Hey... MCI studio team .I have been studying your methods and have gotten excellent insight. But I am not very clear on the buses and what is the essential use of this procedure. Do I make a bus for every track or group of tracks? please email me at niggagod@ymail.com with your answer. Thanks for sharing your knowledge on the new Sonar x1 product.
Good stuff! I've done mastering in X1 but just seeing you do it is great. Plus I see you using Boost11 on vocals. Never thought of it, but it's great on some of the overly dynamic performances. Thanks for taking the time to post! Keep talking...
check this one out, I went from sonar 8 to sonar x1 and I loaded my old unfinished session from 8 to x1 they play fine I have no problem there but when I try to record new vocals and play the back the vocals are off as far as the timing is concern the vocals are off and every vocal I record is the same way do you have any answer to help me out of this problem or did I explain it well enought let me know
Your tutorials are very helpful to new users of Sonar like myself. I'm a little confused about terminology though. You refer to compression affecting lower and higher frequencies etc. My understanding is that compression squashes the higher Amplitudes allowing the lower amplitudes to be raised, and is usually independent of frequency, (unless side chained). Thanks again; I'm not trying to be a PIA, just a little confused.
@lenos6120 No you are right, that is indeed what compression does, but as you can imagine when you compress a sound that naturally has frequencies these are effected, this is why too much compression can make your track appear dull, because the higher frequencies are being squashed with the volume. I should have made myself more clear sorry. But yes in general you are right. Cheers
i dont know if your familiar with the bands in flames and soil work , but they use synths in their songs, i was wondering how i could do that in sonar x1 , do i need a keyboard? , or can do trough effects in sonar x1 , any help would be much appreciated thanks :)
@alsem333 Hi there, yes i know the bands, and yes i would recommend a keyboard when working with synth's it makes life a lot easier. You can use the synths without by going into the piano roll and putting notes in manually but as you can imagine it would take much longer to do. Cheers
Hi can you help me i am using sonar x1.I have entered a backing track and when i try to record a vocal track via my external mixer it records ok but when it plays back in sonar x1 the vocal track plays in front of the backing track, can you tell me why? cheers
i use session drummer to make my drum track, and after i add different compressions, etc i lose some snare or kicks in random places, but when i take the eq off, they come back? what am i doing wrong??
Wow , I learned a lot today. I always thought mastering was rocket science and way out of my league. lol This makes me wanna go ahead and experiment and learn some more. Thanks a lot ,friend, it was very helpful. god bless.
Thank you so much for putting this video out!!! I am trying to learn the basics as I have no training and my tracks are suffering. This is the kind of information that I need and I really appreciate that you explained it so well. You mentioned that the tutorial might be wordy, but I felt it was very useful words! This is the first of your tutorials that I've seen and I plan on watching every single one and again I thank you for the knowledge to help me get the most out of Sonar X1! Take Care!
@alsem333 Hi there, each type of music will require different types of approach when it comes to both mixing and mastering. Metal is something that I work on a lot, and the trick is to get the right balance of compression. The guitars are something you are going to want to concentrate on, getting the right balance between the two and how much pan you introduce. But mainly, really focus your attention on the drums, as with any metal track, the backbone is always the drummer!! Cheers
@MCIHomeStudio Thank you for the quick reply mate :) , maybe in the future a video about studio monitors would help ;), how they can be setup for the best quality etc etc , cause i have monitors but dont know if they're setup correctly, mine or connected trough usb on my pc , but i also have the option to connect them trough TRS cables on my guitar interface(line 6 POD ux2), i dont know wich one would be better sound quality , THANKS MUCH MATE!!!:D
