Business is bad in Miami/Ft Lauderdale. Work for a small IT company who services remote/local clients. If your not making the company money, your getting fired. The web developer was fired this week because companys are scaling back on web design projects. The receptionist was fired at a local clients office. One of our used car dealerships has had the worst month since they've been in business. Crime is up, gun sales are up, its going to be like "cocaine cowboys" next year.
If we look around, we can see signs all over the place, even in areas where higher wealth hasn't noticed. It's just a matter of time before all heck breaks loose, and when it does, it will happen so fast, people will be spinning.

I think gold is your safer bet. Silver doesn't seem to hold value like gold does. VV also suggests having currency from other more stable countries because in times of need the government can seize your gold. This is only for worst case scenarios in my opinion. And since the general population (i.e. consumers that control our economy) get their info from CNN/FOX I doubt any worst case scenarios will be played out.
If the mainstream media showed what was really going on there would be widespread chaos. I think they show just enough to keep their ratings up with fear but not enough to cause panic.

Things are fine in Canada our banks are strong with the exception of CIBC. The problem is however if the USD goes into hyperinflation the Canadian banks will go broke or the Bank of Canada will if the banks pushed the USD to our Central bank.

Here on the Big Island of Hawaii we have had many lay-offs in the construction and hotel industry. This has affected some members of my family, including myself. We have a massive job shortage here leaving it very difficult to find a job. The stores here still remain open but, have raised prices. In my community, emphasis has been put on planting gardens. Future looks scary.

House prices are holding steady, very few forclosures (our local banks are reasonably responsible), unemployment appears steady, a few box stores are closing (a good thing !) - more people gardening and hunting (hey it's Vermont) - I do know that the credit market has affected funding for the state colleges - also, auto sales are hurting here..
One of the reasons home prices can appear to hold steady in some areas is because inventory isn't selling. Vermont is also in its own little world. ;)

Business is bad in Miami/Ft Lauderdale. Work for a small IT company who services remote/local clients. If your not making the company money, your getting fired. The web developer was fired this week because companys are scaling back on web design projects. The receptionist was fired at a local clients office. One of our used car dealerships has had the worst month since they've been in business. Crime is up, gun sales are up, its going to be like "cocaine cowboys" next year.

I think gold is your safer bet. Silver doesn't seem to hold value like gold does. VV also suggests having currency from other more stable countries because in times of need the government can seize your gold. This is only for worst case scenarios in my opinion. And since the general population (i.e. consumers that control our economy) get their info from CNN/FOX I doubt any worst case scenarios will be played out.

I live in the UK and the Bank of England cut its base rate by 1.5% to 3%, if that is not a sign of desperation I don't know what is. I am convinced very bad data will soon be released detailing as to why the Boe had to take such a drastic measure. In a nutshell we have spent well beyond our means, and you don't get something for nothing.

Deflation may not happen, as all the money thats borrowed into excistinance is still around, except the over 100k fdic bank deposit insurance in the early part.Every person who borrows money for a car, then defaults. I'm in Oklahoma. The economy here is pretty steady. I think mostly because we're not so much a consumer based population as most states. Energy, crops and labor are pretty big exports here. For all you reading this I wouldn't recommend moving here though. We dernt take too kindly too straaangers here.

At the same time they, like Schiff, Kaiser and Roubini say we are headed for a bust. I am a bit confused by the contradictions. Maybe I am just misinterpreting them. I don't know much about Atlanta, GA, lewis831, but I'm a single mom too, not making a whole lot more than you. Stock up on water, food, batteries, paper goods, hygiene supplies, med supplies, etc. as best you can. I know it's hard but try dollar stores, thrift stores, discount stores, watch for sales. Cut down on what you do use. Save what you can, even if change, have a garage sale... hope this helps any.

I had to write in Chuck Baldwin and a mix of libertarians and republicans. (Republicans ran unopposed for 7 elected positions...UNOPPOSED!).
I was at the polls since 4:30am this morning.
I can attest that 90% of the voters that came through there could not identify even the VPs of ANY of the candidates.
I would vote for a provision to make a mandatory competency exam before being allowed to vote. (and BAN straight line party voting--names ONLY--no party affiliation)

Things are fine in Canada our banks are strong with the exception of CIBC. The problem is however if the USD goes into hyperinflation the Canadian banks will go broke or the Bank of Canada will if the banks pushed the USD to our Central bank.
I do not have enough info to make a judgment call on what will happen to Canada even though I am Canadian but one thing for sure it will not be good.

Here on the Big Island of Hawaii we have had many lay-offs in the construction and hotel industry. This has affected some members of my family, including myself. We have a massive job shortage here leaving it very difficult to find a job. The stores here still remain open but, have raised prices. In my community, emphasis has been put on planting gardens. Future looks scary.

thanks for the video VV - here in Vermont things don't appear that bad on the surface. House prices are holding steady, very few forclosures (our local banks are reasonably responsible), unemployment appears steady, a few box stores are closing (a good thing !) - more people gardening and hunting (hey it's Vermont) - I do know that the credit market has affected funding for the state colleges - also, auto sales are hurting here..

I believe in peak oil, so I think long term its a great investment. Although I prefer the companies not the actual commodities at this point. I think a lot of these commodity investment vehicles will be banned in the future.

sell 1/4 when it doubles then another 1/4 when it doubles again repeat until you have paid of all debts if you have any or wait until everyone is talking about it and where to buy it at dinner parties.
Or wait for Peter Schiff to say get out (he will be way early) Just remember dollars are only good for what you can buy with them. If we are in hyperinflation it is useless to get at all, just buy property directly with your silver it will be dirt cheep like 500 or less ounces of silver.

Ron Paul understands the economy better than each of the above. Bill Gates was a bright boy in the right place at the right time. Buffet just buys solid companies at value prices. Martha evidently didn't know insider trading was illegal. Google? How can a company vote? Is Acorn signing up companies now? If Austrian economics were in practice America would not be in the financial ruin that it finds herself. I would love to sit in a room with them after the Obama phenomenon has had a chance to gel. I'll try once again. Here in my small town in Canada, in the past couple of years, our bank, 2 stores, bake shop, our hospital and our lumber mill have all closed.
My husband worked in the mill, and after bogus promises of it reopening, a year later my husband had to go out to work on the fishing boat. Fishermen was making $7.00 per pound of lobster 2 yrs ago. This year, $4.00 per pound. They are loosing money... So if you are thinking it is only having an impact on the US, Think again.
