  • I have "a couple" of questions regarding pass #2:

    1)Does it have a name?

3)You grab at the shin/far down on pants, I grab at the knees. My grip sometimes gets me in leg lasso:/ But knees are easier to control sideways. What do you think is the best grip: by the shin or knee?

    3) Is there a variation where you either try to push the legs away(to opponents left side) or down on the mat towards you? Can you please explain details on the pass and its variations?

    Thanks for uploading!

  • This worked a treat for me during my last session. Thanks for sharing!

  • not a good thing ken to grab by jiu-jitsu suit because its not a realistic interpretation of on the streets

  • So im guessing 2/3 of those techniques wouldn't work if you were fighting in MMA, they dont have long pants on.... defeating the purpose, if you grab their calf, you wouldnt have a good grip on it.

  • The blue belt looks like Forrest Griffin

  • that isnt really a technical pass but it still gives u the points and all i dont consider it a pass its the other guy being stupid

  • What makes the guy on bottom unlock his feet? Can't he just keep them crossed?

  • posture up and go from there

  • I dont know, i try everything to do a really good guard pass, really using anything i know, a lot of things that go easy on practice dont work when you are rolling man. Im fucked up. When you do drills everything goes smooth, when i try to open guard when im rolling against a good guy, its impossible to me.

  • all the dude on the ground has to do is grab the blokes feet/ankles who is standing and push him backwards on his ass it happens to me every single time i try to do a standing guard pass, he is pretty good at expaining the feet position though but i dont think i could pull it off against the blokes i roll with.

  • @yamum1976 Pay attention, as he pushes the opponents knee down to break the guard he also takes a step behind so the opponent cant grab his ankle. While doing this, he is also having a good grip on the opponents other arm to prevent him from grabbing the other ankle.

  • hmmm it's strange it seem like he passes that when ever he defend symmetically, can you do different moves on different leg to have a results?? i know that you might not get the full pass, but will it give you a better position?

  • im not feelin' these passes some of em bank on your arms out strengthing their legs! preposterous.

  • Y does it sound like someone is fapping in the background i can't concentrate

  • These aren't very realistic guard passes... just standing up while caught in guard isn't going to open up a decent player's ankles.

  • It's the way he stood up. By holding the same side sleeve the guy on bottom can't do any sweeps or subs without opening first. Give it a try...kneebars, heel hooks, star sweeps, x guard...it's all gone as long as he holds onto the same side sleeve. Carlos Gracie developed this method years ago.

  • That's the guard that gives me problems, but the way he shows how to pass it makes me feel stupid.

  • same. ahaha.

  • I thought exactly the same thing, I can easily get confused, he makes it look oh so very easy.

  • kkkkkkkkk como se fosse facil assim,,,

  • Boom I need to take advantage of it.

  • Nice,

    Keep it simple.

  • I was taught spider guard a little bit different. I use one leg inside the other on the outside

  • what happens if they didnt have pants could you do this moves

  • Why would you wrestle a half naked person?

  • Have you heard of shorts and a tshirt?

  • It was a joke ya dumb meat head. Go practice your guard pass to the darce and then RELAX!!!

  • Most of the time, when you're fighting a guy, they're going to rip off their shirt for one of two reasons. 1. They're experienced and don't want it pulled over their head like a hockey fight, 2. They're ripped and pumped up and want to intimidate you... You never get to pick your opponent...

  • Then you don't do that move...there are other options...You could just as easily cup the legs and get the same effect

  • Brothers, all these moves work and like all moves are subject to timing and mistakes on part of the person fighting spider. If you are fighting Romulo Barral, none of these are going to work, if you are fighting someone else that has a weak spider guard, they work just fine, I've used them all at one time or another, and no they do not work every time, but what one move does?

  • "and no they do not work every time, but what one move does? "

A knee to the face works every time. lol

  • Like the machete pass!

  • You can't knee from the closed guard. durrrrrr

  • it works every time if you hit....and you have to work your way to get that hit...otherwise , it's the same it's not a move that work every time.

  • @G0dspelronin the father nelson!

  • The second one isn't going to work if he is putting pressure on your hips and pulling on your sleeves. If the guy on the bottom has his hips off the floor like he is supposed to, stepping back won't get you anywhere.

  • I wonder if those moves would work in competition. I like the first pass.

  • I really like the concept here and thanks for the idea that we should be separating each contact for the open guard to avoid these passes but I have a problem. We tried these passes and they are very difficult to make work if the other guy is using good pressure with his feet. I mean it is just not easy to move his legs around like you did in your clip. Any tips? Cheers.

  • Best advice I can give. If you are ever in delaware stop by or show a vid clip so I can see exactly what you are talking about.

  • Thanks!
