@ravingdave900 this isn't practicing "fighting", its training in lines, body mechanics, sensitivity etc. that can lead to you to become a good fighter. there's a lot going on there that you won't see if you don't train in wing chun. on the contrary, wing chun is as helpful as any other system for the streets. the only problem is that it takes a couple of years intensive training to go beyond "beginner" stage, unlike other systems that giv u "crash courses".
@oc00011 wing chun also makes false statements which defy physics and teach impractical solutions to modern day street fights. they dont account for friends who may jump in, risk assessment, the chain punching i have seen fail to do any damage countless times. a lot of it is real bullshit and just because the masters say that X technique will lead to X outcome doesnt mean it is true. martial arts should be looked at with a very open mind.
@oc00011 but you are right that other martial arts yield faster results. i question aspects of all martial arts though i dont mean to just criticize only wing chun. i think tkd is far worse in fact because their guard is so poor.
@ravingdave900 fair enough, its good to have an open mind. i don't agree with u about the multiple opponents, risk assessment, or chain punching. 1 single punch out of a chain of 'chain punching', when applied with correct body mechanics, can have devastating results, i've seen it. both risk assessment etc. can mostly be summarised in wing chun's foundation in efficiency i.e. fastest, most direct, & least energy-draining path to ur opponent or opponents - both in defence & offence.
@oc00011 i guess at the end of the day its just personal preference. i personally like the more 'modern' systems around such as /watch?v=IFv1y4b0S9Y&feature=channel_video_title
because i feel they are easier to learn for the average person and get you accustomed to the stress of a real situation. but at the end of the day if you enjoy what you learn then its all good.
@ravingdave900 its been a while since i talked with a normal, intelligent, mentally-balanced person here on Utube. ur not fanatical or anything, nice. lol yeh that's cool i get your point. i don't particularly understand the arguments of 'that MA is better than this MA', for me its like saying spanish is better than french. but u can, absolutely, be critical of any system, & also recognise their strengths, contained in that context. &WC is't easy/fast 2 learn for sure. anyways, good talkin to ya
@ravingdave900 er...... thats because its Chi Sau. Chi Sau is sensitivity training. You have made yourself look a little foolish with your naive comments.
@ravingdave900 nice open mindedness...go learn about chi sao, this isnt fighting.Every MA helps you improve your senses, which will always help you in the street.
Sifu Rawcliffe is a show off! Sifu Ip Chun's intention looks not to take the strikes but only show he can create the openings required... Where as Sifu Rawcliffe breaks contact lots! More like sparring and less like sticky hands.
I got here looking for mma videos, but really all martial arts are interesting. JJ is prominent in mma, as is boxing, and wrestling. This MA seems to be close quarter hand to hand combat. I like it nonetheless.
Who would be proud of '' winning '' against, if i am correct, 84 years old person? Where is the pride? Now thouch hands, listen and practice ok i would understand.
The sensitivity aspects of these two masters are very good. It is obvious that both had alittle ego to shed off as they both used alot of force on force defense in an unrelaxed manner. You can tell because their shoulders were tight and hips and feet dn move together at times. This added to the realism of the exercise as neither really knew the others movements. MMA guys are starting to use the Wooden Dummy for insidework. Silat guys would prove very good opponents for Wing Chun adepts.
I would have loved to have seen them use their feet in this chi sao demonstration. Conditioning wise the demonstration is awesome. I saw very little circular movement when they were in a locked position. Very little shoulder or knee defenses and offenses and it would have been nice to see hoWing Chun Masters execute these basic techniques. I have heard that Donnie Yen added his own knowledge to his wing chun role.I know why. Donnie's style is more internal: Sunken, Circular. Illusive. Thanks.
Externals don´t understand chi sao. Most people always interprete such basic technique demonstrations as fighting demonstrations and are completely wrong with this assumption. An advice for those, practise martial arts or systems like wing chun.THEN you will understand the efficiency behind such techniques :)
Yes it's just a demo- cause you ONLY see WT demos, never real fight! WT guys don't fight MMA cause they would be taken to the ground in 5 seconds- not because WT is so "deadly". WT was a great martial art until it was considered something to make a load of money with it!
@digitalesnegativ Well you're half right at least. Wing Chun works in a real fight, but an MMA fighter also works in a real fight. The only difference is that most WC guys don't go to war everyday on their body. MMA guys are fighters first Martial artists second, which means mentally they are better prepared for fights. And WC doesn't go to the ground where in MMA, BJJ is a necessity and in my opinion the best martial art in the world. So yes you are right but WC is legit for what it is.
@88stando Agreed, it is not easy to find a master. I do think however that MMA prepares people better for actual fight situations and definitely a lot quicker then Wing Chun. Masters of any style typically are masters for a reason and a lot of MMA guys were masters in other arts before MMA. So it does depend on the person first, not the style. As far as the style goes, I love Wing Chun.
@digitalesnegativ Oh I also have a vid I can share with you if you want of a WC guy just decimating this huge guy. It is hilarious. The only real street fight with WC I have found but trust me, Wing Chun is one of the very few Kung Fu that actually works.
@digitalesnegativ Dont forget MMA is ALSO a big fad and making lots of money as well. They would get taken to the ground in 5 secs? You know that for sure? I practice MMA myself and it's what I use the most. But remember even the top MMA guys are only human and don't just take other trained MAists down that easily.
Chinese martial arts is not about Self Defense if thats what you think it
is well your seeking something else, Chinese martial arts is about spirit and Character, you people are unwise and unsettled, ignorant you people are.
@Lukass12 yeah, i'll probably do a double leg takedown on you and choke you from the front:):) shaolin kung fu can be dangerous, but the video clip up there is Chi Sao, it's totally harmless once both opponents end up on the ground... he can still do these movements, but then it's not much difference from having a seizure.
@26qbo If you truely think that, you have no knowledge or anything about Wing Chun, the old man is Grandmaster IP-man.. world's most famous Wing Chun artist, Teacher of Bruce Lee, i bet he would even kick your ass even tho he was 84 years old on that video. I want to see you doing all that stuff when you are 84, if you even get to that age.
OT: Grandmaster IP You're truely my biggest inspiration, may u rest in peace.
this isn't as much of a "fight". Much of Wing Chun is about close physical contact i.e. trying to parry your opponent's moves, and that's how they train, by responding to the position of the opponent's arms. I'd say Wing Chun is actually more of a defensive martial art, rather than offensive. But of course, it can be deadly in offence as they try to attack the opponent's point of weaknesses. Also notice, they don't stand sideways, it's square on.
@fairuzkun- Chi Sao would take about a year or maybe a little longer. You must first know Don Chi Sao, then sticky hands, then Double rolling there are alot of diferent levels . Wing Chun is very effective. Most of it is hands we still use our feet and shift as well but it is mostly hands an close combat. I am so glad I am in training
@wingchisao- Do you even take WingChun Classes? I mean I am just starting Don Chi Sao which is only 1 hand and I have not got into the Sticky Hands or double rolling yet but I do know Chi Sao involves all of those.
@mtdunaway Some of the best fighters are the ones who have previous knowledge and experience in another art. That extra knowledge tends to give an advantage in actual combat, most mma guys nowadays forget that and just wanna learn a little bit of this and alittle bit of that.
@hardfugoo1 I agree. A foundation in one art, with a complete training regimen is much better than any training that only gives you pieces of each art.
What is with all the UFC/MMA fanboy dicks going to every martial arts video and getting elitist? You're talking about a sport based concept... Primarily a brute force one at that. Any good martial art like Wing Chun would win 9/10 times because it's redirection of inertia followed by striking. Where as brute force is only useful against other brute force.
Most likely he is trying to do just that, but if you start at that position especially it's actually very difficult. You're blocked from the start, and from there it's much easier to tell what's gonna happen next when compared to a real fight.
For those of you saying this style isn't a "fighting style," you're right. It is meant more for self defense, and it still reigns superior to your ignorant incoherent words, so feel free to shut up with all of the MMA crap. If you put an individual equal to the original Ip Man in the cage with an MMA pro, he would dominate. He masters fighting styles and he only used it for self defense, those cocky pricks you call fighting professionals wouldn't do a thing to a real fighter.
For the people that just don't understand, I'll simplify it. Wing Chun's Chi Sao training is tantamount to Jiu jitsu's rolling. Without rolling for hours and hours a week in Jiu jitsu, you just will not get good at trapping. Trapping is the key word here. Randy Couture works on 3-4 rounds on Shadow sparring with a partner (No Contact), Shadow boxing for 4-5 rounds. That's 7-9 rounds without contact! Also, 8-10 rounds of Mitt work, Submission drills - 40 minutes. But who is Randy Conture anyway?
It still looks like a game of patty cake. This is what happens when you stick with traditional style of Wing Chun. Utter uselessness in defeating the "fighters of today".
@MichaelLeroi My two theories on people who believe in secret martial arts are: wing chun, shotokan , tkd, etc First, emotionally, they are still eleven years old and need the magic. Or, by admitting that the top rungs of martial arts are impossible to reach, they relieve themselves of responsibility when they fail to reach that level.
This is called sticky hands drill. It develops cooridanation and sensitivity in your upper body and is crucial for any fighter that hopes to block and strike effectively
To me this looks pointless and inaffective....but then again what do i know. I do jiu-jitsu and I'm sure people that dont understand it look at it and think the same thing
@dudster2 This isn't how Wing Chun fights go. This is a training drill designed to aid blocking. The point is, when you move one hand, you open up striking areas on your own body. Chi Sau teaches you to gaurd and learn to move to cover those areas. It also teaches you where the opponents arms are likely to be and how to control, manipulate and strike through them.
if some1 tryed to do that to me i would knock them out that stuf is purely for demonstrations like what we just wached its useles tell me 1 full contact fight where youv seen them fight like that?
Most of you act like MMA fighters only fight one way! Wing Chun is a form of Chinese Boxing. With that being stated, you don't see a lot of the greats in the MMA world, trying to win every fight with just boxing. They utilize their different skills for different opponents. Each style has it's own merits. If you don't understand that, then you are just plain ignorant to the art of fighting.
@mtdunaway I agree with you. people just like more of the brutal fights like street fighting. They don't understand that Wing Chun or martial art is not use in a sport match like ufc, mma or pride when it's use in real life situation of self defense. A lot of the martial art styles are banned out of ufc, mma or pride because the styles use deadly moves which cage and arena match have rules. But I am glad you understand the meaning art of fighting.
@LAHrebirth utilising different skills for different opponent is a obvious given, but doesn't necessary mean you have to comprimise your style or your know how, to you its nothing more then fighting methods, to us chinese its our culture and our heritage, don't bastardise it with MMA and UFC shit
in the old days you thought boxing was good, japs beat you with judo and karate, you learn it, and got cocky, bruce beat you with kungfu, now you have gone cocky again with UFC AND MMA
@LAHrebirth I called it a "form of Chinese Boxing" not boxing. Although, Wing Chun punches do closely resemble the way the old bare knuckle fighters would punch. Just look at Moy Yot or Wong Shun Leung. It's important, if you punch someone like a boxer does, without wearing gloves, your knuckles do not make contact first and the puncher runs a higher rick of a hand injury. That is one main difference to punching when it comes to street fights and organized fights.
@LAHrebirth And as far as white people never heard of the concept of kung fu in the 60's or 70's is just hilarious. Obviously you need to brush up on your on knowledge of different martial arts and the people that are well known for their achievements in the world of martial arts. I suggest you read The Power of Internal Martial Arts: Combat Secrets of Ba Gua, Tai Chi, and Hsing-I . He's seems to be white but yet has a lot of knowledge, hmmm, weird. Also, about the 'ADAPT', that's obvious!
@mtdunaway Some of the best fighters are the ones who have previous knowledge and experience in another art. That extra knowledge tends to give an advantage in actual combat, most mma guys nowadays forget that.

@mtdunaway good said man. There is no best methods, it depends on how you use it. All the forms are being well -designed. So its really about experiences, practise and your knowledge about your opponents and yourself.
you have just witnessed the best handshake ever

@mtdunaway Some of the best fighters are the ones who have previous knowledge and experience in another art. That extra knowledge tends to give an advantage in actual combat, most mma guys nowadays forget that and just wanna learn a little bit of this and alittle bit of that.
hardfugoo1 5 months ago
@hardfugoo1 I agree. A foundation in one art, with a complete training regimen is much better than any training that only gives you pieces of each art.

@wingchisao being a jack of all trades and master of none fighting arts is useless.

What is with all the UFC/MMA fanboy dicks going to every martial arts video and getting elitist? You're talking about a sport based concept... Primarily a brute force one at that. Any good martial art like Wing Chun would win 9/10 times because it's redirection of inertia followed by striking. Where as brute force is only useful against other brute force.

his father would be soooo pissed lol
RGmaestro 5 months ago
Most likely he is trying to do just that, but if you start at that position especially it's actually very difficult. You're blocked from the start, and from there it's much easier to tell what's gonna happen next when compared to a real fight.

Its amazing how Grandmaster Ip Chun is able to move very swiftly and still live to be the master he still is today
Derrick021594 6 months ago
For those of you saying this style isn't a "fighting style," you're right. It is meant more for self defense, and it still reigns superior to your ignorant incoherent words, so feel free to shut up with all of the MMA crap. If you put an individual equal to the original Ip Man in the cage with an MMA pro, he would dominate. He masters fighting styles and he only used it for self defense, those cocky pricks you call fighting professionals wouldn't do a thing to a real fighter.

what the hell is this? this is crap compare to western boxing, they'd kick these peoples ass even when they're young

Isnt Ip Chun Ip Man's grandson? Ip Ching is Ip Man's son.
EY81695 6 months ago
For the people that just don't understand, I'll simplify it. Wing Chun's Chi Sao training is tantamount to Jiu jitsu's rolling. Without rolling for hours and hours a week in Jiu jitsu, you just will not get good at trapping. Trapping is the key word here. Randy Couture works on 3-4 rounds on Shadow sparring with a partner (No Contact), Shadow boxing for 4-5 rounds. That's 7-9 rounds without contact! Also, 8-10 rounds of Mitt work, Submission drills - 40 minutes. But who is Randy Conture anyway?
mtdunaway 6 months ago
It still looks like a game of patty cake. This is what happens when you stick with traditional style of Wing Chun. Utter uselessness in defeating the "fighters of today".

@MichaelLeroi My two theories on people who believe in secret martial arts are: wing chun, shotokan , tkd, etc First, emotionally, they are still eleven years old and need the magic. Or, by admitting that the top rungs of martial arts are impossible to reach, they relieve themselves of responsibility when they fail to reach that level.
Freestyleartclub 6 months ago
@Freestyleartclub You say that because you never fight one of then or even been in the same place. How ignorant can be a person, I'll never know.

dudster2 6 months ago
@dudster2 This isn't how Wing Chun fights go. This is a training drill designed to aid blocking. The point is, when you move one hand, you open up striking areas on your own body. Chi Sau teaches you to gaurd and learn to move to cover those areas. It also teaches you where the opponents arms are likely to be and how to control, manipulate and strike through them.
ickleoli 6 months ago
@ickleoli It also teaches you how to get your ass kicked in the cage ..............POWER UP ITS CHI TIME
GoatSoup77 6 months ago
@GoatSoup77 In your world, do all fights happen in a cage? It's not all about cages and MMA. There's more out there.

Most of you act like MMA fighters only fight one way! Wing Chun is a form of Chinese Boxing. With that being stated, you don't see a lot of the greats in the MMA world, trying to win every fight with just boxing. They utilize their different skills for different opponents. Each style has it's own merits. If you don't understand that, then you are just plain ignorant to the art of fighting.
mtdunaway 7 months ago 54
@mtdunaway I agree with you. people just like more of the brutal fights like street fighting. They don't understand that Wing Chun or martial art is not use in a sport match like ufc, mma or pride when it's use in real life situation of self defense. A lot of the martial art styles are banned out of ufc, mma or pride because the styles use deadly moves which cage and arena match have rules. But I am glad you understand the meaning art of fighting.

If you don't understand that fighting changes when you put on gloves and create rules, then you are just plain ignorant.

LAHrebirth 5 months ago
@mtdunaway first of all don't call it boxing, white people called it boxing as they had never heard of the concept of kungfu in the 60=70s
btw 'tin ha mo goung chut seew lum' all martial arts originated in shaolin......more specifically in china
chinese been doing it for thousands of years before you idiots knew what fisty cuffs was
finally you sound ignorant to martial arts in general and fighting, a person must ADAPT to the opponent utliising his or her own style
LAHrebirth 5 months ago
@LAHrebirth I called it a "form of Chinese Boxing" not boxing. Although, Wing Chun punches do closely resemble the way the old bare knuckle fighters would punch. Just look at Moy Yot or Wong Shun Leung. It's important, if you punch someone like a boxer does, without wearing gloves, your knuckles do not make contact first and the puncher runs a higher rick of a hand injury. That is one main difference to punching when it comes to street fights and organized fights.
mtdunaway 5 months ago
@LAHrebirth And as far as white people never heard of the concept of kung fu in the 60's or 70's is just hilarious. Obviously you need to brush up on your on knowledge of different martial arts and the people that are well known for their achievements in the world of martial arts. I suggest you read The Power of Internal Martial Arts: Combat Secrets of Ba Gua, Tai Chi, and Hsing-I . He's seems to be white but yet has a lot of knowledge, hmmm, weird. Also, about the 'ADAPT', that's obvious!

@mtdunaway good said man. There is no best methods, it depends on how you use it. All the forms are being well -designed. So its really about experiences, practise and your knowledge about your opponents and yourself.
