  • continued: if they find it convenient. The intent of marriage at this point becomes meaningless.

  • The guy defending traditional marriage is giving a pretty weak argument. I oppose same-sex "marriage" because marriage is the fundamental institution in which society functions. Both genders have characteristics that are unique to their own and each contribute these to their child or children. How does same-sex marriage threaten my marriage? You are telling my children that the two genders are interchangeable, that they are not unique that a boy can marry a boy and a girl can marry a girl.

  • Brian, Brian, Brian... when you can't get a sympathetic ear on Faux News, you're irrelevant.

    Go die somewhere.

  • Whatever "true and good and beautiful" the state supports it turns into false and bad and ugly by its anti-Midas hand. Welfare is but one blatant example of that. Down with statism, legalize freedom NOW!

  • "what is 'true' and 'good' and 'beautiful'" This man scares me

  • I'm going to have to disagree 100% with Stossel on this. From a libertarian perspective, his stand makes no sense. It would be one thing if he said the federal government shouldn't define marriage, but what about state's rights? Don't libertarians advocate state's rights? If so, then shouldn't they be okay if states vote no on gay marriage? And shouldn't they cry foul when judges make the decision, not the people? Yet that's what happened in the six states he mentions.

  • @MrTrilliondollarman Libertarians support individual rights before states rights.

  • @zjb6148

Ok...then would you like to explain why libertarians are against people's individual right to vote when the votes say no to gay marriage?

  • @MrTrilliondollarman The definition of a libertarian is that individuals should be free to do whatever they want as long they are not harming anyone else. Now what is considered harm to another person can be argued about, but many libertarians see marriage as only affecting the two people involved in the actual marriage hence, the general notion that the government, on any level really, shouldn't be involved in it. As far its effect on society, well heterosexual marriage has an effect too...

  • @zjb6148

and that right there shows why libertarianism just doesn't work. First of all, relationships don't exist in a vacuum. Second of all, man by himself is not the end all, be all of what is right and wrong. Third, the state of a society reflects the state of families, and a warped view of family results in a warped society.

  • @MrTrilliondollarman man is indeed the end all be all of what is right and wrong.

Even if you rely on religion, that is nothing more than a creation of man.

  • @tedlick

That is only true if your an ignorant atheists with a closed mind.

Those of us with open minds know better.

  • @tedlick

You are completely wrong on that in every way, shape and form. We did not create ourselves and we don't get to do whatever we want, whenever we want.

  • Stossel is not a liberal; to say otherwise is disingenuous at best. I still don't see how gay marriage hurts anyone. I try to see the anti-gay side, but it just isn't supported by facts...

  • The audience was obviously hand picked to support the sodomites.

  • When will NOM listen to themselves? They are yet to present ONE thread of evidence that gay marriage threatens or damages heterosexual marriage. They can only bring in unrelated variable to SCARE people into agreeing with them. It is in the BEST interest of the child to be taught to RESPECT gay/marriage! What sense is it for the State to pass laws in support of gays, while at the same time kids are raised to hold anti-gay opinions? That is only setting up the child to serve time in Prison.

  • at 5.05-If the state decided what's good and beautiful, the end result would be a cross between the Human Centipede and the Disney Channel

  • wow. lots of hate here... from both sides of the isle. to the religious ones i ask, why do u friggin' care what gay people do? and why do you think you have a right to use the law to force your religious beliefs on other people in a free society, heellloooo, FREE society. to the leftists why do think you need to force your belief onto other people in a country where religious tolerance is supposed to be embraced? nobody is making you go to church.... yet u attack christians...get over it...

  • I like this new phrase 'sexual anarchy' that the cons have cooked up: it allows them to actually oppose FREEDOM itself.

    Freedom is anarchy,

    Ignorance is strength

  • Ahhhh, dear bigot Brian Brown. If you really think the institution of marriage is at risk why don't you ban divorce? Gays and lesbians seek to enter the institution of marriage as it now stands. We don't want to change it, and certainly not to overturn it. That's foolish. And Brian, I don't remember voting on your marriage. Why do you insist on voting on mine? My family and friends are totally ok with recognizing that I am lesbian. Surely they have the right to come to my wedding.

  • Brian Brown made to look stupid, what else is new.

    Nice work John!

  • Is it just me or does Brian Brown talk and move like Eric Cartman?

  • Brian Brown is dying. Even Fox doesn't support him anymore. It's just sad.

  • um, watch fox business much? obviously not... you might want to look into it before you post stupidity. And I think the fox jokes are kinda old now, arent they? Libertarian thought is found on fox business...

  • @MinnieE24 Just so you know, I don't watch Fox AT ALL. If there is any stupidity, it's Fox.

  • @smkz83 thats pretty obvious. So im curious then, if you dont watch fox "AT ALL" then how was it exactly that were able to come to the conclusion that its stupid? I wonder if your regurgitating someone elses opinion since obviously, by your own admission, you couldnt possible have formed one of your own... talk about stupidity. That said, yes there is stupidity everywhere, obviously, but how would you know. And I bet you think Stossel is a conservative right winger... eh?

  • Hate is hate, God didn't say to hate did he?

  • Oh gosh Brian Brown brings up the same crap over and over, he's an idiot

  • The government's redefining of a contract will have an effect on existing and future contracts. Saying that government policy doesn't affect individuals is an utterly ludicrous argument. For example, the government does not recognize a contact where there is not sufficient consideration. If the government decides that contracts no longer need consideration to be enforceable, that will affect contracts that have consideration. New rules have to be made, and all contracts are affected.

  • 6 states have abolished civil marriage. They have legalized homosexuality. Now Polygamists are in court with the same legal argument. Gays claim they are born that way. Polygamists can say there are born that way too. Sexual arnachy is now the norm.

  • @equalityamerica Non Sequitur.

  • @equalityamerica whats wrong with polygamy? i think every woman needs more than one man...

  • @MinnieE24 Aftern the legalization of Homosexuality and the abolishment of marriage, everything is possible. In anarchy everything goes. Garriage now exists. We have gaybies !!! We have sperminators with rented incubators. The sellling of body parts is the new face of slavery. As you said, there is nothing wrong. It is a perfect world !!! Evolution is replace by regression Bravo !!!

  • @equalityamerica please explain how selling one's body parts / fluids constitutes slavery exactly. Theft of a body part is already covered under theft. And explain please how gay marriage is affecting your well being, mind you not religiously, but physically, is it putting your life at risk? As far as 'legalization' of homosexuality... should we also reconsider the legalization of divorce? Reinstate the concept that women are property? These are religious beliefs forced into public law... ugh

  • @equalityamerica Civil marriage was redefined by No fault divorce laws. What happened to love and commitment when 80% of divorces are forced divorces and one spouse tried to keep the family together when the other one just walk away. No fault divorces promots child and spouse abandonment.

Millions and millions of kids had a broken heart when their own parents split selfishly. This generation sacrificed innocent children for the selfishness of adults. Parents even killed their own(more...

  • children in the womb. Now with garriage, we deny children the most fundamental right to a father and a mother. That is a crime against humanity. Using women as sperm incubator is a new form of slavery when children are sold to the highest bidder. Meanwhile men are killing each other through unatural intercourse. Over 130,000 people live with HIV/AIDS in New York alone. Our society is barbaric. Are you happy about it ?

  • Me thinks the lady doth protesteth too much. If Brian and Maggie had the marriages they argue they represent they wouldn't have the time for this BS. Seriously people happy in their SSM (state sanctioned marriage) don't have the time to run around proclaiming that SSM (same sex marriage) is going to destroy it. Both of em should hit the gym and go home and make more love to their spouses.

  • Brown even fails on FOX... for a right wing wind bag like him, that is a new low...

  • The state should not be involved in the legality of marriage. It should be between you, your spouse and your church. The government should have nothing to do with it. If we truly followed the equal protection part of the Declaration of Independence, everyone would be treated equally, married or not.

  • Just when you think that Brown couldn't possibly get any fatter he packs on another 25 pounds of blubber. What a disgusting mess of a man.

  • Proving once again that Brown's objection to marriage equality is nothing more than animus against decent gay and lesbian people. Every person asked the question "how does marriage equality for gays and lesbians negatively impact "your" marriage" can never provide a rational reason. Ever.

There truly is NO logical reason to prevent gays and lesbians from getting married.

  • @Bpers2001 Of course there is!

No one should allowed to be married! (as recognized by the government)

  • @Bpers2001

You must not have been listening, at all. Sorry, just because you don't accept it or like it, doesn't mean it isn't "logical".

Its funny how libertarians like you and stossel are all for the free market and being free to choose, except when it goes against what YOU believe. Isn't there a few states that allow gay marriage? Let the states that want to ban it live in the misery you think they do. Go fucking live elsewhere in your paradise.

  • Fatass Brian Brown and his co-hort in Bigotry,Hate and Discrimination - MAggot Gallagher (her maiden name-she doesn't use her married name-WHY??) are scared thier CASH COW is drying up, and the 2 Gluttons will have to get REAL JOBS.
