We used to do the liquid nitrogen thing at university. We had 6-9h of lectures per day. Sometimes the staff would be putting on events for other researchers or prospective student, which would mean vast amounts of sandwiches, cakes, free tea and coffee... their mistake was not securing this sectioned off area well enough. Because a few of us would always raid it for something to eat and a free coffee. There was also a nitrogen dewar, into which a number of chocolate bars went before eating

This moron is handling liquid nitrogen with bare hands. If some of that liquid nitrogen would spill on his hands his hand would deep freeze instantly and his hand would have to be cut off.

@jnieminen2 liquid N2 isn't half as dangerous as that. I've spilled loads on myself in my time. It boils off so fast that a layer of gas instantly forms between you and the liquid. For a couple seconds you are protected. It would have to be an awful lot of N2(l) for it to require amputation and not just a burn (like for warts etc).

Liquid nitrogen is cold but it doesn't cause instantaneous freezing. I've handled it with my bare hands before, definitely got some on me, and no permanent damage was caused.

Small splashes of liquid nitrogen don't do any harm - the drops just run off like water droplets on a hot plate (it's called the Leidenfrost effect). Believe it or not, you could stick your hand in and pull out quickly without harm.
