Your going well, but listen on better shows very well the attitude of Alvin read while running, watch your fingers and try to move the pick as he does. That song is a genuine classic to start on guitar shred. Old song but technically wonderful.
Actually I"m starting to not care so much what people have to say on youtube. People who've commented and claimed they have musical knowledge have yet to prove it. If you don't mind telling me specifically, and I mean really what I'm doing wrong, what should be improved, then yeah, I might take it into consideration.
Thank you nonetheless for your courtesy and politeness.
@QuiltedPine: There are quite a few "improvised" (as you put it) parts, 0:12 being the first and most obvious as it sounded a little less alvin lee and a little more gary rossington.
I won't say the playing was bad, but this is one of those that I would never have the balls to play any way other than note-for-note. I'm not even a fan of "shred" guitar but while this may have been like the genesis of shred, it's just not the same. Either way, good playing, bad cover.
@noellitusrockius Well that's for sure, he was faster and more aggressive than J H, in my opinion, but I am not trying to play exactly like he does, I am just having fun.
@QuiltedPine Sure, Alvin was faster and more aggressive than jimy. Each of these great players have something special and unique to offer in its style.
In my opinion, Hendrix was extremely creative for its time. Alvin Lee was more focused on rock and roll and traditional blues without leaving much of the line. Hendrix gave new possibilities to the electric guitar
Do not feel sorry for the comment, I have almost 35 years playing guitar, I fell in love with the guitar after watching and listening to Alvin Lee and Hendrix at Woodstock. In fact this song was the first to try to play even though my friend told me that this song was for intermediate and advanced guitarists.
@levijones79 too young?... for what? I bought that guitar when I was working on contract for the Governement back in 2000... so yeah, I just look young. what can you do.
@QuiltedPine No offence, but he has a point. But I think it is not so much your playing as it is the sound. I would try to get it a bit smoother. I don't know.. maybe more bass, bit more contour.. something like that.
well, the amplifier was just a little peavey Rage 108 with a damaged speaker cone...
and he wasn't referring to my tone when he says "you". However you raised a good point... what do you mean by contour? definitely not more midrange, cause there was lots of that.
@QuiltedPine "Contour" is a variable on my Marshal amp. Hard to explain but if you turn that one down, it sounds like the music is playing on a really cheap radio. But maybe that's just a specific thing I have on my amp. Don't know so many amps and the respective settings. Anyway, the playing is not bad. It's an ambitious piece to play though, to be certain.
Not even close, but I think you did a good job for a bedroom player. What made Mr. Lee so amazing is he was so clean in his playing. Practice slowing down and playing clean and then increase speed keeping clean and accurate. Good start!
Forgot to mention that you've got some good tone, if you can just clean up your playing. I think you'll have it before too long. One of the hardest solos to cover well I think.
Not bad dude...really good in fact. Just a quick "crit"....keep the tempo movin a bit more steady and a tad more rapid...and you've imitated Mr. Lee just FINE! ;)
Thank you, it's good to hear that and yes, I was slowing down at the end. Funny I usually criticize our drummer for slowing down, now I realize I was doing the same lol!
I'll tell you this, it seems as though we always think it sounds good when we play it, but if we have a chance to listen to ourelves... hmm... "yeah I could have done that better" "it's not as clar as it should be".
Not a bad job at all. No bass, no drums, and you kept pretty decent time. Now of course you can't do it as good as all those negative $#@cks,,, like the other guy said. Ignore them. I KNOW they can do better, and I've been looking for THEIR posts,,, but seems I can't find 'em anywhere.... AH HAHAHAHA!!!
Thought it was great . Thats a hard song to figure out. Your demo filled in a bunch of gaps I had. Keep rock'n and @#$%! those negative comments by the douchebag wannabes.
The beginning was terrirble but got better towards the end. You need a really fat tone to play like Alvin Lee. Plus the way he plays so fast and fluid is because he has the volume so high he doesn't need to pick most of the notes, he just hammers and pulls off with his left hand. Keep at it.
Well the beginning needs work, nut ut wasn'T terrible, and I'm not trying to be arrogant. Also, I am pulling off about half the notes, and since I never put the distortion to the maximum, and only had an 8 inch speaker in that amplifier, it's pretty obvious I wasn't gonna have volume amplifying doing much work...
Oh, I didn't learn the song completely, I didn'T have the courage to do that. Plus I don't even have it on tape or CD. I was just winging it by what I remebered. Which is another eason why I get bad comments like "it's not like the original" I know it's now. It's in the same FEEL as the orginal.
there are a couple of other youtubers out there who do it the real way, notable that guy with the sunburst Strat. He's good.
Oh, no tabs. Or very rarely. Once you've listened to guitar stuff and learned by seeing videos of the greats, you begin to know what they do, what the tricks are.
Feel cannot be transcribed, it can only be learnt. Now I am not saying I have the best feel, but I know how to express it. Took me a heck of a long time too!
Nice try...not perfect but who cares?...lol! It takes guts to put up yer chops on youtube. You almost got it tho....just a bit of 'honing' and you'll have it. I'd suggest taking it note for note (using something like Amazing Slow Downer), drop the speed down to 50%, and then build it up. You'd be surprised how fast you'll get it spot on. The trick is to get each note played perfectly slow, then build it up. It's still my all-time fav. guitar solo/intro! Glad to see someone give it a yank! :)
Hey thanks alot buddy, another unjustified critic! How about you put your version up then we'll talk again, I am seriously tired of these comments by people who don't even have the courage to put up their own videos or even tell me why my version is bad.
Thanks alot man, it cheers me up to hear that. even knowing that I could now do better. Some other players on youtube know it way better than I do, but I think they lack the vintage "feel" of playing. Like the style you have when you pull off, or do a bend, when to pick or hammer-on, etc.
Hey Dude...I've been playing guitar for over 35 years and that's a tough song...you did a great job. One of my favorite A. Lee songs. Look forward to seeing some more of your vids...keep the faith...
That's a valiant effort son. I'm Going Home is one of the hardest songs I've ever heard. The sheer pace is daunting enough. That guitar looks like you just got it that day. Still got the plastic film on it.
Well then, thanks. I find sychronizing the pick with the left hand fingering is the toughest part(when playing fast). And fast, that's subjective, I mean, depends on the person. Yup, that Epiphone don't get played too often, I bought it six years ago, and that plastic ain't going nowhere! I might even change the pickguard to keep it intact.
The movements of Alvin's left hand are not very standard for most guitar players, but that what makes his playing sound unique. Lots of fast sliding and string skipping that I'm not really used to. Alvin's rhythm playing is also great.
Sounds really good for an epiphone. I'm looking for 335, but I might just get one of these and swap out the electronics and throw some better tuners on.
This a pretty hard song and i appreciate the effort.if is not perfect and like the original it doesn;t mean you have to be a bitch.

That song should be played as is, otherwise it is better not to, but still so little by little you will do
Sorry but you must listen better, the fingering is very important and give way to the pick, for now just called bullshit that goes home
