I'd actually be surprised if more directors didn't start putting their own movies in their favorite films lists. Artists can be so masochistic, constantly feeling that they're "not worthy" to be put on lists with other directors. One should feel proud of their work at the end of the day, otherwise why keep doing it? After all, it's all subjective anyway. There's no such thing as a "greatest ever" when it comes to art.
John Woo rules and I support any list that includes lawrence of arabia, the wild bunch, the godfather, and seven samurai. I usually hate it when people include their own films but it's usually for a film coming out soon or in theaters so including face off doesn't bother me at all.
John Woo is my favorite filmmaker, but strictly because of his Hongkong creator period. He's a very sympatic fellow for me, he never reacts angry and always stays balanced. The Seven Samurai, as his all-time favorite is not a surprise, he tells in many interviews how Kurosawa's hero-ethos influenced him, it's enought to watch The Killer. Adding Face/Off (the only one fine Woo-work in the States) is not self-glamorizing, he just expresses that he finally hadn't have to adapt someone else's style.
yeah seven samurai lol do you guys remember that really clumsy samurai that really sucks but ends up surviving through all sorts of mayhem lol the very first JarJar haha

How is it "retarded" to have difficulty with a thick immigrant accent?, irai? Not all of us have your "gift" for deciphering such things.

Are you allowed to put your own movie in your Top 5?
jkshrout131 6 months ago
John Woo could put a peanut butter and jelly sandwich in his Top 5 and I would be ok with it.

@jkshrout131 yes.

why the fuck are they using subtitles here, you can understand what he is saying perfectly
CoyoteSnider 1 year ago 3
@CoyoteSnider because some people can understand as well because English isn't their main language and they didn't want someone to get confuse

I think it's a bit rude to put subtitles for John Woo. You'd have to be pretty retarded not to be able to understand him.

@irai1984
Even the fact that they were able to write subtitles shows that they could understand him.
DontTouchMyVicodin 1 year ago
@irai1984 Or simply have difficulty deciphering a thick accent. Would it be better for us not to be able to understand what the man is saying?
SuperTonyony 3 months ago
@SuperTonyony If his english was good enough to direct several films in the US, then perhaps you need to practice listening.

That was pretty gangstah that he picked his own film in the TOP 5.

My Top 5 Films at the moment
1. Ikiru (Kurusawa's most human film)
2. Le Samourai (a Alain Delon masterpiece and Woo's inspiration for THE KILLER)
3. Stalker (Andrej Tarkowsky's film is a philosophical monument...)
4. The roaring 20's (love James Cagney and a epic picture of the 1920s)
5. Malcolm X (Spike Lee's most epic film and denzels best performance)
