  • hey HCBaily what is the diffence between this one and the PS1 version of the games? i just want to know because i am playing the ps1 version but can not see any diffence between the 2 or is that bugs got fixed

  • Come on there is an ad at the beginning AND the end? I can understand one, but two really?

  • I love shad's counters, they are much more common in FFVI Advance

  • That Barrier Ring... I can't believe how near-impossible to find some of these items are. You could play the game 100 times and still miss it.

  • i feel bad now coz i didnt get the 5th element refrence OR the Mr.Shadow refrence :/

  • "Well, that was fun! Who's up for chineese?"

    Joker for the FREAKKIN Win!!

  • It always bugged me that the people of Doma just start dropping dead because the water's poisoned. Was the poison so strong that the smell of it killed them, and it didn't work on Cyan because he's so old his sense of smell is shot?

  • Cyan's wife is face down, and her head is pointing down.

  • You can never trust clowns or jesters. Kefka, The Joker and Dimentio are proof of that

  • I asked my mom if I can open a present early and she told me "wait" so I said "Wait? Do I look like a waiter?"

  • I want a remake of this for the PSP or 3DS so I can see the hilarious expressions on Kefka's face and his voice

  • @peddle1993 A V remake is in order before that though, and it'd likely be on 3DS, following on from the DS remakes of III and IV.

  • but it's food DIE!

  • Somebody poisoned the waterhole!

  • Final Fantasy VI: The game where the villains actually have major successes.

    I love it.

  • @LinkMarioSamus So Golbez gathering all the crystals (Twice by getting the good guys to do the dirty work for him) doesn't count? Or how about when Exodus/Exdeath/X-Death got the Light Warriors to break the seal for him and then killing off a party member (Who was then replaced by his granddaughter)? SHINRA crushing Sector 7 and stealing the Cosmic Keystone? Final Fantasy gives the bad guys major victories often enough.

  • @MigeulP Ack, haven't played any of those yet!

    Still, BIGGER successes...

  • @LinkMarioSamus The only bigger success than those the villains in Final Fantasy VI have is a single event midway through the game that should be as much of a spoiler as Darth Vader being Luke's father at this point. Kefka succeeds in blowing up the world.

  • HC, are your brothers by any chance named HB and HP?

  • theres something in the water!!!!!!! pirahna reference

  • I knew about the barrier ring, though I only found it because I was messing around with a "walk through walls" cheat code and tried to get out to the area you fight with Cyan in from back there and I happened to step on that tile.

  • 7:35. Her head is facing right and one hand is peaking out from under her head. May not help you at all but oh well.

  • This game had balls back in the day for showing the dead body of a small child.

  • The way Cyan talks isn't Old English, he's just being formal because Old English was started by the Anglo-Saxons and is derived from the German Language

  • 4:22 and 7:13

The moments when gamers realised that Kefka wasn't some funny comedy villain but a complete monster.

  • I think it's hilarious how camp this guy sounds when he says 'final fantasy 6!!!!'!!! :D

  • Sabin's Suplex reminds me of Ramenman's ultimate move the Kowloon Drop.

  • 4:30 best evil laugh ever^^

  • "Oh that was fun! Who's up for Chinese?"

That is a line Kefka would SO say!

  • I'm actually very fluent in ye olde English, about 90 times better than mostof the kids at my school.

  • Geez, and I thought reading Chaucer in Middle English was bad!

  • Yeah the dead wife's sprite always bugged me too. I'm guessing it's like FF Tactics where people would be standing up tall on the battlefieled, but when they died they only took up one square, which means they shrunk.

  • Uhhh man :( I wish you would show when you unequiped the old party cause I don't know when to

  • Don't tell me what kind of day to have!

  • btw, Cyans wife is lying face-down like terra in the mine

  • let that be a lesson: Britta Water Filters < Poland Spring Bottled Water

  • O my gawd! I LOVE Kefka & Joker! They are by far my most favorite villainous characters of all time! aww yeah you cant go wrong with insane clownish villains!

  • rofl well played with the clip sir, well played

  • yeah kefka would say bub hear him in dissidia and you will understand

  • I've always wondered: Why was it that everyone except for Cyan and that one sentry drank water at the exact time the water was poisoned?

  • Wipe them out... all of them.

I don't think I've seen Kefka do a melee attack before.

Sentry is just another synonym for a guard.

As fast as the soldiers were poisoned, I always thout the water put off poisoned fumes also.

I take it finding Cyan's family dead "does nothing for you" ... more worried about the treasure and rhyming names :-p

  • I was hoping you would do a princess bride reference when you said he may have built an immunity to poison.

  • Don't drink tap water, it got fluoride!

  • i really like your walkthroughs im jsut watching this cause its fun to hear your narration im already way ahead and im not sure which part it is of your walkthrough of where im on so im jsut watching until u get there

  • lol 4:36

  • It's called a flail!

  • Cyan's wife and child's name rhymes? Your name and brother's name rhymes? Reminds me of an old show called Adventures of Pete and Pete. How's that for confusion?

  • And yet the tap water in Memphis is really good water. :D

  • When I was in Turkey I saw a salt lake with that purple colour (because of the minerals in it). It was weird.

  • I dont know that this is a million times more evil then anything Sephiroth did but it's certainly one of the most evil things done in the Final Fantasy series. Though I doubt Sephiroth would have been apposed to poisoning an entire kingdom. Also, this isnt an entirely unique situation, you have to give credit to the Emperor from FF2, who poisoned the drinking supply of an opposing kingdoms wyverns. Kefka just took it a step further :P

  • Cyan and the Doma Sentry had their Star Pendants on that's why they didn't get poisoned :)

  • "This deed of Kefka alone is a million "imes more evil than anything Sephiroth did during FFVII."

You don't count Sephiroth trying to destroy the entire planet just because he wanted power as more evil than what Kefka did here?

  • Sephiroth failed

  • Coulda equipped Shadow with the Ribbon, that woulda gotten rid off it too.

  • ill give you a little TIP!get the POINT!

  • ha, played this part in the japanese version last night, he still asks if he looks like a waiter

  • Really? Does that play-on-words even work in Japanese, or was there English mixed in?

  • guys beserk doesnt increase stats like in a couple other FF's

  • Its her dog and her, the dog is lying on top of her

  • dont drink the water?

    are you in MEXICO?

    i was just there!

  • My name is Max, and my brothers name is Matt, that's worse than just having them rhyme. My mom still screws our names up. And it's been over 16 years.

  • i was like wtf near the end cuz i just saw shadow leave... i wasn't payin attention

  • HCBailly: Don't forget..you can stack up on Potions by defeating that M Tek Armor repeatedly when you first enter the base..

  • LOL! I don't know if you realize it Bailly, but that Joker scene actually complimented your Star Wars references since The Joker was voiced by Mark Hamill.

  • Old English is like Shakespear Shakespear is early modern english!

Old English is the original Beowulf

  • your name rhymes with something that starts with a J? im gonna figure it out!

  • but isnt Berserk a good thing?

why would you want to protect him from it?

  • Sabin's Blitzes are far more powerful than his physical attack, even if he were in the front row.

  • Berserk makes you only use your physical attack.

  • oh thanks!

  • @HCBailly IT SUCKS! Berserk has killed me MANY TIMES!!!

  • I agree... Beserk is a good think unless for some reason your party is low on HP and everyone is beserked. That may be a problem..

  • @darthvaderyoda berserk was shanged to only physical after FF2J also there is an alternative to the old berserk it is called Aura (Aura in FF8 is not the same as aura in other final fantasies)

  • @HCBailly Cyan didn't get poison cause he had a Star Pendent on him.

  • This deed of Kefka alone is a million times more evil than anything Sephiroth did during FFVII. That's why I like Kefka, he is truly one twisted motherfucker, he makes me want to hate him and the things that he did and will do during this LP-series are almost as unforgivable as the stuff that Mother Brain did at the end of Super Metroid (R.I.P Baby Metroid).

  • They're both cool. They did their own blend of evil things in their own worlds that caused destruction and chaos. A true FF fan would like every villain in the series.

  • Yeah, in w way, you're right. Each villain has his or her... or ITS own unique evil. Kefka, in my opinion, was better as far as point blank evil goes. Sephiroth, on the other hand, was better if story wise, seeing as how they barely explian anything about Kefka.

  • IIRC Kefka is the way he is, as a result of experiments conducted on him. They didn't work out quite right on him, and he basically went insane. Trying to be vague to avoid big spoilers. :X

  • English without any vowels is Welsh btw ;)

  • Ah, you mean a flail. Thanks to Kill Bill, I can still understand... completely useless information.

  • y'know, cyan's name is supposed to be a joke. because his family dies from poison they named him cyan after cyanide

  • Everyone thought Cyan was wasting money on bottled water. I guess he had the last laugh.

  • Cyan is hilarious when he's trying to use technology!

  • Old english ? huh

    Long scenario? huh

  • Cyan: For someone who to me is the ultimate symbol of masculinity and who I personally see my self as trying to be like, the name "Cyan" sounds kind of feminine, don't you think??

  • Iocaine. I'd bet my life on it.

  • Mace.. Morning Star.. IT'S A FLAIL HC! FLAIL!

  • LOL that clip @ 4:36 made me realize the Joker and Kefka are pretty similar. How did I not see that til now?

  • this part of the game is gonna take three parts and at most five

  • After having followed nearly all of HC's LP's, I decided to play along with him this time and go through everything at his pace. I do use the Advance version though, maybe only because of the special dungeon at the end.

I have to say, I am really enjoying it so far. Just a bit unsatisfied by the lack of pure mages (there are none in this party...)

  • No Joker can ever beat Kefka, mostly 'cos Joker acually has some brains to use. As for Keka, don't ask him if he's out-of-his-mind, cos he *is*, completely.

  • A ninja and his dog, not much beats that. Doesn't help the bad guys later when that ninja gets magic.

  • He actually has a flail.

  • Kefka doesn´t have any problems covering his cowardice with funny jokes cause he´s awesome like that. Too awesome to even join your party seeing how you didn´t get to name him.

FFIV: The After Years has the same animation you mention.

  • This... is.... POISON!

  • Funny and annoying at the same time... Kefka being "ouch!" lol

  • Coming up on one of my fav areas, a certain thing on rails. One thing about that place. You know that ghost that are around and say no escape? have you noticed that they have dots in between each letter? They are spelling N.O. E.S.C.A.P.E. What does that stand for? Me freinds used to shout those letters at each other.

  • Read it as a zombie would: "Nooooo escaaaaaaape!"

  • I knew about the Barrier Ring, but only recently 'cause of a walkthrough.

"Don't Drink The Water", like the Dave Matthews Band song. Allright! Their new album is pretty amazing.

  • Knights of the Templar

  • SPOILER

It has to do with the statues!

  • Apparently EVERYONE drinks the water at the SAME time and there is no stored water. so just right outta the river!

and they tried to burn it down, but cyan isnt a coward like edgar and beat them back.

Also...no idea about the mr.shadow reference...

  • She's fallen face down from the chair with her hair splayed about: her hair is the lower half of the sprite.

  • what a toad... : p

  • i was kinda expecting a princess bride scene with the immunity to the poison

  • "Wait, he says... Do I look like a waiter?" Ahh, one of the most classic lines. EVER! Well, Kefka doesn't play around. No boasting about his plans, no standing around waiting for the heroes to interrupt, no diappearing for hours on end. Just, let's poison these people and get it over with. Truly heinous, Kefka. Still, it would take A LOT of poison to make the river water instantly fatal. Maybe a little video game logic at work here?

  • And who can forget the classic "Son of a submariner!" XD

  • For the longest time I thought Shadow was a black guy because of how his sprite works. Then I realized what was what with his mask and it's kinda hard for me to get use to it @.@

  • Actually, he just might be black. That would be awesome if he is because he is smart, strong, and great with weapons. Heck, I'd say he should be THE main character.

  • Shadow: Calm and cool...

  • Dont drink the water, they put something in it to make you forget...

    XD

  • I love the part when Cyan was in between the wall and tent. Its always been my one of my favorite moments.

  • Flail/morning star disccussion, sorry Hc... you started it by saying mace... mace is a ball on a stick lol.

  • hahaha..i think you read my post about the MGS thing, nice.

  • I had no idea that Barrier Ring was there, either..as I thought it would, this LP is showing me things about a game I thought I knew just about everything about..but I don't mind.

The poisoning of Doma might be one of the most heinous acts committed in any video game.

  • The poisoning of Doma is one of the many atrocities commited in FFVI by your arch-enemy, KEFKA

  • Definitely, but this one stands out as it's the first big hint that this guy isn't like any other villain you might have faced to this point..

  • The set-the-castle-on-fire idea could have worked if they managed to set a grease fire.

water + grease fire = BUUURRRN BABY BURN!!

  • Disco Inferno!!!! LOL

  • A mace is just a stick with a ball on the end; a morning star has a chain.

  • I think the poison is air based, but activates when combined with water, so thats what could of killed them, since those guards were the closest to the water. Maybe they should of gotten some antidotes?

  • HCBailly and JBBailly with rhyming first names? Harry and Jerry? Am I right?

  • "A cherry" was a funny scene that gave flavor to the priest. Mr. Shadow was just not quite as memorable.

  • Another good title for the episode would be "Don't anger the waiter".He might do something to your food or drink.

  • That's what freaks Cyan out when Sabin eats out on the Phantom Train

  • I love the music when Kefka is poisoning the water!

  • Already have a sore head from bashing it for not knowing about the genji glove and ribbon in the early game...now a barrier ring too? Keep up the entertaining fun stuff, sir :)

  • Hmm... I never knew that Barrier Ring was a secret to so many people; I found it on my first time through the game in 1995. But I didn't know about the scene you showed us when you take Sabin back to South Figaro, or that the Rune Edge in Narshe upgrades.

  • I thought it was that when the poison was mixed with water that it was rendered vapor and created a deadly fog.

  • I think this is the first Final Fantasy game where anyone would actually hate the villain, and I do mean hate.

  • Why is it you always get treasure that I have no idea about :(

Anyhoo think Elayine fell towards the screen and since she had such long hair it covered her face.

  • Was the MGS reference intended when you said "Uh-oh,what was that noise?"in the previous episode? Why did you prolong the laugh? It shouldn't be so loud too. They would have used a special sprite animation if Kefka was laughing like that.

  • Believe it's pronounced [ Kye-an ], but irrelevant.

  • The word Cyan is a kind of blue, similiar to copper green and is pronounced Sy-An. Its one of the few FF names that isn't argued very much because it's an actual word.

  • If you read the Kana, it is more like Kye-An.

  • Yeah, the color itself is pronounced Kye-An. I used to pronounce it "sye-an" but then I found it it was pronounced how I said now.

  • Funny.

The color is pronounched like SIGH-ann or SIGH-uhn. The original character's name is pronounced like KYE-ehn, and it was supposed to be "Cayenne" ("Cyan" was used by Ted Woolsey because of the six-letter limit).

So use whichever pronounciation you want for the character, but if you use a hard k sound for the color, everybody will think you're talking about spicy red peppers.

  • Food dye? More like food DIE!

  • Once again, my guide fails to mention about the barrier ring...I forgot about it too, but I remember now...Thanks HC...

Kind of wierd that everyone except Cyan and that guard drank the water after it was poisoned...I wonder what Cyan drinks then...

    "Beer"

    Oh...

  • 0:22 - Kefka is Wolverine?

0:39 - Ahh that line never gets old.

4:26 to 7:48 proves why Kefka is the best FF villain ever, he's so evil and twisted.

  • FLAIL!!!

  • Those templar are actually really awesome for that feral friend you keep referencing :P

  • Wow, your Final Fantasy LPs have revealed so much I didn't know.

  • Holy... didn't knew about that Barrier ring. XD

  • Good job, HC. =]

  • Hey, your Kefka laugh is getting better.

My brothers and I have fairly different sounding names and yet we still get confused, it doesn't help that we look pretty similar and have remarkably similar voices and almost identical laughs.

  • I meant *post* a Joker clip in that last comment.

  • It's really interesting, with all the Star Wars references in this LP that you'd joke a Joker clip...because in the animated series, the Joker was voiced by Luke Skywalker himself, Mark Hamill. :-D

Pretty badass team right now with Sabin, Cyan and Shadow. I wouldn't want to be the Imperial soldiers.

  • I've actually been rewatching Batman: The animated series on DVD this past week. I remember being surprised when I heard that about Mark Hamill last weekend. Never would have guessed in a million years.

Great, classic series though. Batman: The Animated Series is the FFVI of cartoons.

  • If FFVI was ever adapted to animation, Mark Hamill would be amazing as Kefka.

  • You're too late, HCBailly. Your friends have failed. Now witness the firepower of this fully armed and operational poisoned water supply!

  • Kefka is using a flail.

  • Depends, thee has been a lot of food products boasting about their "No artificial colours" lately. There must be something bad about iot or why would it matter?

  • The way Cyan speaks is actually Early Modern English. But it's really only the use of thou (and conjugating verbs that follow it appropriately), which is still sometimes heard in normal speech.

Old English is, for the most part, unintelligible to English speakers.

  • purple koolade *drinks Bleh! it's bitter! MURDER! MURDER!

  • Actually the morning star is kind of a symbolic weapon for Kefka. I cannot say why due to reasons for spoilers.

  • REALLY Old English just looks like another language. Beowulf looks like its in German or something.

  • I think (in reference to the Fifth Element stuff) that people remember the cherry scene more because it was funny (with the silly string plucking music) than Mr. Shadow, because Mr. Shadow was just FREAKY.

  • Interceptor > Angelo.

  • Flail?

  • IC WAT U DID THERE!

  • I heard that Kefka's waiter line was actually in the original script instead of something Woolsey came up with.

  • Yes and no. The line captures the meaning (insofar as making it clear that Kefka has no intention of waiting), but the pun does not exist in Japanese, of course. I assure you that the original Japanese line could not be construed in any sense to refer to someone who works in a restaurant.

  • Shadow must be FFVI's chuck norris...

  • A mace is fixed, a morning star is the one with a chain?

  • Flails have chains. Morning stars are clubs with a rounded and spiked end, maces are like clubs with various types of heads.

  • Specifically, a Morning Star has real spikes on it - not the little bumps that some mace heads have.

  • Its not a mace or a morning star. It's a flail.

  • I don't know what Mr. Shadow is.

  • Apparently, it's German for twinkle. Maybe the light blinds them.
