  • Fuck the Arcade Version being Released on the PS3 and Wii why couldn't we get this Version instead just because you get hit once and you die this Game has a Health Bar which means a few more hits than 1

  • Well Shinobi & Bionic Commando could be a good pair, but I think shinobi should co-op with other ninja.

    Shinobi & Ninja Gaiden. Excelent.

    Shinobi & Last Ninja. Awesome.

Shinobi & ninja Alex Kidd. Little weird, but OK.

What other ninjas would be great with Shinobi?

  • @Rakiarmas ...Have you heard of a game called Alex Kidd in Shinobi World?

  • @PrrrromotionGiven

Yes I have. I even played it somewhere in the near past.

  • This is my second favorite 8-bit game, after Super Mario Bros. It is outrageously fun and addictive, much more so than most modern games. I'm so glad I discovered it on Sonic's Ultimate Genesis Collection. And to think, it was made by the guys who made Streets of Rage, Sakura Wars, Valkyria Chronicles, and my favorite RPG of all time--Skies of Arcadia!

  • This game was great. Great graphics for 1987 and before the Genesis. I also like the end music to this video. It gives me a shopping in JC Penny's kind of feel.

  • 0:30 Ken-Oh? Raoh is that you?!

  • Where's the link for part 2? I don't see it. Please post it in your description above. Thanks!

  • Lol Herculoids ha ha ha....

  • Cool 80's music at the end! sounds like good times.

  • i respect the SMS, i didn't have one when i was a kid, as most kids i owned a NES.. but damn, this is one fine game.. and i love the console's design and controllers...

  • Is there a second part?

  • lose a life=all weapons lost=restart game lol

    hardest game i ever played

  • @darkroronoa Man, the arcade version was even harder than this. You've got a life bar in this version, but the arcade version was one hit=death and restart level.

  • I played Alex Kidd in Shinobi World years before I played this. Got it with my SMS along with Master of Darkness when I was 5 or so (thanks Mum and Dad), so because of that this level music will always remind me of Alex Kidd and not Shinobi. Both great games though.

  • lifebar? on shinobi? what the fuck is happenin here

  • i`m love the bonus stage.shooting ninja

  • No doubt the Genesis is one of the best video game systems ever made...........but something about the Sega Master System makes it great. This game was amazing for its time and still is

  • Masterpiece.

  • indeed great music. I remember alot of glitches when I was younger.

the map with the water and the submarine dudes jumping out.. i got so frustated at it when i died

  • this is the cool ninja version of michael jacksons moonwalker

  • @CaptainPoovabladoo A Review of this game where great because that was an awesome game! My favorite one on the gamegear back in the days.

  • hey this game is on xbox live now !

  • Comment removed

  • Do they have the original Arcade version on PS3 network, I bought it on the Wii but would really like to have it on the PS3.

  • Man i love this classic game room!

  • ever feel like you're watching a commercial for a commercial?

  • i won 2 time in the bonus

  • You should review SMS Phantasy Star vs NES Final Fantasy 1.

  • health bar?!!?

  • @famous305matrix the arcade version it was one hit and you're dead and you got swarmed with enemies as well but hey, it was the master system!! it was still fun with its limits..

  • Going to be honest I hate this game Ninja gaiden on sms is much much better I think, even alex kidd in shinobi world is better than this its so dated.

  • where do i get this?

  • Lol, that helicopter was shinobi's bitch

  • this sega version is getto

play the arcade version on "mame"

    graphics, sound - waaaaaay better

    smoother gameplay too

  • Put up part 2 and fight the Masked Devil at the end. I dare ya. It's not easy.

  • Sega Genesis Power Base converter generates twice the flickering than a real Sega Master System console! - I had both back in the day.

  • @grinrause But he uses the power base

  • @grinrause I think you are right, I have watched quite of few of these SMS videos now and I don't remember seeing a lot of flickering or any at all when I had my Sega Master System. My SMS was the original one, not the model 2 console or anything like that.

  • Its a bitch helicopter

  • Umm... So, where's part 2? Mark? Hello?

  • i love this game!!! my cousin told me about the cheat code (level select) and that was pure bliss to my 13 year old ears in 1991 :)

  • the NES version is pretty good...

  • Classic. I love the nostalgia.

  • No double jump? That's horseshit.

  • @highwaysonyfan87 why so butt hurt? You act like he is attacking you with his review. He plays the game till he finishes or game over. Then he tells you whats on his mind. What more do you want? The guy is a beer drinking joker, which makes him cool and human. If you cant see that, than your loss. Also you probably might need lessons on how to accept people for who they are.

  • Great game with a great soundtrack. . .I hate that they didn't use the colors from the arcade. Oddly enough, when the arcade version's colors were messed up it looks exactly like the SMS version. . .

  • I used to love this game back when I was kid was another game called Ninja I think it was another great aracde game for the Master System.

  • @pearljam619 yeah, but ninja was incredibly hard though

  • I love the stock music at the end!!

any way I can get my hands on it w/out paying??

  • i like ninja gaiden much better but shinobi is still an awesome game

  • Try playing without loosing a life!

Shinobi = a god with full power-ups on SMS version.

Most game reviewers do not seem to mention the awsome powrups.

  • I wonder if they go the rights to use norma jeans image on the pictures on the wall.

  • 7800 had a 6502-based CPU, 128 sprites, 320x200, 256 colors

    NES had a 6502-based CPU, 32 sprites, 256x200, 48 colors

    .

So in what way was NES more advanced? It looks like it was inferior to the 7800 in every way. It was also inferior to Sega's Master System

    .

  • @harleykman

it had fucken Super Mario Bros 1 and Super Mario Bros 3... the killer apps to kill all other killer apps.....

in that way it was more advanced than the other two systems.

  • @colliric SMB1 and SMB3 are certainly great games, but that doesn't make the NES more "advanced" when we're discussing technology

    .

NES was actually the weakest console, with slow processor and less-capable graphics than the Sega Master System or the Atari 7800. After all the NES was pretty old (designed in 1982) while the SMS was designed in 1985 and A7800 in 1984. It's logical that it would be less advanced with older tech

    .

  • @colliric It isn't advanced, its severely inferior.

But it has fucking awesome library of games, yes.

  • He looks cross eyed at the beginning?! Roaming the streets and docks picking up kids. So Shinobi is a boss-eyed paedophile with ninja skills.

  • capcom won...obviously though bayonetta did whoop. but team sonic sucks. but isn't shinobi the name...and the game?

  • It looks funny and well done.

    But where is part 2?

  • rescuing kids, remind you of anyone

  • @xboxgamerJ16 Micheal Jackson :P

  • The arcade version is on the wii vc

    and it rocks

  • is there a second part coming to this??

  • The NES version sucked real bad. The SMS version was a superior port.

  • @Joeyboots80

it was the best port and one of the greatest arcade ports to an inferior system... naturally it was a Sega game so it was better on SMS than Nes which was ported under license by another company.

  • @colliric

Heh, I just found out that atari ported it to the NES under their Tengen brand name... no wonder NES version sucks, they hated Nintendo.

  • @Joeyboots80 It wasn't that bad; but it was from Tengen.

  • @Morahman7vnNo2

    Tengen = Atari

  • @Joeyboots80 The Xbox 360 version is the most superior port.

  • @WebVMan You don't say? *sarcasm*

  • @Joeyboots80

the NES version was a dodgy port by Atari(masquerading as Tengen)... no wonder it sucked... most of their NES games sucked and should even be considered so malicious that they were genuine attempts to sabotage the system.

  • sonic ultimate genesis collection include shinobi on arcade in the extra opcion but you got to unlock it completing level 1 of shinobi 3 without lossing a life

  • We used to call this game "świniobij" in primary school. It's in Polish - you'll not understand the exact meaning, but "świniobicie" is a kind of fest during people are killing the pigs to produce a lot of saussages. I think similar fest is also popular in Czech Republic (correct me if I'm worng). This "Shinobi" sounds almost the same like "świniobij". Primary school guys imagination sometimes scares me :-)

  • I meant "feast" - a special day (I made a mistake typing "fest"). Such day took place 2, 3 times a year on a countryside.

  • I'm sorry but the SMS version, while true to the arcade as far as level layout and all-a-dat goes, is pretty BOOTY. The graphics suck and the animation is 4-bit...

  • It would be cool if Sega and Konami teemed up Joe Musashi and Simon Belmont somehow

  • I think the SMS-version is better then the arcade cause SMS have lifebars, and not single-hit-instant-death like the arcade.

Graphics is nice aswell, too bad level 2 music is in the bonus-stage only in SMS-version, cause that tune rocks.

  • I have the Shadow Dancer for the Mega Drive and its exaclty lik the older versions of Shinobi

  • This game is actually a pretty solid rendition of the arcade version is one of the best of its kind for sms.

  • welcome to bonus stage! xD

  • SHINOBI!!!!

  • Own This Too n' Box and manual. I love The big Ass "YOU FAIL" at the bouns.

  • dude u r so cool if u quit

i would hide and cry for years

  • The arcade version is so much better than the MS version - bigger sprites, better sound, etc. Unfortunately, I can only recommend MAME to people who already own the original cabinet, as it would be illegal...and wrong!

  • Well of course the arcade version is better looking and sounding than the SMS version, because of the diffrences of the hardware they ran on it's just not a fair comparison, now if you compaired the SMS version to other 8-bit platforms it was released for at the time like the C64 or the awful NES version by Tegen then yeah. Also you can play the arcade version on the Ultimate Sega Genesis/Mega drive collection for the PS3 and 360 which unlike Space harrier on the disk it's emulated perfectly

  • @Evilmonkey66699 Thumbs up on the Space Harrier comment, jesus, way to f@?k up a masterpiece it completely ruins it for me!

  • Ugh, that level with the rotating face things...

  • yeah, it is very easy to beat if you know the trick like i show in my video. it does not work on the xbox live version, only the arcade original!

  • That was amazing!! wheres part 2?? I looked all over for it? I really wanted to see you use the ninja magic!! I remember mashing buttons when I was a kid and it went off ... holy crap it scared the crap out of me. Totally wasn't expecting the screen to go bright white and shinobi scream at me...please show me part 2!!

  • sega vs capcom anyone?

  • @gojira12345678910 what they need to do is just have some super awesome super smash bros type game that has nintendo, sega, capcom, marvel, DC, midway, SNK, Namco and everyone else. It would DBZ characters flying around kicking pokemon in the face and mortal kombat characters uppercutting tekken characters heads off and sonic and mario would be trying not to get chopped in half by samurai and dante from DMC would be slicing and shooting everyone as kraitos and chronos smash on snake all while

  • @gojira12345678910 Link and gannondorf @#$# nightmare and voldo and lizardman while the power rangers fight the TMNT......... oh and did i mention it would be like MAG style multiplayer?

  • @gojira12345678910 sonic could kick mega man's ass

  • @gojira12345678910 hell yeah I want to see Strider and Shinobi duke it out!

  • @gojira12345678910 wish their was a SEGA vs NINTENDO

(not like sonic & mario in the olympic games or whatever) no like uh where sonic goes up and beats up mario then mario wants revenge so sonic and mario r now going to kill each other

  • @gojira12345678910 thats like saying mario vs nintendo cuz most capcom games are sega types lol

  • Puta que o pariu eu joguei muito esse jogo!!! é muita emoção caraleoooo...puxa vida.

  • it did

  • What's two mega cartridge? Is it more than twice the mega power, or the same?

  • I think the kids look like monkeys. Shinobi rescuing monkeys is much more entertaining than saving children, so I'm just going to assume they're actually monkeys.

  • lol it would be funny if they flung poo at you when you tried to rescue them, or theyd powerhump your head.

"Uh-oh, this monkey have started to move"

  • That would make a delightful lack of sense. I applaud your efforts, sir ^_^

  • why thank you hehehe

  • Hey where is that music from 0:19-0:29 I'd like to download it or get a copy of it if someone can tell me.

  • @BTLAGS Watch some 80's porn and you'll just might find it

  • @Elgesen Ok how do you know? I'm suprised it's 80's porn theme or music what ever you call it. I dont know why cgr even hasnt has it especailly for shinobi. weird

  • @BTLAGS I did'nt say that it were 80's porn music, it just sounded like it

  • @Elgesen Ok thats fine.

  • Finally got this, it was in a big box of old games from a yard sale. I'd always played the NES and now I want my childhood refunded after playing the Master System version...it was much better. Well, all but the NES super high jumps.

  • Hey the arcade version is alot better then any of the ports it looks and plays better

  • Yeah, let's buy a twenty two year old arcade machine lol

  • I recommend it, I have two :P

  • I'm in the process of building a M.A.M.E machine actually. Just got the joysticks & controller PCB finished along with buying a 22" monitor for it. Designing the cabinet for it now. Shinobi will no doubt be one of the first games I play on it.

  • yea i just play shinobi on M.A.M.E. for PC

  • I prefer the arcade version. Anyway, the arcade is always better :P

  • Lol, I played this thing when I was like 8-9 and I used to beat some of the bosses and complete some stages (the final boss seemed impossible though). I picked it again and I felt like an illiterate guy trying to sign his name.

  • i still have working sega!! and i have basic controller, joystic and plastic gun for it!!! XD

  • The NES was more powerful to the 7800 though.

  • @Link4587452

nah the sms was 2+ times stronger but you see who still won taht war lol.

  • I said the NES was stronger than the 7800, not the SMS.

  • @Link4587452

its not the nes is weaker

  • @Link4587452 Actually, the 7800 had slightly better hardware, and more RAM. The problem really lied in that no one really took full advantage of the hardware like they did with the NES, though I can't say I'd blame them after using that controller for more than fifteen minutes.

  • LOL the music at the end amkes it sound like a 70's porno and then you open the box and it really looks and sounds naughty. :D

  • I play this game manny times.Great version.

I never defeated Mandara, she is hard.

Do you play the ''Alex Kidd version''?Super funny!

  • Damn! Me neither!!!!

Only time I destroyed all the mandalas I got killed by the cannon that appears afterwards!!!

Alex Kid in shinobi world was awesome but easy as hell.

  • the arcade verson was a bitch to beat, it comes with sonics ultimate genesis collection, and its difficulty is very much like ninja gaiden sigma if not worse, but it is a ok game

  • it missing the timmer

  • i play this game in the arcades and also in my nes , with those unlicensed black cartridges from tengen among other sega games can you believe it ^_^

  • I can't find the link to the part2 :\

  • I don't think they ever released part 2 of this review.

  • I acually bought the arcade machine of shinobi back in 1999 from a arcade buisness that was going out and had the machine to sell for 250 dollars, i love this game and played it back in 1987 when it came out and wanted it for myself for the longest time, maybe in my elder years ill get rid of it on e bay, I guess we will see, but this has to be by far one of the best ninja games ever...

  • Arcade was a lot harder, no life bar. The arcade Shinobi is an unlockable in the new ultimate genesis collection.

  • And that's the main reason I bought that game. I was just casually looking through IGN when I decided to check out an article on the new Collection game. My jaw dropped as soon as I saw that you could unlock the original Shinobi, and I absolutely had to get it.

  • same...im just mad that revenge and shadow dancer werent included

  • Yeah, you'd think with Shinobi being a staple of Sega's legacy that they'd include as much as possible.

  • They should of at least ditched one of the two Altered Beasts(2 come on) and Sonic 3D blast and instead had Shadow Dancer and Revenge, yeah we got Shinobi 3 and the Arcade but 3 makes me want to play Revenge all the more.

  • Yeah, we could have done without Altered Beast for GEN (but keep the Arcade version) and put in another Shinobi.

  • Yeah, that was one of the selling points for me too. The arcade Shinobi is the only one I had never played before. I've gotten pretty far in it so far since I brought the SUGC.

  • It's a bitch to beat, isn't it? hahaha, the whole no-option-of-continuing-on-the-last-mission thing doesn't help me much. :P

  • MegaFan1994

    2 weeks ago you said

    NES Shinobi was never licensed

however Tengen ported it in 1989

    the game must've been licensed

    you got your facts incorrect/wrong

  • Is it just me or do some Sega Master System games look 16 bit?

  • I hope your not talking about this game.

  • Well, I probably was...but there are some games that do look 16-bit.

  • so u dont think it is strange in anyway there are spidermen to fight!?

shame u didnt get to play the arcade version^^

  • Looks like he never made part 2...

  • The arcade version of this game was INCREDIBLE. Used to play it and Double Dragon down at the local fish and chips shop back in the late 80s; even as a kid I knew it was special.

  • Don't download them off coolroms, get the real thing.

  • Sweet, he's using the rapid fire unit! I have one too! They rock!

  • I've briefly played the second one on sega channel when I was a kid, I coudln't get into it at the time for the one hit kills you thing

  • The only shinobi I got into was Shinobi 3, which is absolutely amazing, that game rules, Ninja battling mutants, demons, the military, it's insane!

  • I never ran across this version of Shinobi. I did play the arcade version a lot back in the day, and I can tell you it was harder than hell. This version looks like it might be a lot more fun since it's not ridiculously hard like the arcade.

  • I really liked that intro music....

    gets me that 'retro' feeling

  • 0:20 shinobi, the cross-eyed ninja!!!

  • Hey Mark, it'd be interesting to see a few head to head comparisons between NES and SMS games like you did with Street Fighter 2. Good review!

  • I whole heartedly agree. I posted that same thing in the Street Fighter 2 video. Well about more SNES/Genesis comparisons.

  • Shinobi would be an unfair comparison, since the NES version was never licensed.

  • The Masked Ninga was easy with a chain and rockets!

  • Shinobi rules.

  • Bought this game brand new, when it came out, pretty fun.

  • Got my convertor today and ofc Shinobi, what an awesome game, who cares if it is 20 years old, this is from when games where fun, WE WANT MORE FUN GAMES, lets all rise against japan and fight for our freedom FREEDOM

  • Когда я увидел на игровом автомате на ВДНХ то ли в конце 80-х или в начале 90-х Шиноби я был поражен, что столько всего можно воплотить в игре.

  • i never had the master system but the genesis (mega drive) with the converter because even 16bit was there i still liked to play the sms games. shinobi i never played but i know how i played alex kid in shinobi world ^^ and it has a lot of stuff from the original.

the enemys and some bosses are taken from this game i guess. specialy the first lvls i saw. not sure at the moment which one came out first but probly shinobi. anyway i should give it a try.. nice review

  • I never had a SMS, but I do remember seeing this in the arcades. I especially remember that bonus stage where the ninjas move and jump towards you.

Funny enough though a store in the mall I work at sells some SMS games, but I don't remember seeing Shinobi. I never really had a reason to look through them closely.
