  • Thank you @Notefulldotcom! Your videos really helped me get the score i needed,, :-) God bless! :-)

  • Thank you so much!

  • Joseph, I just took the test on saturday and every part of every question was exactly how you said they would be. So I would like to thank you for such clear and effective lessons that you provide and hope that your guidance will help thousands of more who need it. Keep up the good work!

  • @aytugS Hey! I wondered, since you took the test only 2 weeks ago, are the questions exactly as the ones in Joseph's examples? I have some practice programs (like Cambridge and Longman) and there the questions are totally different from these ones and I really can't use these templates. So, are the questions at least similar in the actual test?

    Thank you and good luck!

  • @IIrinaP Hi there, Irina. Cambridge is a good supplement to your studies, but unfortunately, the speaking and writing sections of the exam are not exactly as described in these books. Additionally, in our experience, Longman is even further off the mark and we wouldn't recommend using it for your studies. Best of luck!

  • @NoteFulldotcom I just received my score: 105 (R:27, L:26, S:24, W:28)! I am very happy! And you were right, Cambridge practice pack is the most similar with the actual test. Thank you again for all your videos!

  • Joseph, I have just finished my exam. I only had 2 weeks to prepare but with that timeframe, I was able to condition myself on how to answer the questions confidently.Your videos helped me in doing just that. Sadly,I missed some parts in the reading section. Oh well,I'm still hoping I get at least 100. I need it for my scholarship. I haven't gotten my scores yet, but I want to thank you as early as now. Peace, love, and happiness from the Philippines!

  • I jumped from 72 to 88 because of Allah's blessing, and then your videos. Thanks a lot Joseph :)

  • I have nothing to say but : THANK YOU VERY MUCH---> YOU ARE THE MAN

  • oops, this is supposed to be iBT, so I guess the computer has a timer, right...? That's not good.

  • @alexdcpe Hi Alex. You're right. The computer has a timer and it will stop recording when time is up. It's difficult, but it's definitely possible to deliver a controlled, thorough answer within 45 seconds. Keep practicing. Good luck!

  • You said in the beginning of the video that you only have 45 seconds to speak, but your answers take more than that. Does the person who is listening let you finish your answer if you take a little longer than 45 seconds (~1 minute)? I'm a little worried about that, and coming up with something in 15 seconds, especially when you're nervous is really hard.

  • Hey Joseph, When I first took the test I had: R: 1/30, L: 3/30, S: 3/30, W: 4/30. With a total of 11/120. Then last month before I took another TOEFL and just before the exam I came across with your videos. Now my scores are: R: 5/30, L: 4/30, S: 30/30, W: 29/30. Which gave me a total of 68/120 THIS HUGE IMPROVEMENT IN MY SCORES GAVE ME A HOPE TO ACHIEVE THE MINIMUM SCORE DEMANDED FROM THE COLLEGE I AM PLANNING TO APPLY. According to their criteria I need 119/120 minimum. Thank you !
  • @IKilledMyPast Lol are you kidding?

  • Guys, I just wanna thank you so much for your help. I was quite confident about the other skills, but worried about the speaking session. On the night before the test, I watched your videos and they surely helped me A LOT - I ended up getting 28 in speaking!

  • Thanks a lot for your help. But my problem is that i get confused first when i see the question. So, while practicing I'm always satisfied with the 3rd time if repeating my answer. Of course this will never happen during the test. This way i get so stressed while answering the following question. :(( do you have any recommendations for me????

  • @michtribe Thanks for writing in. I'm having a bit of trouble understanding what part confuses you about the questions. I know that a lot of students struggle with the supporting examples. A good way to avoid this problem is to prepare a variety of responses in advance. For this issue, I recommend going to our site, clicking on Free TOEFL Class, and then clicking on 180 Questions. This will provide you with a lot of questions to begin preparing your supporting examples. Good luck!

  • Joseph I learnt your techniques about speaking they helped me a lot. I always messed up things in 3&4 question, now I answer totally different ;) any advice for listening that will help me a lot? I have the test on 19 of november. Thank You

  • @Zogist1 Hi there! At this time we don't have any videos about the listening section. However, we recommend that you search for "ouliogroove" on YouTube. It's not perfect and it's easier than on the test, but it's the best we've seen so far. I hope this helps. Good luck!

  • perfect!

  • Thank you! Thank you! I scored 116

    Reading -29

    Listening - 30

    Speaking - 27

    Writing -30

For the speaking section, all I had to do was follow your advice and practice a lot. I'm extremely bad at speaking and notefull.com's videos helped me a lot in my preparation.

Hope you make a lot of money. You deserve it.

  • @jigsawhacker You're most welcome! I'm glad you found success. YOU deserve it!

  • i just got my scores today. 114 xD 25 in reading, 29 in listening and 30 in speaking and writing and i owe a lot of that to you. thank you! your videos helped me more than anything :D

  • @eva0208 omg!! 30 in speaking that means that your speech was perfect !! awesome! congrats!... i would like to get also a high score but i have not even started to prepare for the test that will be on december.. ohh.. well..

  • @kathysoiio thank you :) don't worry about it. i only started preparing about 2 weeks or so before the test and believe you me if you follow his advice exactly you will get a good score for the speaking part as well ;) good luck!

  • Thank you

  • Transcribe the audio for this video and you find how perfect is his pronunciation and speed of speaking. That is the kind off speaking we need to practice for TOEFL.

  • it's so hard and stressing try to think and construct a rational phrase with those 60 seconds pressing you

  • @knlshrvstv Hi, great to hear you've done well. I'll be taking toefl in 3 days. I've just started browsing some videos like this. How did you feel during the test? Were the questions pretty much similar to these? I worry about the speaking and writing because I'm not very well organized.

    I took TOEFL iBT 3 times ...

First time, when I didn't know about you and your tips - 88 pts,

Second time, when I saw your videos and tried a little to implement your templates- 97pts,

Third time, when I decided to totally rely on your tips - 104 pts (entry requirement was 100).

Thanks to you, I'll study on one of the TOP TEN UNIVERSITIES IN THE WORLD!

Maybe one day I'll be able to thank you in person.

    You're doing a great job.

  • hello,

thanks for the video, it was really helpful. the speaking part is the only part that i have trouble with and i think you just solved that problem for me :D i think the way you structured your answers is a life saver.

  • u mentioned the sequence as answer follwed by reasoin 1 and then example but i read toefl people ask in this way like wht person u admire - answer follwed by description of person then reason 1 and example......did i get it right?

  • Carpet rise!

Btw, great job. It can help me.

  • Hello Joseph. Thanks for this video. Now I understand that my problems with speaking section was not my fault. I just had a bad teacher. I have no problems with writing section but when it comes to speaking I get confused, I can't even say a word. For the first time in my life 45 seconds are SO long) I hope watching your videos will help me to improve my speaking)

  • Great! Thank you.

  • Hi Joseph,

Your videos are very helpful, because of these videos it was able for me to score 26 in speaking section in my first attempt. Thanks for posting all the videos of 6 questions. Thanks a lot.

  • Had 2 days to prepare. In the nick of time I discovered your videos for the speaking part, and they were very, very helpful. The final tally: R29 L29 S28 W29. Thanks so much for all your tips! Cheers! :-)

  • R27 L30 S28 W25 = 110 thanks for the idea of test questions

  • @prokoluk how did u prepare so well :) any tips

  • What if we exceed 45 secs... is it OK or will the test cut you off???

  • hey! thanks for all of your tips! i have a question related with the speaking part of the exam: How do you know which type of question is the one that you are going to listening to? I mean, is the order of the question just like You said it? question 1: opinion and personal likes.... etc... If i don't know which is going kind of question is going to be, i can;t apply your tips!

  • I recommend Joseph for teaching me through this online course. I got 26 in speaking and it's all worth the effort of practice with this great guide. Kudos to you!

  • Hi Joseph!

I'd like to thank you for your help!

I took the test and scored 105. Here are the exact results:

    R29 L27 S24 W25

The speaking section has always been my biggest problem, but thanks to your tips, I could at least score 24 :)

Thanks again!! I deeply appreciate your work!

  • Thanks a lot!!! I just got my results now:

    R30 L30 S27 W28

It was my first time and I was really worried about the speaking section but your tips helped a lot!

  • Thank you so much!!

Great Job, Just followed all your points and scored 111 in Toefl. To viewers seeing this video- all I would like to say is just follow his points and sure it would be of great help and increase your score tremendously.

  • Hi Joseph! The very first time I took TOEFL after I had watched your videos, I scored 24 on speaking, which was about 3 months ago (but I needed 25 or more...) However, I thought I could've done better. So, I took it again about 2 weeks ago, and this time, I thought I did great... But the score was 20... What do you think the most important key to go over 25 points? The very first time I took TOEFL about a year ago, I did not watch your video at that time, but I scored 24 on speaking.

  • haha it's so useful,,,

  • They guy making the question in the recorded sounds with an evil voice (1:16) XD I hope I don't have that kind of scary voices in my TOEFL exam ha ha

  • This is really helpful, thank you!

  • Thanks for the useful structural tips, the 2 reasons and conclusion part is great. Having said that, you are taking more than 45 seconds to elaborate your responses, so you may use shorter to the point examples in the future.

  • "In my view" is not a common phrase to express your opinion.. In fact I've never heard it before today.

  • Hey - your tips are indeed very helpful and accurate. Before the test I had some problems with spending time on unnecessary, long notes. Then I worked a little bit on this part with your tips and voila:

    Reading 30, Listening 25, Speaking 27, Writing 28

A score I wouldn't even dare to dream about ;)

    Cheers from Poland!

  • I would like to thank you for your tips! I was able to get a score of 27 in speaking and 28 in writing. More power to you!

  • thanks a lot man....my score R26, L26, S26, W25...could have done better in R and L...but thanks u r videos helped a lot...

  • Thank YOU!!!

Thanks to you, I got 27 at the speaking section, totaling the score I was hoping for, 112!!

    Keep on rocking :)

  • Oh!!! I hate you! you are so

    you are so..

    you are so .... EHHHHHH

    you are so ....

(45 seconds latter) you are so fluent!

  • Hi Joseph I prepared for the speaking and writing sections of the toefl solely from your videos... to my surprise, I scored a 30 in speaking section and 28 in writing. Overall 108. lost marks in reading because of my over confidence. I just wanted to thank you for uploading such useful videos. Thanks a lot for your service and Happy new year! :)

I had not sufficient confidence in Speaking. After listening your tips, with minimal preparation i got 24 and overall 97.

    Thank you !!!!

  • Most helpful video I've ever seen. One person accidentally clicked the wrong button (thumbs down).

  • hey joseph,

thanks a lot for your tips.. they were immensely helpful. I scored 116 (R-30, L-29, S-29,W-28). Before going through your videos I was extremely tensed about the speaking section. Your templates made all the speaking tasks very simple. Thanks once again.

  • pharma11

Hi Joseph, One of my friend always suggesting me to start with an one line introduction before going for reasons for the first speaking question. Is it necessary?

  • Hi Joseph, I am from India. I just wanted to tell you that you are doing an amazing job here. I took my TOEFL on 21st aug with just 3 days of practice and I must say your videos really helped me a lot. I got 110 with 29 in speaking and 30 in writing(Followed your tips and gave around 1-2 practice tests as I was short of time). Even though my english was decent enough, I was low on confidence and your videos really helped me a lot. Keep up the good work. God bless you :)

  • Hi, just got my score last friday, September 10,2010. R-24,L27, S27,W27 total of 105. I just watched your videos and used the phrases and templates you provided in your website. It was my first attempt to take the exam and my preparation was only 2 weeks. I'm happy that i got a high score. Thanks a lot Joseph. You're example and explanation are pretty accurate. Keep up the good work.

  • Hi Joseph, I took TOEFL test for 14 times. Interesting enough, I passed all sections at almost high scores except for speaking. I got 22 in 13 tests and 24 in one test. Please advise me what to do. I should get more than 26 in speaking to pass. My next test will be on September 10th. Looking forward to hearing from you

  • @afayed1986 I admire your dedication and imagine how frustrating this can be. My initial thought is that you have habits of answering that have never changed and in order to change them to succeed you need one-on-one work. I see personal tutoring with guided help as the way for you to improve. If you'd like personal tutoring with me, visit the site (NoteFull) and let me know if you have any questions. Good luck!

  • thank you joseph for ur help. I am taking test tomorrow, a bit worried about speaking and writing part..wish me a luck..god bless me..

  • can any one plz tell me to what question i have to give a response ...and send it to joseph sir.

  • 105

  • Hi!!!I remembered being so nervous because i did not have enough time to study for my exam and then i saw your videos (the day before my exam)! Your videos are very informative, simple and direct.I followed your tips for all the speaking tasks and that helped me to be more confident and focused that finally i have an idea of how i should approach the question.I was able to pass my TOEFL exam!!! I hope it's ok if i post your videos to the forum i go to. Thank you sooo much and God Bless you!!

  • Thank you Mr Joseph for your videos and the great tips they contain. They really helped me in preparing for my TOEFL iBT (especially for the speaking and writing sections). I got an overall score of 113 (R-30, L-30, S-24, W-29) in my very first attempt. Thank you once again and keep up the good work as you are helping out a lot of people like me....greetings from Sri Lanka!

  • That was just awesome!

  • Hi Joseph, thank you very much for your tips. I had only 5 days to prepare for my exams and bu using your methods I got a total of 113 and 29 in speaking. Thank you very much.:)

  • @estatitra Wow! That's fantastic. I'm very happy that the videos helped you and you're very welcome.

  • Hi Joseph,

thank you for your help. Your tips were very useful. I took my toefl 22nd of May and scored 109 at my first try. Unfortunately I scored only 24 in the speaking section (I really did a bad job on the first 2 questions..) and 30 R, 27 L, 28 W.

    Thanks again!!!

  • @Rubinstein78 I'm sorry to hear that, but remember that the speaking is special because you have no chance to think twice or try again as you speak, which means little errors hear and there that can cost you points are very difficult to avoid. Keep focused, continue to master the tips you learned, and don't give up! It's just a matter of time. Let me know if there's anything I can do to help. Good luck!

  • @Rubinstein78 omg 109 is bAD???!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • You really helped me and others with toefl and thank you.

How can one answer a question when it is a negative one such as explain a person that you dislike and why... or a movie that you hated watching or... the worse memorable events of your life....

  • @hope4toefl Great question. The TOEFL is asking these questions more and more often. Answering is the exact same:

In my view, the person that I dislike most is Bob for two major reasons.

    First, he's rude.

For example, last week I asked him to give me a ride to the airport. It would have been okay if he just said he was busy, but instead he told me that he wasn't a taxi and became angry with me.

Bob doesn't exist, but fortunately for us he provides a great example. I hope that helped.

  • @NoteFulldotcom

Thank you as always. Took the test again on 26th of June, my speaking got much better but writing was worse. I need to get w24 and s26 and stuck at w22 and s24 (my highest scores and flactuate).

    I m sooooooooo relieved!!!

    Thanks a LOT!!!

  • Thank you for providing useful tips.

I will take the TOEFL tomorrow, which is on 3/27/10

Before, I was so relax when I'm doing my practice tests. However, once it comes to real test, I was so frustrated and messed up most of the responses. I will try to calm down on the test tomorrow though.

  • I'm happy that you found the tips helpful and I hope your test went well. I know the test can be stressful, but prepare as much as you can so that you can use that knowledge to help reduce the anxiety. Good luck!

  • thank you so much. your video is very helpful. I'm gonna check the other vids as well.

hope u can post similar vids soon.

    -5 stars & favorite-

  • Thanks for the positive feedback. I'm currently working on upgrading my site, but once that's done, I'm going to start posting more videos so stay tuned. Joseph.

  • Hello

Big thanks to you. I got my Toefl ibt score.

    R26, L26, S26, W28.

Before exam i checked all your tutorials at youtube. Your tips especially for speaking section helped me a lot during exam.

    Thanks once again.

  • Congratulations! I'm very happy to hear that you found the tutorials helpful and you got your score. Great job.

  • @pree08ful It's wonderful that you earned your 26 in the speaking. It's very difficult to do and I love to hear that the videos helped. Congratulations on your score. Maybe you should make your own videos too. Joseph.

  • @pree08ful How did you get 26 on reading that's amazing!

  • Thanks to everyone for all the positive comments. I'm happy it helps. Don't forget; I'm always happy to help. I'm going to post some new videos in the next week or two, so check back when you can.

  • bravo...

  • Great tutorial !!!

    Thanks a lot

  • Thank you for your best guide.

I will use this tip in my test, thanks again.

  • thanks for this great video!

do i only need to support (or oppose) a thesis or is it possible to balance reasons?

if i have a statement such as:

it is the teacher's responsibility to make a student learn the material

can i say that i support this thesis (of course give examples) but then say (instead of a 2nd reason) that this is only necessary until high school?

    thank you very much

  • That's fine because you're still expressing your opinion about the topic. My only concern is that you may run out of things to say with that statement or you might go a little off topic. My major recommendation is to keep it simple and, well, stay on topic. If it's easier or just as easy for you to support only one side, do that. Remember; your score comes from your clarity, structure, content, and word count, not your opinion. Great question. I hope this answers it clearly. If not let me know.

  • Hello,

When you are asked to give details, what is the structure to respond? and how about reasons?

    Thanks a lot.

    lima, Peru

  • The exact same way as the example I gave in the video. If you follow the strategy carefully and don't forget that you're explaining your opinion (not just shooting out words), then regardless of the question you will be okay. If you think there's a question you've seen that is hard to use this strategy with, don't hesitate to post it and I'll help you with it as soon as possible.

  • Thank you so much for your quick response!

I like the suggestions you mentioned.

Do you know any websites or helpful tips for this speaking section? This is the only section I am really struggling with (I have received almost 30 in all other sections, but I received 23 in Speaking.)

I am taking the test this coming Saturday.

Thank you so much! : )

  • @sleepingjohn I offer free help for #4 of the speaking on my website. Just click on the link in the more info box next to this video.

If you like it, I offer different products with practice and video tutorials for each speaking question. Check it out.

For more free practice, I would recommend ouliogroove's speaking practice posting here on youtube. Don't follow the example answers, but the practice is good.

  • Hello. I have a question.

I have lived in the States for almost four years now, and I can very fluently speak English.

I want to get score about 28 or 29. My pronunciation is pretty good, and I speak at a normal pace. But, I just need a template.

I honestly do not like the template that goes like First, Second, this is why. It just sounds so made up and fake - I doubt anyone would say like that in a real conversation.

Do you have any suggestions for a different template? Thank you so much.

  • Yes, I do. But, remember that this template is the easiest and most effective and my students have used it to achieve 28. But if you don't feel comfortable, erase the phrases but use the same structure. For example:

In my view, xyz is a great snack for two reasons.

    First, it makes me healthy.

    For example, when I was . . .

    This becomes:

    Xyz is a great snack.

    It makes me healthy.

    When I was . . .

That's a more fluent, natural, common way to speak. I hope that helps. Good luck!

  • hey there! thanks for your video, it's great! i have a question, it would be great if you could help me out: if the question is "in your opinion, what is the best place to study?" - what does "place" refer to? something like a city (e.g. london) or the environment (e.g. at home, at university) or both maybe? thanks a lot!

  • Well, both. Place could be anything you want it to be because it's such a general word: library, your room, London, etc. Remember this important tip: when answering always choose the simplest answers and reasons that are the easiest to explain. Hope that helped.

  • @NoteFulldotcom thank you!

  • If anyone watching this video has any questions or comments, let me know. I'll be monitoring my videos just about every day. My new year's resolution is to help 1,000 students get the scores they want in speaking and writing. Let's do it!

  • NoteFulldotcom,

What is your opinion: on the 1st question on TOEFL IBT Speaking, is it better to defend only one position (like in your example with friend who is similar) or can say that sometimes one position is true and in other times - the other?

    Thanks.

  • Well mishocker, if you're able to defend both sides it actually shows more fluency. But, you can get a perfect score by only supporting one and it's easier too. You have to do some extra work to support both sides and still sound clear and logical. I would recommend keeping things as absolutely simple as possible and just support one side.

  • Thank you, will keep this in mind :)
