common casual opinion is that while tournament games are "full of cheats", they are still more exciting.
/watch?v=ApPTjApGduw
Was that really not entertaining in the least bit for you?
@L3ftStrick3n Luck will either make you or the enemy slip up. Luck will either send you or your adversary past the Blast Line by a single inch. It matters not, luck can, does, and will affect the outcome of every match.
That's not luck you're thinking of, but rather player skill. If a player makes a mistake, then he lacked the skill to proceed accordingly. By keeping his surroundings static, we can effectively say that it is the player's fault for losing if he made a mistake.
Read Sirlin's article on street fighter. What you describe as luck is what he calls a "scrub's excuse".
sir, i would like to say that you are a great man. every women i know hates me and the love of my life hates me the most and is prolly sucking my best friends dick. however, people like you keep my from just saying "gah, fuck it." BOOM

"Competitive smash is a silly concept it's a game designed around chaotic nonsense" you said that word for word and the rest of what you said in that comment drove yourself into a deeper hole. Your forcing your opinion.
MarioLinkGenofan 3 months ago
@MarioLinkGenofan I stated several times that these indeed where only the people I had met, yes
But I've met a lot of them
I never said I judged the ENTIRE community by them, you're reading non-existant subtext
Looking through my posts, I was correct in my last comment, I've yet to repeat myself without adding to or defending earlier points that you attempted to counter, which is, of course, how an arguement works
And that was me voicing my opinion, not telling others to obey my perceptions
AutumnCrusader 3 months ago
@MarioLinkGenofan Too bad a majority isn't always right and usually agrees on really stupid stuff (i.e.; anti-MVC)
You're the one forcing the opinion here, assuming that anyone who doesn't play "competitively" or resorts to using items is a scrub because apparently, not using items takes "real skill" when all it is is an excuse for those who don't know how to handle items, whether or not they're on the receiving end
kaihedgie 3 months ago
@kaihedgie ...What? The Majority is always right. Since you know, majority rule? Whether or not you are in that group however is completely different from whether they're right or wrong. I'm not forcing my opinion at all, I'm stating to respect others way of playing and mentioning that everyone enjoys to play a game in a different way and hating on others for how they play a game is immature, if they enjoy playing a game without items and have more "competitive balance" let them. Not hurting you
MarioLinkGenofan 3 months ago

MarioLinkGenofan 3 months ago
@MarioLinkGenofan Except it wasn't a "small part", it was the very thing your argument hinged on: If a lot of people think this way then it MUST be true.
kaihedgie 3 months ago
@kaihedgie 1 Sentence of a comment=A majority of my comment. A majority doesn't ***** like you say. Your merely talking about the vocal minority. Regardless, I repeated it once and I'll repeat it again, from your experience which you described you are playing elitists, people who think they're official, but really aren't. These people exist, But regardless they aren't really pros, pros rely on counter stages not final destination, they don't even play people with items, your argument is crap.

kaihedgie 2 years ago 2
Lol no it isn't.
RunsWithScissors61 2 years ago
@kaihedgie
The only stage used in tourneys?
There are 6 neutrals, at least 5 more coutnerpicks, and a lot of players ban FD, depending on the match up.
soccermaster25 2 years ago
@soccermaster25 A lot you say? Gee, that's kinda hard to believe considerin' all the tourney matches I've seen usin' FD because it's a completely neutral and static stage with no 'gimmicks' or interruptions where luck is prominent
kaihedgie 2 years ago
@kaihedgie
If you go to the youtube channel "juggleguy", he has about 200 vids from a tournament that happened 6 days ago. This tournament had an even stricter ruleset than any tournament before it, and it still has only maybe one in 5 matches on fd
soccermaster25 2 years ago
@soccermaster25 ....Y'know what, just ferget it XD Just screw it. And you're wondering why people do not like tourneys.
kaihedgie 2 years ago 3
@kaihedgie
Some people don't like them, and some people do. They are really fun to go to. You have obviously never even been to a smash tourney. This video is just a very bad and incorrect stereotype. Just trying to correct some wrong beliefs.
soccermaster25 2 years ago
@soccermaster25 Just so you know, I've faced against a tourney player and all he did was glitchspam me all day and called it fair play.
kaihedgie 2 years ago
@kaihedgie
Some pros don't even use it.
soccermaster25 2 years ago
@soccermaster25 It is gamebreaking. Is capturing your opponent in an infinite loop of grabs not considered gamebreaking? Is jittering around in such a manner that makes you intangible not considered gamebreaking? Is obtaining abnormally low recovery time not considered gamebreaking? And yet items are considered an abomination. I don't care if even babies can use them, it's still wrong. It doesn't really take any skill to use 'em in the first place
kaihedgie 2 years ago
@kaihedgie
And its just a setup which can be camped or approached like anything else.
soccermaster25 2 years ago
@soccermaster25 /: Still no reasonable justification here. It sounds to me that all that matters is winning, no matter how victory is achieved. That people would go far to ditch actual fighting in favor of glitch fests for the sake of winning only. Forget about fair play all that.
kaihedgie 2 years ago
@kaihedgie
It becomes a fast paced chess match, trying to outsmart and react to your opponent.
waveshining and other ATs are really fun.
soccermaster25 2 years ago
@soccermaster25 That. Still. Doesn't. Make. Sense. Why? Why? Tell me? Explain to me. It's a-okay to do all of that glitching (wave-dashing, chain-grabbing) just because it's 'part of the game physics' and yet items are banned despite being a natural and integral part of the game even though like glitches, they can be used by anyone. Where the hell is the logic in that? Tell me.
kaihedgie 2 years ago 2
And it's not "logic." It's just opinion. All chaingrabs are escapable. Wobbling is really hard to set up, and it isn't even banned at most tournaments. If someone picks ICs, just pick peach, fox or falcon.. That's what makes the game so fun, the strategies and the coutnerpicking of stages and characters. I play sheik, and for my CP, I almost always head to brinstar. It is far from a neutral stage, but I still pick it.
And these things just don't break the game. If you knew the scene youd get it.
soccermaster25 2 years ago
@soccermaster25 Tell that to the guy who chaingrabbed me as Dedede and didn't stop for one second.
kaihedgie 2 years ago 2
Wait, brawl??
Idk about that. Melee is fun. I really can't say anything about brawl, except that DDD's cg only works as long as a flat surface is in front of you. You run out of room pretty quick.
soccermaster25 2 years ago
Same old story, different author. A glitch is a 'programming oversight'. That means an abnormality in the programming that was not intended at all, not an intentional part of the game, no matter how much you try to twist it around so it sounds right. It doesn't work that way
kaihedgie 2 years ago 2
It sounds like you had a bad experience with this tourney player, and I'm sorry you feel this way about the rules.
Quite simply, some people like items, some people don't. Those who don't are in a huge majority in the tournament scene, so we play no items. If half the smash community started wanting to play with items, then tournaments with items would start happening. But not enough people do.. therefore, no items in tournaments.
And designers intentions shouldn't affect how the game is plated.
soccermaster25 2 years ago
@kaihedgie
Abnoramally low recovery time? L-cancelling just cuts lag in half, and its really ease to learn. You can still win if you don't use it, its just harder.
And items are not an abomination. I play with items sometimes, but they're just not used in tournament.
soccermaster25 2 years ago
Hahaha you really hate these "gamebreaking" mechanics. If i were you I would stay far away from Marvel Vs Capcom 2. xP

L3ftStrick3n 2 years ago
@L3ftStrick3n For all of his speedy and expertise, he could have, y'know, dodged it. He also has a Reflector available, so that's really really no excuse to ban items simply on one instance and just raegquit just because of one life lost.
kaihedgie 2 years ago
This has been flagged as spam show
He was clearly intending to powershield the capsule and grab the drop out of the air.
L3ftStrick3n 2 years ago
@L3ftStrick3n Excuses, sir, excuses. The money card does not help your argument, if not make it worse. It only furthers my point that you will do anything and everything to win simply because there's money on the line. That you would abandon all actual principals of fair play for the sake of winning and winning only. Luck cannot be eliminated. You can turn off items or even hazards, but they will always be a luck factor influencing your victory or loss in some shape or form.
kaihedgie 2 years ago 3
This comment has received too many negative votes show
I play this proverbial "money" card to emphasize how crucial it is to eliminate these factors in a tournament setting.
L3ftStrick3n 2 years ago
@L3ftStrick3n Abandoning whatever skills you possessed and gained from hours to weeks to months to years of practicing and training in favor of using glitches only. What's the point if you're not even playing for fun anymore? Luck plays a factor in gaming in general, fighting games are especially no exception either. You can still be close to victory and still lose it all.
kaihedgie 2 years ago 5
This comment has received too many negative votes show
If we didn't find our competitive ruleset fun, wouldn't we have moved on to a bigger gaming scene for more money? I mean, winning is ALL that matters, right? Why not win even more?
What you need to keep in mind is that we all started out playing with items and without ATs. We happen to find our way, no items and ATs, to be exponentially more fun now.
I don't like calling people names, but your ideology suggests that you are something of a bigot. In debates, do try to keep an open mind.
L3ftStrick3n 2 years ago
@L3ftStrick3n As I've said before, I've tried it your way and I didn't like it, so you cannot call me out if you believe I know nothing. I've experienced this all beforehand.

The reason behind this entire dichotomy, this conflict is because solely because of the Smash series because it was obviously never meant for the competitive circuit, thus, when you started changing and banning things, you naturally upset a lot of people, some of those people wanting to escape the troubles seen in traditional fighters
kaihedgie 2 years ago 54

I used the religion analogy to show you that you're only choosing to see your side of things.
I've kept up with most games that have come out. What would you say is more fun? MW2? Mass Effect 2? Maybe MAG?
No, Melee is far and away my favorite game.
Why is this so hard for you to understand? Not everyone has similar tastes. In my eyes, this is the perfect game.
L3ftStrick3n 2 years ago
No. As I've said before, I've already tried seeing things your way once before and it did not work for me at all, nor do I appreciate you calling me a bigot just because. Why is it hard for me to understand? Because even though it's an opinion to be respected, it is certainly not one that can be agreed with.

I have yet to call you out and I have tried things your way.
kaihedgie 2 years ago 5
Smash Bros. is definitely no exception when traditional/proper fighters certainly do exhibit cases of these. It's just really stupid overall. I mean, who really wants to watch a match with money on the line if neither player is going to play fair and if all the stuff that made the game so entertaining and unique stripped away? What's the point?
kaihedgie 2 years ago 4
Both players are playing fairly, under the rules that the tournament has dictated. Although you may be a casual player, I'm shocked that you find your ways to be more entertaining to watch. The common casual opinion is that while tournament games are "full of cheats", they are still more exciting.
/watch?v=ApPTjApGduw
Was that really not entertaining in the least bit for you?
L3ftStrick3n 2 years ago
@L3ftStrick3n Luck will either make you or the enemy slip up. Luck will either send you or your adversary past the Blast Line by a single inch. It matters not, luck can, does, and will affect the outcome of every match.
kaihedgie 2 years ago 3
That's not luck you're thinking of, but rather player skill. If a player makes a mistake, then he lacked the skill to proceed accordingly. By keeping his surroundings static, we can effectively say that it is the player's fault for losing if he made a mistake.
Read Sirlin's article on street fighter. What you describe as luck is what he calls a "scrub's excuse".
