look man i have been playing for 11 years. and im 16.. when you continually hit the stick on a drum and it rests on your palm, it will send shockwaves through the wood and into your hand. You wont notice it until much later on in life when your bones and muscles start to deteriorate. Trust me... my drum instructor has some problems because of a bad habit he had wen he was a young man. Check out my drum vid. I cant remember if u can see my hands.. but thats how you should hold em.

That's so bullshit. I'm holding the sticks from the very bottom end, and have no problems playing anything. Haven't dropped a stick accidentally in 2 years. I'm playing a lot of styles also. I hold the sticks from the fulcrum only when I need very soft and minimum volumes out of the kit. Othervice I just do what's comfortable.

yea but holding ur stick that way and playing wrong can also result in permanent nerve damage wen ur older. trust me... this kid will want to change his sticking when hes young because he will realize its a bad habit when he is older and wish he had. because its much easier to change a bad habit wen ur young. it could instantly improve his playing and speed as well. i used to have the same habit wen i was young.
