  • In Norway this goes on national tv every 23 december

  • Same procedure as every year, James !

  • This is so great!! :D

  • THE BEST luv it

  • cool

  • I'm pretty sure the butler was played by Freddie Frinton...a teetotaller, who took his name from the only town in the UK with no pub! (allegedly)His speciality was playing drunks, needless to say.

  • You're right, it was Freddie Frinton :)

  • great performance!!!

    classic

My South African wife thanks you

  • Beautifully accomplished! Just proves that true Humour of the "recent past" definitely can compete with whatever is considered the humour of today. Thank you!

  • any idea how hard it is to trip over something on purpose, without out it seeming fake?

The butler is a comedic master!

  • We used to watch this every year with the whole family XD

  • I saw this video for the first time only this year, but I am quite sure it will amuse me year by year. Thank you for adding it.

  • this is a classic. never gets old every year we also with the family

  • Yes. It is very great and very funny. Yes. I shall see it every New Year. You can just not stop laughing every time. hee,hee ;)

!The Same as evry Year James!

  • dinner for one ownz u!^^

  • Ah, what a great tradition...Cheerio! =)

  • a absolute must at the evening of 31.dec every year..

  • I look it every year.. and every year I must laugh.. It´s damn great.

  • Great i loock it every Jear.

  • In Denmark too but i Live in Botswana so thought i`d check if i could find it for the famely u know?

  • It is a classic in Sweden - shown on tv on every new years day

  • I discovered this classic while flying LH on New Year's Eve: LH showed this video on the plane before our plane landed in Frankfurt and in Boston on December 31. Thank heavens for YouTube, I get to watch this classic at this time--and, as a matter of fact, at any time--of the year.

  • same procedur as every year ;)

  • The same here. :) I cant imangine a new year without this video.

  • i love it...the same....:-)

  • Weird, I have never heard of this video ever before

  • why is this vid flagged ??

  • caus of the last gag! I thik. It is a sexuell joke^^!

  • Oh my GOODNESS! IT HAS to be FLAGGED. The WINK WAS PURELY LASCIVIOUS! Lol.

  • cos of the massive booze in it and her unspoken order to do her 4 times in the end. heck who cares about flagging anyway, it's just one additional klick.

  • I'm from South Africa, and every year threy play this just before midnight on New Year's Eve. I've watched it for so many years, yet I'll never be bored of it!!

  • always the best ^^

  • why should "Dinner for one" be content for adults?

  • i love it

  • THE BEST

  • It's New Year's Eve here in Australia and they're showing "Dinner for One", just like last year, and the year before,... Love these corny old music hall routines!

  • in germany the same :)

  • I often watch this during Silvester while I'm sitting in front of the TV and eat my delicious ice cream.:D well done

  • Oh my god, this is hilarious xD I love it.

  • i love it :D

  • This is a old movie that is played in European countries for new years.

  • I aplaud your allknowing knowledge and your urge to share it (:

  • great

  • What idiot flagged this?

  • that's the same i thougt as i opened this vid

  • love it^^

  • why is it not suitable for minors???

  • i don´t know xD

  • maybe because of the alcohol

  • i think its the last line. i fink but im not sure that the double entendre is he's gonna have *** wif her (my sick mind). best theatre eva though.

  • "This video may not be suitable for minors."

    uh... wtf?

Anyway, sadly only the short version. The original is much better.

  • a classic. i watch it every year on German TV. :)

  • but not this version ... ;) - it's the swiss version and not as good as the german one ...

  • every new years eve the same.., we always watch it ( in Germany)

  • they used to play it on tv every new years eve in south africa too. so funny, makes u laugh everytime u watch it!! brings back lots of memories...

  • This is sent every 23.december in Norway.

  • We (Switzerland) too watch this every New Year's Eve... So cool!

  • Yes, thats true ! I love it

  • It's brilliant as much a part of a German New Year as the Queen's speech is to Christmas.

  • I'd love our drama group to attempt this.

I've got the script online and hope to do it one day. One of the funniest things I've ever seen...........

  • My father and I used to watch this every new year in Sweden and both laugh until we cried. Watching it again brings back so many memories.

  • They used to play this on tv every new years eve in South Africa.

Made me cry with laughter everytime!

  • Far better is the coloured version produced by NDR. Real funny slapstick on a kind never done today. One can well imagine the younger generation just wouldn't understand. But then I don't understand their humour!

  • IMMER WIEDER KULT!

  • This is only the short (11 min) version from swiss TV in 1964. The german one is longer (18 min) and have more moments to laugh. The better version was made in 1963 with an interesting introduction of Heinz Piper.

  • It's meant to be long winded, quite old fashioned by today's standards. Lighten up, what's ten minutes once a year?

  • I've seen it so many times - and it still makes me laugh tears every single year!! I love it!!

  • Wow. I have never seen this before--it's really cute! We in America are so deprived--it's never on tv!! *cries herself a river*

  • haha Clasick!

  • its british n we british hate it i mean honestly its garbage why is it such a hit in europe???

  • Isn't this a different version that the one on Danish television every new years eve?

  • Yes, with the laughs.

  • Didn't notice anything about laughs... But isn't the stairs higher? The whole setup seems different...

Well, I better watch carefully in a 11 days, if I'm able to focus on the TV ;)

  • watch it every year on newyears 10 mins to midnight, and drink when ever James drinks, danish Tradition :) Merry Christmass and a very Happy Newyears :)

  • Of all the things to flag, some idiot had to do this. No culture son, no culture. This is brilliant as we watched it every year in South Africa. To everybody watching this happy Christmas and a Happy New Year

  • Same prosedure than last year whahahahaha

  • Oh, I love it, although it's not the original German version. Some parts are cut out and the ending is a bit shorter than in the production of the German NDR of 1963.

    But it's still great.

    Silvestertradition! :)

  • dinner for one is einfach geil immer schön silvester mit der ganezn famliy gucken^^

  • unbeatable

    genial heeee ;)

  • Who flag it?!!!! This is a masterpiece

  • Kult!

  • thats tradition i lock that evry new year :D its the best comedy

  • A german girl, was telling me about this its a load of bollocks!

  • why is this vid flagged? lol

  • don't know, maybe because it contains a drunken man ;)

  • This is not only a "Dauerbrenner" in Germany, where it is broadcasted EVERY New Year's Eve, but also in Norway, where the tradition "dictates" that it gets broadcasted on X'Mas Eve! Einfach genial!

  • that would be on the 23rd in Norway.

  • BTW, this is not the version broadcasted in Germany but a recording for the BBC.

  • Who flagged this beautifull play as inappropriate? Can someone "unflag" it please! This is a classic and I watch it every year!

  • This is an original BRITISH theater play, which a german tv show got the rights to record and publish, so no, there is no german version, only a german dub.

  • the german version is in english.

i watch this every year (over 25y)

  • ... I declare this bazar open ! ... GREAT STUFF! I love it.

  • Freddy Frinton who played "James" was a British variety and music hall actor, famous for his drunk routine's.He refused to record this sketch in Germany because of the war. He died in October 1968.This sketch for some reason is never shown in Britain on New Years Eve.Maybe because we are all out getting pissed.

  • das orginal find ich am besten...

deutsche ist aber auch net schlecht

    und damits kein streit gibt....

    BEIDE VERSIONEN sind supaa

  • Klassiker! Die deutsche Version ist aber viel besser ;)

Und wieso ist das + 18?

  • Why is the German version better?

    Original is still the best.

What a pitty if you can't understand English...

  • The "German version" is in english as well, but you have a different view, that's all!

  • Didn´t you notice that the location is different? This is maybe the most important difference! The recording has been made at least twice - the version which we watch every new years eve in german television and this version.

  • great video..."SUGAR IM THE MORNING"

  • i have know this video just last year for christmas thanks to Arne,Wiebke Nathalie and Meike and now i love it too!bye bye :)

  • i love this! =)

  • I love British humor, this is an oldie but awesomie.

    Amazingly funny.

  • Dinner for One: eine deutsche Silvestertradition.

  • this is so cute...and funny.
