See, the thing about any kind of doom metal is that it cant be commercial EVER unless you remove all the sorrowful guitar riffs and vocals and write something about pink ponies thus making it something else entirely. Mainstream culture DO NOT like to feel melancholy thats it.

i think early katatonia and draconian are in a very different league of their own..the former being the more dark, bleak, cold doom beauty while the latter is more subtle, dark but warmer in melody structures...both have their own atmospheres...

It's still nice and it's still certainly Draconian...just not as...arm..."leaning towards art" as the other.But that's just an opinion. I'm sure they'll come back to the pure style that consacrated them...yet I can't be care-free as I've seen the begining of the end of so many of my previouselly favorite bands starting with a "slightly different" single...I hope this is not the case!

Agreed. Draconian is one of my fav bands but are becoming more comercial and I realy dont like that. I loved Turning Season Within anyway, but this song realy lacks atmosphere and deepness. As paxas sayd, it lacks soul. But arent singles supposed to be like that, comercial stuff required by their contract? I hope that the next album doesnt suffer from this comercial syndrom.

whats wrong, i wonder, with enveloping the audience in crushing doom riffs like My Dying Bride do... if we wanted mid tempo, catchy songs wouldnt we go and see a Charon etc. show? theres some great ideas on Turning Season Within but just not as beautifully crushing as earlier stuff... for a dose of really intense doom check out Mourning Beloveth's A Disease For The Ages. rambling over.

I mean, two things for me are wrong in this album : It's not as melodious as on the others albums and I think that Lisa doesn't sing high enough and with less emotion, but it's in my opinion too.

She doesn't sing high enough and lacks emotion.. Very generic sounding.. her vocals are too sweet which makes them less dark. Now that this band is getting somewhat popular I guess they want to cash in on the gothic fad. I bought their latest release expecting an Atmospheric Doom album but instead I got a generic Gothic Metal album. I'm hoping for a Doom orientated 4th album.. HIGHT HOPES!!

Just to make you know, the singer already told that they made the album a little bit more catchy than the others ones. He also wanted to make the album slower and more melodic. I forgot where I got the interview :(, but it fits with what you said, Bacchante :)

Yeah, read the interview myself. But if I remember correctly he said (Anders)he wanted fast to mid tempo songs not slower for the live shows. I can understand that but I hate when a good band sales out when their popularity suddenly increases.
