  • I don't know why, but while they are in the Houses of Healing and after when Eowyn wakes up and sees Faramir and he smiles back, makes me cry. Does every single time ><

  • the first time i saw Eowyn and Faramir together i thought that this was Tolkien's greatest idea for a new love story.

  • i still cant believe they cut out this scene, esp with Eomer.

  • This is Liv Tyler (arwen) singing ♥

  • Faromir and Eowyn are so cute at the end :)

  • Very powerful acting by Karl Urban. The scream, the cry, the maddening look.... all perfect.

  • You know, Karl Urban should have used the black hole just like Spock to travel back time to cure her little sister, as he is now made it to be a doctor (star trek 2009)...

  • Eomer's scream is so haunting. He captured that moment perfectly. His scream echos in my mind even when Liv begins singing...which is beautiful. :)

  • errr wattttttt? eowin diesssss? wt watttt?>

  • Seeing Eomer in such a state makes me think of my brother, and I wonder if he would ever do the same for me. I would never want to put him, or myself, in that situation. But, seeing their bond always makes me think of him.

  • I'd react just like Eomer if I found MY "little" sister in such a condition. Especially if I thought she had passed heh Gorgeous song. Prompted me to click "like" on LI'vs Facebook thingie.

  • Only the "death" of his sister could bring the mighty Eomer to his knees.

  • I love this scene to bits.

  • Every time I see Eomer screaming like that, I always think of if it were me screaming and my best friend (who's like a brother to me) was on the ground. It makes me cry because I put myself in that situation and it's heart breaking.

  • What's the elvish bit at the beginning of the song?

  • @NymphetamineVille Immen dúath caeda / Shadow lies between us

Sui tollech, gwannathach omen / as you came, so you shall leave from us

Boe naid bain gwannathar, / All things must pass away,

Boe cuil ban firitha. / All life is doomed to fade…

  • @TheDihLyne thanks!

  • it's surprising how one of my favorite scenes from the movie was cut from main version.

  • @tristancalin My favorite scene was cut too, Boromir & Faramir together TT^TT I'd love it if some indie theaters played the extended DVDs before Hobbit comes out.

  • You really get the sense of the gift of the men of Numenor -- their nobility, their power, their healing.

  • I personally wouldn't have minded an extra 2 minutes in the theatrical version. So glad for the extended

  • Faramir's look at the end when he sees her....

  • At 1:45 ...never seen Faramir look more like his brother Boromir.

  • This is nearly my favorite song in the movies, second to Pippin's "Edge of Night" song, which was just heartbreaking. This is so beautiful, though.

…And the first time I saw this, Eomer screaming just about ripped my heart out. So intense. I love how much he cares for his little sister.

  • Holy crap...Karl Urban screaming scared the sh** out of me

  • Eomer's emotion is just... wow. Probably the most emotional scene in the films for me.

  • Liv Tyler did such an incredible job on this song... I love her voice! Such an amazing film.

  • There's something incredibly sexy about 0:51 - poor Eowyn in the moment she awakens from what she hoped would be her glorious end and looks right into the face of the very one she was trying to forget - and he looking terribly desirable at that! Any woman with less strength than she would've then gone into cardiac arrest & died on the spot. :P

  • They should have put this is in the normal version..because this is whats really happening after a battle..not the feeling of victory..

  • :'( i dont have the extended edition but will get the whole shabang in blu ray soon ^^ cannot waiiiiieeeet

  • @demon4411 i know EEK

  • This is enchanting. I remember when I saw it in the extended version. Of all the masterpiece scenes and quote worthy moments in LOTR, I think one of the best is, "Even the smallest person can change the course of the future."

  • Immen duath caeda

    Sui tollech, gwannaomen

    Boe naid bain Gwannathor

    Boe cuil ban firitha

    Shadow lies between us

as you came, so you shall leave from us

    all things must pass away

all life is doomed to fade

  • This is one of the better scenes in the entire trilogy. It should have made the theatrical cut.

  • This song reaks my heart-over and over again. Loss. We have sustained such losses. I greatly wish this had been part of the film.

  • My God, I haven't watched these films in a few years. This scene, coupled with everything going on in the world today, pierced my heart, brought a tear (s) to my eyes. Eomer's pain, his sadness, his despair...I felt every emotion. Amazing scene, amazing movie, amazing trilogy (thank you Mr. Jackson), amazing books (thank you Mr. Tolkien).

  • Guys Guys!

the soundtrack u hear is nown as Arwens Song! (:

found it out just now haha

  • how do you get these scenes?

  • <3 one of my favorite movies...i really hope all the precious lives buried under corrupted buildings in christchurch, nz will be saved... thank you so much for sharing ☆

  • What the crap, ends too quickly.

  • the best movie ever..

  • god this part destroyed me, it physically hurts to see a man cry and karl was losing his mind. perfection. <3 every bit of it.

  • @izzysaurusRAWR This was a hugely moving scene. The whole movie was great. I think one of the only other scenes that was as moving was Gandolfs call for retreat after the orcs and trolls breached the city. The pull was the other way but the concern and worry that was portrayed there was intense!

  • the part with eowyn and eomer :'(

    gets me everytime

and awww faramir, just standing there watching her... thats sweet XD [and a bit stalkerish :P]

  • What the HELL Gandalf! Don't just stand there smiling, you old fool! Heal her!!!

  • @Lazyboy5298 Hi. I really don't think he is smiling in a condescending way. I've thought about this before and I think that "smirk" on Gandalf's face is his way of his way of acknowledging that all war involves loss, especially those who do not deserve to be lost. BTW: Arragon has to heal her. He backed out of healing Frodo in the first movie, but now that he knows who he is by this point, the power is in him to heal her. What do you think? Cheers!

  • Faramir's like =O

  • incredible scene. one of the best in the trilogy. the song sung by Liv Tyler really brings the two women together, the two women who love Aragorn. And when Eowyn wakes up and stares out the window, I believe she finally accepts that Aragorn is in love with another, but she never stops loving him in a way. I just love this scene!

  • Cannot express how much I LOVE this scene. Her voice is stunning. They definitely shouldn't have cut this scene, but i guess all the lord of the rings fans will have the extended box set, so thats fine?

  • WHAT SONG IS THIS?? i cant find it! lol.

  • @aarongbrooks

the houses of healing (feeat. Liv Tyler) It's on the extended version album of Return of the King

  • Easily the best scene in the LotR. It shows Karl Urban is shown as more than a simple warrior, it shows Viggo as more than a heart-throb back-up progatnonist, it portrays Miranda Otto as a valuable character and it cements the relationship she has with David Wenham as the hope for mankind outside of the Royal line of Gondor.

  • Those strings are threatening to leave me in heaps.

  • Who's the douchebag that needs to get devoured by orc mounts, that disliked this?! =|

  • I cannot IMAGINE how someone could not like this video. It makes me think they got the wrong button or were completely jealous they couldn't find the uncut version of the movie (which adds TREMENDOUSLY to the meaning and depth of the film btw). I would definetly suggest finding and purchasing it.

  • mornie utulie mornie atlantie si man i yulma nin enquantuva? namarie

  • @akumie yeah you're so cool, speaking elvish and all. wooooow. >_>

  • Comment removed

  • @RinEditionB jaja well it soundedcool, just sad both msn and youtube dont accept tengwar

Just a side not, there is no language called elvish just as no language is called european

  • With a sigh,

    You turn away,

    With a deepening heart,

    No more words to say

You will find that the world has changed forever

The trees are now turning from green to gold,

And the sun is now fading,

I wish I could hold you closer

  • What a song. Her articulation is impeccable and the dynamic inflections- too good

  • this just touches my hart and wen i first saw the film i was only 2 years old and when i heard this i would not jump around in bed my mom would sing it to me so it makes me cry and that was 9 years ago

  • If someone wants to download it, download complete recording ost the lord of the rings

  • I got the song of the houses of healing, it's incredible

  • Does anyone think that these extra scenes-the ones NOT covered, but most certainly superior-will come out in some EXTENDED extended edition?

  • This isnt in the movie? right?

  • @EmmaWikkeHornbak It's in the extended version.

  • i guess Aragorn was expecting Éowyn to forgive him.

  • @lilemby13 um sorta idk

  • I think one person was so blinded by their tears at the incredible depth of this scene that they missed the like button.

  • @victimofaguillotine i know its my song i sing to my friends mostly every day so they could focus on their work

  • ....how could someone dislike this?!

  • How is that THE best scene in the Lord of the Rings Trilogy did not make it into the final cut?

  • @AustenFugitive I know what you mean! But it's sctually not because it wasn't epic, or the movie producers thought it was bad, but it was because it slowed down the pace of the movie. Directors will cut even a movie cut of a few seconds, because it slows the movie down or messes with the film. They have to keep the story going, and not get sidetracked. But I know what you mean! This really was one ob the bestest scenes in the movie!

  • put this song on a speaker and listen to it up to your ear,..and feel the vibrations of sound....i think that might actually be what Heaven sounds, and feels like. <3

  • Just taking this segment out makes you really think about the elements that make this scene absolutely rock, the music, Karl Urban's cry, Viggo's wonderful poise and soulful quality he has... oh it just doesn't end!

  • I'm cannot quite explain why, but this is one of my favorite scenes in all of the films. It is an extremely tender scene full of unspoken meaning yes...Karl Urban's emotion and Liv Tyler's beautiful singing...but it reaches into the story of future generations as well. Eowyn and Faramir had each lost someone, uncle/father, and both almost died in battle. They fall in love here, carry the unwritten story of the future.

  • This scene makes me cry every time... Karl Urban is so into it with his acting, I can't believe how real it is. THAT there, ladies and gents, is the REAL effects of war

  • this is my favourite part in the books the chapter called the steward and the king. i love how eowyn and faramir come together . i love how eomer looks so destroyed at 1:05 its haunting

  • @PolishPixie YES!! That's *my* favorite chapter as well! Faramir's love for Eowyn healing him, melting her heart, and ultimately healing her is the most beautiful part of the whole book! I still can't get over how unfair it was of them to leave it out of the film. : (

  • @HopeUnquenchable yes that's right!!! I first saw the movie and all I saw was how they looked at each other at the wedding and I thought hell I'd like them ending up togehter but surely they just did it in the movie so noone could ask: "What about Éowyn???" But then when I read it i just thought damn I WANT IT IN THE MOVIE still it's not enough but the two scenes are really touching...

  • @quotecat7 I feel you there! I read the books after the films as well, and had the same reaction as you when discovering the story behind Eowyn and Faramir. It's a crying shame that it was left out of the film; such a beautiful story deserves to be told!

  • @HopeUnquenchable absolutely. but, well at least we have something. the scene in the houses of healing when they talk to each other is just beautiful.

Such wonderful actors, such a good story, and far too little of the story filmed! Damn it!

  • i get very bad goosebumps every time:-s it's kinda scary how it gets me when i listen to it

  • I love the sound of her chainmail when she starts breathing loudly.

  • I was a little dissappointed at ho they didn't show Merry getting healed. And that they still had him fight at the Balck gates when in the book only Pippin went.

  • @orliluvr1432 I know, and Faramir. i wanted to see that too. That's when he first met Aragorn, and he had Black Death in him too. But all the same this with the time Faramir almost was burned alive are my some of my favorite seans!

  • ok I know the movie was already trying to beat or tie with Gone with the Wind for longest running time, but they couldn't have found room for this and the little moment between her and Faramir, Come on it was a little tenderness amidst all the chaos of Mt Doom, and the song was so nice!

  • i love you, Ben x

  • This is an amazing song and Karl Urban is beautiful.

  • @VintageRose93 I concur on both fronts! x100000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000

  • One of my favourite scenes.

  • beautiful song.... i love it, it makes me wanna cry! and this scene, ohhh just the best :)

  • I didn't have then extended edition so I haven't seen some scenes eg.this one! ARG!!! Why didn't they keep this in!!!!!!I have to go and buy the extended edition! NOW! :D

  • Such a pretty song i love it. Has a very nice new age/celtic feeling to it. her voice is so soothing.

  • Liv's voice is just beautiful here. What a haunting song for this scene...

  • hehe Aragorn has the wisdom of the Valar... very nice and touching scene showing how a captain car revive someone...

  • i love this scene! i watched it years ago and it still makes me cry. i just finished the houses of healing chapter in the book and i wish more of faramir & eowyn could have been put into the movies. they did a spectacular job though :)

  • brings a tear to my eye every time i hear it

  • i love this song!!!! it's so emotional, but so beautiful.

  • liv tylor song is great

  • I was so happy when i saw this scene in the extended version!

  • @mykyjohn

    me too!!

  • I cry every time. EVERY TIME. Karl throws such raw emotion into this scene. and it doesn't help that the scene right afterwards is Pippin's discovery of Merry's broken body.

  • @Hse07 so true thats how i reacted

  • @Hse07 I so agree. Plus Theoden's passing two scenes before it.

  • @Hse07 You are stupid. Slapper.

  • this is my favorite part in return of the king. his emotion is pure and it breaks my heart every time i watch it. i just wish that they didn't cut it out for the final cut

  • Such powerful emotions in these scenes. Karl Urban's cry of agonised sorrow...well, it just about tears at your heart to hear it. The deep feeling he puts into his eyes is fantastic, whatn a truly talented actor. I was rather upset they didn't insert this into the film, it was my favourite chapter in the book as a child.

  • @IncomingSanity Well it's still in the extended edition.. To me the only version worth watching :)

  • @IncomingSanity It's in the special edition version. All three make for a delightful nine-hour marathon.

  • @thenerevarine13

I know, I have all the special editions. :) My nerdy marathon earlier this summer turned it into a sleepover where none of us actually slept. Fantastic night! But what I meant was that I wished they'd put this into the screened version of the film, because there were a lot of people who missed out on it as a result. And we also had to wait an extra however many months before the extended edition was released on DVD. Still, this was an adequate reward for all that waiting.

  • @IncomingSanity Very true. I never saw any of them in theaters because my dad made me read the trilogy AND the Hobbit before I was allowed to see any of the movies. Of course, I was also only 6 when the first came out, and I didn't read the books until I was 7.

  • @thenerevarine13 More like eleven and a half.

  • @MrMagikWaffle Right. The originals are the ones that are only three hours long. I thank you for your correction.

  • Ahhhf, his yell! and the song (house of healing)...ssoooooo gooooood!!!!!

  • whats the name of the song

  • Evenstar !

  • @Gfather6969 not evenstar. It is called Arwen's Song.

  • Eowyn is so beautiful :)

  • I agree! Karl Urban is so amazing! I cry every single time I see this because of him screaming...

  • So captivating, so mysterious, so peaceful!

For this 1 minute 47 second I just feel at rest. Deep Peace

  • hearing this song makes me think of the first time I read the book, alone in the mountains... you will find that the world has changed, forever...

  • I've seen this scene hundred times and more.

    And I've cried every time.

  • I can't BELIEVE they cut this out!! I'm sure no-one would have cared if they sat for another two minutes in the cinema if this scene could have been included.

  • The best scene in the whole trilogy. Karl Urban was under used so much, he was wonderful as Eomer.

  • such raw grief

  • Why can't movies be this great anymore? Beautiful scene one of my favorites.

  • His sream thrills me! He did an amazing job!

  • Karl Urban was bloody brilliant in this scene. love it. Should have stayed in the theatrical.

I still wish, though, that they had made it longer and had included Aragorn healing Faramir as well (that still that you can find on the web of the filming of it still makes me hope that one day we'll see some raw footage...)

  • theirs a still on the web, do you have the link? I'd be interested to see that!

  • Mhm. Karl Urban was amazing in this scene.

  • He was good but Ian Mckellen makes the scene for me just by watching with that music in the background

  • This scene was beautiful. Scenes this great are rare nowadays.

  • I agree Karl Urban was more than amazing in this scene! I wasn't even paying attention at the time, I just heard the scream and looked at the screen and the tears just poured out of me! They should've kept this scene! I didn't know that Liv Tyler could sing like that... the whole scene is great!

  • rawr. shoulda kept this scene.

  • i always lol at 0:10 XD

  • Spectacular scene.

  • Karl Urban did an amazing job portraying the emotion in this scene...no, it was beyond amazing. I could watch this scene over and over, it's brilliant. It's heart-wrenchingly beautiful.

  • I love farimir at the end of this!

  • You can find this song on the Complete Version of the Soundtrack for The Return of the King. You can find it on BestBuy's website, on Ebay, or on Napster (there are undoubtedly other places, but I know these off the top of my head.) The CD is a complete recording in that there are many sequences that aren't on the normal version such as the charge of the rohirrim. Only problem is the price which is about $60-$80, but you get 4 CDs worth of music for it.

  • Karl's acting is superb... he looks totally at loss... I like how he just takes Eowyn and rocks her back and forth...

  • This should have been in the film! Liv's voice is beautiful, and Karl Urban's acting is great!

  • Im really annoyed at jackson in the end for not adding this small part into the film because the acting is just too brillant and this scene means something to the film i think.

  • Karl Urban's acting in this part gets me every time. He looks completely destroyed. And the choir in the background is perfect. Liv Tyler inherited more from her dad than that mouth of theirs, haha.

  • this sends shivers up my spine...

  • @gringolazlo everytime..., but it feels good doesn't it?

  • Liv Tyler's voice is Amazing :D i wish they'd shown this in the movie! eowyn and faramir are perfect!

  • My two favorite scenes in Return of the King are this and Pippin's song for Lord Denethor. I look forward to them every time I watch it.

  • Why didn't they leave at least this one scene in the theatrical cut? Heck, the movie would've only been like 2 minutes longer. (BTW, I unfortunatly don't own the extended edition :( ) This would've helped to make sense of Faramir and Eowyn standing next to each other at Aragorn's crowing. The Houses of Healing was one of my favourite parts of the book, too. Oh, well, at least I get to see it here.

  • SPEACHLESS !!! Every time i see this, remain hipnotized by the song and specially Liv Tyler voice

  • God, where are these scenes in the film? Is it a longer version? Is it available to watch? Where?

  • Yes, there are extended editions of the movies. Available everywhere.

  • amazing. i can listen to this for hours and hours. it sounds like liv tyler though. is it?

this is a true masterpiece.. the most beautiful melody i have ever heard. and her voice is just peferct for this..

  • it is her.

  • i LOVE this....why did they not leave it in the movie!!!

  • man can she sing she is a really beautiful singer

  • Liv Tyler, who plays arwen is the one who sings this.

  • WHY did they take this scene out of the final cut? It's soooooooooo beautiful!!

  • it was NOT taken out. it is in the extended edition. you know? the four-hour long version of Return of the King? that is why it was not in the theatrical preview. the movie is insanely long.

btw, i wish it were longer. ;)

  • By taken out I mean taken out of the original movie. I'm not talking about the extended cut. Seeing as I own the original movie and not the extended edition, the only way for me to watch this scene is here. So yes, it WAS taken out.

  • well, your own fault you bought the short one... ;)

kidding. but i suggest you buy the long one. it is a huge pleasure for those who read the book because they understand those extra scenes. and the entire movie makes more sense and is so much more beautiful with them. adieu

  • Liv Tyler has a beautiful voice.

    *favs*

  • they should have left this in the movie

  • they did. in the extended version.

  • it IS a great song! Wow! Can you get these songs on itunes?

  • OMG!

it's the first time i watch this scene of the film!!

why I hadn't bought the extended version! oh.. shit!

    it's gorgeous that song!

  • why the fuck was gandalf smiling

  • he isn't smiling. i think he only knows that aragorn is going to heal eowyn. he probably knows from the skills.

  • i love liv tyler her voice its so pure

  • lovely song! my new my space song!!

  • you really wouldnt think thats liv tyler.. amazing

  • Why is Eomer sooo sexy when he's screaming in agony and grief? :P

  • i know right *sigh*

  • Liv Tyler (Arwen) sang the song for this scene, even though it was meant for the scene where she sees her son in the forest as she rides for the Grey Havens. she has an amazin voice and i think it fits into this scene perfectly

  • why haven't i seen this =S.

    are there deleted scenes!?
