super excited to play this for the second time in my life this semester! Euphoniums unite?? more like brass unite lol (Spoken like a true french horn player!) :D
We're playing this right now in our Wind Ensemble, I'm a percussionist, and I absolutely love my part and when I have rests, I LOVE to just sit there and listen.

I feel Like in the 3rd movement the neglect the the point of the title which is the blacksmith, it was still well performed, but i love to hear versions with a real strong anvil sound.
@ZephImmortal Holst wrote this Suite first in 1911, then later went back and re-scored part of the last movement to use in his St. Paul's Suite (1912).
i might possibly be playing this piece and for the level our band is at we sound really good expecially our euponium player :) i just love this piece!
QYO is playing this! A.M.A.Z.I.N.G!

Maybe it was just the auditorium but the Euphonium solo sounded a bit too legato-ee. Not bad but different from what I've heard.
skwaag5233 1 month ago
@skwaag5233 It's written that way but usually to make it sound more exciting they add articulation to the pick-ups of each phrase.

1st chair euphonium! :d Except I play the solo less legato, haha.

I played this song my freshman year for Wind Ensemble. It's pretty awesome. And at 7:50 I know I didn't crack the note. (french horn player)

to be honest, the euphonium solo wasn't as perfect as a tokyo kosei one should be.

Lmao, anyone else hear the St. Paul's Suite at about 8:20 ? Haha, band has their own suites, leave Paul's to us string players!
