haha, that's brilliant! Thanks for showing that not all us motorcyclists are dickheads obsessed with speed! Skill is much more important, speed is a by-product of that skill (Unless you buy a litre bike, but then, there's all speed and no skill, a dangerous mix)
@dougaholic Speed in corners, sure. Speed in a straight line, however, is a by-product of twisting your right wrist back, which does not require any special skills lol.
@kj7687 Yeah I probably should have clarified a bit. I mean that a skilled rider will ride fast without even trying to go fast. anyone can twist a throttle (amputees excluded, sorry!), but a skilled rider can twist the throttle on a hairpin corner and come out twice as fast as he/she entered.
@SKEEAV2 It was simply a joke. If you want to know the serious side to it, I don't understand the purpose of the Ninja 250R. Sportbikes are made for performance (I know that doesn't apply to this video). Why would you take a design that was made for performance and put an underpowered engine in it? You could argue it's for beginners, but if they're truly a beginner then they shouldn't be on a performance machine.
@GODSFlST supersports are great and all but are you racing for a living? - Do you take it to the track once a week? - When are you realistically going over 110mph? - When do you need to get to 60mph faster than 6 seconds?
The 250r is faster than 95% of cars out there. It's extremely fun, still gives you quite an adrenaline rush, far better suited for filtering through traffic and city riding and gets 75mpg. What are the advantages of a 600cc? You can go faster than 120mph? - woohoo :)
@rgaufman I am in no way criticizing the use of a motorcycle for things other than speed. What I AM criticizing is the contradiction that is the Ninja 250r.
The 250r is a SPORTBIKE. Sportbikes are characterized by performance. The Ninja 250r is therefore outcast from it's own category (recently joined by the CBR 250). In addition they threw the "r" into the name, meaning that it has good performance. Not good compared to cars, good overall.
Not to mention trying to have a passenger on it...
@GODSFlST I see your point, but if you want something with good maneuverability for city riding, some wind protection, fuel economy, "good enough" performance and something you can ride on the highway, what else is there?
Touring is not great in traffic, scooter is not great on the highway. Maybe a naked bike like the ER-6n with a windscreen? - or a 250r. Anything else?
Kawasaki call both of these SportsBikes and the performance machines are now Supersport.
@rgaufman by that I mean, how would you classify something like the 250R and ER-6n if not a sports? - yeh, maybe they should drop the R though, that's clearly just marketing.
8 seconds feet up at below walking pace...didn't the UK have a walking pace thing for the licence? I remember Aus did years ago and I did it on a GT 750 but so many things change. Bloody good skill to have though, I see too many riders dragging feet with very little control!
@sierraonezero Yes we still have that in Aus. In Vic you need to do this slow speed ride where you need to ride through this box painted on the ground, about 10m long and about 50cm wide. you need to spend like 6 or 8 secs in it... without going outside the lines or putting your feet down...
Not a bad thing then, it's a valuable skill. Be interesting to find out if NSW does it because I see way too many paddlers and draggers around Sydney but no way near as many as I saw in the US during my visits, that was comical!
@DKTandy I'd still wear my helmet but yea, way more respect than I thought I'd give them. Almost gave it a thumb down before I even finished watching lol.
@5h4d0w990 Agreed. I'd have smoked those guys easy lol. I used to practice this all the time on the way to and from work (45 minute drive through city streets with lights and such). I got pretty damn good at it. To where I would almost never have to put my feet down even through like ten stoplights. I'd take like two minutes to go 30 ft behind the cars stopped at the traffic signals haha.

YEA I GOT THE NEED FOR SPEED...NO BUT REALLY THAT TAKES A LITTLE BIT OF PRACTICE SHOWS HOW GOOD YOU ARE WHEN IT COMES TO CONTROLLING YOUR BIKE
IcePickSnowmanzzzz 8 months ago
Actually. Slow Races do take a bit of skill. Try it with a biddy sometime. See who can ride the slowest for 100 feet.
