  • I'm so extremely sorry this happened to you... It's terrible how the state corrupts people.

  • I had it twice. first one was conservative because of my age 2 years ago, but it grew back in 2 months. Today I'm in 5th day post-op complete procedure. I only became aware of ENS yesterday on the internet, I'm very scared! So, I'm hoping everything occur right, otherwise the only options I have are two: the turbinates grow again (and I'm not risking a third surgery) and be doomed with nasal obstruction all the time having to use nasal vasoconstrictors, or be doomed by ENS. hope the good results

  • thank god, I said no to surgery, when my doctor offered it.

  • According to the video, he had his surgery about 11 years ago.

Do you think ENS is still a common, growing problem today now that doctors are more educated in the risks of performing surgery?

  • @GetTheHook I have ENS since 2008 (three years ago) after a common surgery, so I think doctors are not being educated in the risks of performing surgery, and I think this problem (ENS) is growing up every day. It's my opinion.

  • I just had a septoplasty and turbinate reduction surgery about 14 hours ago and never knew of this condition. Now I'm worried as hell.

I hope this botch in surgery isn't common anymore. I've read that doctors are more educated and aware of this now and it's not as common..... someone please reply.

  • Which stupid surgeon suggested there was no harm to remove the turbinate? Surgeon was also stupid to remove tonsil to treat the inflammatory condition of tonsil leading to severe side effect of the respiratory system. Why alway so stupid to remove the useful body tissue to cure the illness which in fact a stupid act? But didn't know to strike a balance?

  • Thanks Chris for having the courage to post your problem...as I have the same except I am drowning in my mucus after having all my turbinates removed. I am looking for a dr in southern ca who can perfrom some sort of neo-turbinates through submucosal implant surgery.

  • where did you do that?

  • I've tried this method. I've used cold pressed grapeseed oil as a moisturizer, it feels good inside. Also maybe it will help to apply comfrey ointment outside the nose. Comfrey is called the bone knitter and can help build up the tissues again inside esp after the surgery. I've also tried using petroleum jelly and lip balm, but according to Wikipedia, inhaling particles of pet. jelly can cause lipid pneumonia, so better use veg oil. Make ur own saline sol w/ some essence of peppermint/eucalytus.

  • Why do you even bother posting here MadRopes? ENS is very real and is crippling. I have suffered from it for over 3 years. It has ruined my life completely. You have no idea how bad this is.

Why would anybody complain if there wasn't a problem? This is 150% real.

  • Had cautery to turbinates & sub mucous resection a week ago here in the UK & yesterday cried a couple of tears from a sad event then my nose just released lots of blood & i fainted, i was not in the same town i had the surgery and was taken to a hospital where they just told me to pinch my nose, im worried as dont know what caused the bleeding, will it grow back wrong ie blocked and uneven etc with the halthcare system here nobody has any time and the closest i can see a specialist is 6 weeks.

  • You comment that ENS is not rare, but Dr. Houser commented in is own write up that ENS IS a rarity.

  • he also said that he believes 20% of people who have there entire turbinates removed developed ens. Why are there ents who still remove the entire turbinate. Madropes if there was 1/1000 chance of what happend to me due to the turbinate surgery i would never ever have taken the risk. Why did the surgeon not warn me of the real risk, oh because he is not interested in understanding the suffering his procedure caused. These ents should be in jail for life.

  • ilikepeaches I just can't seem to wrap my head around what you say. Half of me wants to believe you and thank you for warning me, but the other of me says that your comments are insane. Im sorry I just cant help but be skeptical about comments by someone on the internet who I have never met, yet the other half of me feels compelled to listen to you and cancel my turbinate reduction at once. 1/1000 farily small.. Is your life completely ruined? How old are you by the way (just curious).

  • You should be skeptical about comments by someone on the internet, you should do the research yourself. Look at empty nose forum read the testimonials. Buy chris martins book, look at the case studies of atrophic rhinitis, empty nose syndrome. What comments specifically do you find insane? Ive never said for you to cancel your turbinate reduction please stop lying. Maropes i said if there is 1/1000 chance of developing ens i would not roll the dice, and the ent didnt warn me of the risk.

  • In many videos you keep tearing down the argument that everyone who has turbinate surgery develops ens, and keep saying i made that argument. Why do you stoop to that level, even when i tell you that was not my argument you refuse to listen. I have told you to look into accupuncture meditation, also i said to find an ent who is aware of ens, i have heard submucosal resection is a safer method from ents that work with ens patients. You should do your own research. I am sharing what happend to me.

  • You just make ENS sound like its the biggest epidemic in the world.

  • Right i went for a procedure that was sold to me as if there was no risk, very simple i woke up to a life of torture. Then i found there are a group of people with the exact same symptoms suffering. Many of these people end up committing suicide. I also found out the hard way that the ent industry is not interested in helping these people but is more interested in promoting turbinate surgery. Madropes on other videos you say we shouldnt tell our stories.

  • You keep saying "many" people have commited suicide??? How many?? like 2-3? You just keep repeating yourself over and over again with your fear mongering. I understand your story and respect it, but I wish you wouldnt tell people so many people have commited suicide.

  • 2 or 3 and you think you understand.? The ent industry does not have to deal with the mess they created, i speak to these people and have went through it. The ent that butchered me tried to pass it of as all i had was some dryness.

  • Please tell me how many people you KNOW for a fact have commited suicide over ENS. I don't mean someone that posted on an internet forum saying they commited suicide, i mean people you know.

  • Yeah madropes why dont you send a message to hawkmd who is showing how to do a anterior turbinectomy. How many ents are telling him he shouldnt do that. How many ents are demanding that this butcher have his license removed. How many of his patients do you think end up with ens.

  • Because I have better things to do with my life. I had my surgery btw, and I have not ended up with ENS.

Why don't you just look into implant surgery instead of complaining on youtube all day?

  • Wait till you experience the problem.

Or are you a defending (and arrogant) doctor?

  • Why would you insist that I am going to experience the problem? I had the surgery and i feel fine.

  • infact i feel MUCH better than pre op. Im so sorry you people have nothing better to do but sit on the internet and complain all day long.

  • Someone needs to post this on all the nasal surgery vids. Spread awareness.

  • Hey, the damage circumcision of infants causes is no big deal to most doctors. Why would damage to the unseen parts of the nose bother them?

  • I have just been diagnosed with ENS. Ive had 2 sinus surgeries in the past. The onlything they said they can do for me is give me anxiety medication to help calm me down and sleep and breeth beter. It is not a fun way to live being tired all the time.

  • i only want septoplasty not turbinate removal, so why did he get both done?

  • some surgeons do both automatically to make more money. Others operate on the turbinate because they want to open up the airway. some ents operate on the turbinates only in certain situations using the safest method submucosal resection. there is no consistency out there one surgeon wont touch the turbinate the other surgeon will remove it. they almost always wont diclose the real risks to the surgery. these surgeons should be put in jail for life. they are not interested in understanding.

  • you can get implants in your nose that redirect airflow and eradicate ENS ask your doctor if they perform this surgery

I am not a doctor just someone who knows a lot about the nose

  • eradicate ens, no wookie, even after the implants its still a life of torture. Some of the people were suicidal before the implants afterwards they were not. Still they have intense suffering. Eradicating is not the right word, more like a reduction in torture, but there is still torture.

  • Thank you very much.

You must be proud and very happy, because before seeing your video I was totally unaware of ENS and about to go for a turbinate reduction surgery within the next year. Your video totally made me change my mind! Thanks a lot. Really.

@ other ENS sufferer: PLEASE spread the voice about this disease, because it looks like surgeons and people don't know that it is way worse than the average turbinate hypertrophy.

More videos like this on youtube means more people like me saved.

  • bro i cant tell you how lucky you are .

I wish some1 had warned me before I had mine done.

  • Thanks CM. I'm goin to post my video soon.

  • On another note, it is quite frustrating dealing with people who don't understand nasal suffering. I've been told to "get over it" and even been called a faker. I hope more awarness can be raised about ENS as well as the many other DEBILITATING nasal conditions that exist.

  • Thank you, I had a septoplasty + turbinate reduction for my constant blocked nose. And now 6 months post op and my turbinates are still almost always swollen (causing inability to concentrate, headaches and what not). My doctor suggested the idea of another surgery but thanks to this video I'll first ask him about other treatment methods.

  • Thanks for your valuable information.

  • sometimes the first symptoms come years after the surgery it can tike for the tissue to degenerate. Just curious were you informed that the riks were you would have a life of torture. Several people have committed suicide because of what these butchers did. Also several people are in mental institutions because of this. And other people are happy and relieved when they get cancer, because the torture is coming to an end. So if you know that was the risks would you still roll the dice.

  • Only had my inferior turbinates taken out, not all of them. Really helped my sleep apnea! Ist time in my life I could breath through my nose while horizontal! My turbinates had been distended by repeated, forceful blowing of my nose so they were dangling down & acting like a valve that swung shut when I lay down. What did hurt me VERY BADLY was earlier cauterization of my sinuses to stop my continually running nose. Now it does not run. It PAINFULLY swells because the snot has no where to go.

  • thank you for the video. the ents we should not even call them doctors they do not deserv that.i had two operations the first one gave me a diviede sptom and the other one opend the nose too much thank allah it did not give me empty nose.

  • I am an ENT physician, practicing for 20+ years. I was taught not to remove middle turbinates or lower turbinates. The result of removing the "natural humidifiers" is also called "Atrophic Rhinitis." For those of you that have this, contacting the AAO-HNS to push education of those few physicians that continue to do this procedure, and a position statement. Changing the behavior of physicians can most quickly be done through pressure from colleagues.

THANK YOU FOR THIS IMPORTANT VIDEO!

  • Excellent video. I pray that the medical community will listen to your video and book and put an end to practices that destroy the nasal turbinates and mucosa. Thank you for all the time and effort you've given to helping others!

  • This is an excellent video. I hope this voice which represents so many suffering people is listened to by the Public, Government and Medical Community.

I would like to add to the first words of this video. This problem is endemic across the Developed World, not just America. The same Developed World which by its own description is so successful at improving through progress and yet has failed in this area of ENT Medicine for various reasons which Chris has decsribed well here.

  • Nice job. I have had "conservative" surgery on my turbinates and it has caused me unimaginable suffering.

  • Thanks Chris Great job! I too am a fellow ENS sufferer. Surgery 14 months ago. I went in for just a polypectomy and the ENT did a "standard procedure" instead. Removing most of my inferior turbinates and half of my left middle turbinate and my septum half removed then fused together again. I suffer extreme sleep problems, thick mucous below larynx and inability to moisten, filter and warm air properly. I am on SSDI now. CANNOT work. My dreams are destroyed. ENTs are too Arrogant! Trust in Jesus!

  • Bravo Chris, you did an excellent job of describing ENS. You brought many symptoms to mind that I also suffer with but I just could not remember to include at the time I was videotaping my testimony. This is such a horrible horrible disease. I pray many more of the members of Empty Nose Syndrome will come forth and tell of their experiences. It is such an important topic to bring to the public's attention and hopefullly get us much needed help.

  • Thanks Chris.

A powerful testimony and a thorough account of Empty Nose Syndrome and the conspiracy of silence amongst many ENT doctors that is nothing less than criminal as it is a serious and deliberate infringement of patient rights as agreed upon in the Nirenberg code.
