I wouldn't have thought that hearing this song on the theremin would have made me feel the longing and loneliness of the song. Thanks to Harold Arlen, E.Y. Harburg and dear Judy Garland.
This is truly a STUNNING performance. An RCA theremin (It is my fantasy to be able to play on one just once) in the hands of an accomplished player! Clara Rockmore would be proud of this!!
@jojofelina how does it look wrong? because his hand is shaking? You realize its at about chest level..you must be super fucked up if you think there is anything 'wrong' that can be happening with a movign hand at chest level on a man.
Hearing this played on the RCA theramin (instead of your Moog one), I am getting this weird meshing of "Wizard of Oz" and "Outer Limits" in my head. And I expect to hear the voice of control come on as Oz saying "Do not adjust your set". Still, very well done in any event.
oh, more idiots who DISLIKE things they do not understand .. SHEEISH, give me a break ... TO THOSE WHO DISLIKED HISTORY IN THE MAKING : GO PLAY ON THE HIGHWAY AND REMOVE YOURSELF FROM THE GENE POOL, PLEASE
@carlafierro7 Stupidity is a disease running rampant across the globe. I am subjected to it's ill effects every day. It makes me weep for humanity's future. I wish more than anything in the world that we may find a cure for those who fail to drop their ignorance and find enlightenment, but, sometimes I find, I wish in vain. As a comedian once said, "You Can't Fix Stupid."
I love your passion and artistry and your joyful combination of ancient and modern. Deeply inspiring. Such a joy to see. May all things always be well for you!
i was making the strange movement of the right hand and albur came into my mind... (auto) lesson: if u fap then u alredy mastered the vibrato on theremin
Who are the 5 people that disliked this? Obviously, they have no appreciation for the Theremin and its full potential especially when someone as talented as Mr. Pringle is behind to make it sing.
@remo1366 The tube type or solid state? Can't imagine SS sounding anywhere near as good. Although with high precision test equipment you can match components with greater accuracy than ever.
Theremins work by having two oscillators.. one fixed in frequency (tone) and the other one connected to the antenna through a lot of wire. The long wire makes the oscillator very sensitive to the proximity of ground to the antenna. You are the ground. You are part of the oscillator's feedback loop and change it's frequency. The changing oscillator mixes with the fixed oscillator and the difference of the two is fed out the speakers. The other antenna acts to control the audio output level.
I have seen many of your videos. This and the Richard Strauss pieces tell me that you are a very special person. You have an almost otherwordly connection to the theremin. Truly a symbiotic relationship. Excellent thanks
The rendition made me cry. I don't much listen to theremin renditions, not until lately. They hurt me too much, and I cry. I think of her, of you, of Bob, of Charlie...I think of her and you and your quest for perfection. I will recall a tiny story now, five hundred characters permitting> The instrument sounds WONDERFUL, better by far than when Hoffman played. Somehow, it has a QUICK ACTING volume circuit! But! The rest of the tone is of YOU...tbc
Now, if this reply to my input goes below the first, this should make sense. I recall now the first and only theremin lesson given to me by aging, ill, Clara. She at the piano. Myself at her instrument. I played "The Swan", pretty well! She looked up at me from Nadia's gift, that little Steinway M, and beamed, "VERRRRY GOOD! Encore!! Encore!! I need more theremin! Man! I have wanted one of these puppys for years! Ever since I saw one used in an orchestra concert by a fellow student! Amazing! I've kept in contact with him over prices for one. But wow, they cost alot. Some up to $1000! Still, please give us more! I will subscribe! I must find more!
Actually the biggest reason you need a decent amount of space is because the theremin generates electromagnetic fields that can pass through and be disrupted by nearby objects. I have a tiny and rather cluttered studio apartment and so there's lots of opportunity for interference. And if there are any metal objects or objects with metal components you can really run into problems.
Never heard of Theremin - it sounds just great. Can anybody explain shortly how the hell it WORKS? Seems that the hand mouvements are transmitted into sound. Something with magnetism, or waves?
IrishLincoln-You are adorable. My desire to play the Theremin is not just a recent passion. It goes back for years. If I can figure out where to put the equipment in a tiny studio already filled with a jewelry worktable and a painting table (no sofa, no chairs like a normal apartment), I'll go for it.
Wow. Stumbling on your profile, I see (or hear) you to have amazing ear to hand coordination! This particular theremin is quite becoming, too - both with it's internal amplification / speaker, and wonderful cabinet finish. Please feed us hungry theremin appreciators with as many wonderful tones as possible, Peter!
HOW THE HELL DOES HE DO THAT
gamecock366 6 hours ago
@gamecock366
A theremin is a rather simple electronic instrument which works by sensing changes in the electromagnetic field around 2 antenna's.
