i have ordered myself a kindle and it arrives early this week. i am staying home from college to receive it. cannot wait for it to come!!! want to get my hands on this amazing piece of tech!!

im taking it to america this summer, so need to stock up on books and such. i have already bought two, which are going to transferred to my device when it arrives !

You can get free out-of-copyright books through the Gutenberg Project.

You can also get free books through Amazon itself, but it's like a flea market - they're probably not the books you want to read.

Yeah I was kinda shocked that the instructions were on the screen...How they did that without the Kindle being turned on is unknown... Very interesting..

Can you flip the text into "landscape' as yo would with a picture? That would be a benefit to me. I don;t like the idea of squeezing text into 5 words per row.. :(

I searched the User's Guide Manual, and checked in several message boards, but found no option for flipping to a landscape view.

One possible workaround would be to import a PDF that is already set in landscape mode. That would take a bit of work to arrange, though.

I greatly appreciate your effort!! It would be a good attribute to Kindle if they added the flipping text option. I still haven't received my Kindle yet but I'm afraid I'll return it due to its tiny screen :(

They could've easily made the screen bigger I think, but how will they sell Kindle 3 & 4 if this one's already perfect? It's a sleazy marketing tactic I believe...

No - the text has no shadow. It's like reading the world's clearest Etch-a-Sketch screen. :)

I loved the fact you thought there was plastic on the screen, it goes without saying that the screen must be fantistic
