Awesome video! I loved at 2:36 the lightning strike then the appearance of a suction vortex almost instantly - like you scripted it. FYI, the tornado was confirmed EF1.
@jackseh Ya I know dude. This was a real record breaker. Hundreds of people lost their lives, thousands of houses shredded up like cheese, power was out for 4 months, and my fucking dog is still missing.
Awesome video man! The beginning shows perfect inflow into the rapidly rotating wallcloud. At 2:30 in, you can clearly see the developing tornado. I couldn't tell if at that time it was on the ground, but I wouldn't doubt it. The video definitely showed rapid ascent of warm moist air into the mesocyclone/ rapidly rotating wall cloud. Hard to get great shots like these in Michigan.
I remember this on june 8th, i live in rochester hills and we got hit by a tornado too, EF0 as far as i can tell, maybe an EF1, had no power for 6 days
@JohnAP2 Take a look at the video again you dumb ass.. It's about the most sissy of a fucking tornado I have ever seen..Try living in Iowa or Kansas you moron.
i was at a party ane we were all in the back of the house listening to this kick ass band when all the lightning made them stop and then we say that thing it was insain i was right down the street on burnam ave. and i live right on wentworth across the express way by you and i just cant believe how lucky we got!
Man.. that day was horrible. I got 2 friends that live over there in Lansing, about 1-2 minutes from Ridge and Torrence. I use to work over there too. I just moved to Hammond, IN into a 3 story apt. building.. and when the storm was closer to here, i looked out there window and a funnel cloud formed right outside of it. Lets just say, I was scared shitless.. That day was something tho. Where are you exactly when you were recording this?
This video depicts a supercell that is producing the 8th tornado of the day on 6/7/08. The storms on 8/4/08 were spawned from a bowed echo mesoscale convective system... a continuous line of thunderstorms spanning many miles with long duration. Low level circulations near the leading edge of the line can create brief spin ups, or non-supercell tornadoes.
In short, while the 8/4 storm was devastating, we were VERY LUCKY the 6/7 storm didn't produce a continuous EF3+ tornado it easily could have.
i remember this day and the 8th that there were MANY tornadoes in the Illinois area & here in northwest IN b/c i had to leave our park. ppl were driving by telling us there wuz a tornado coming our way....never happened tho
yeah we got lucky with this one. where was this filmed at? i was actually in munster community hospital on the 4th floor watching this crap, munster didnt get hit all. but going home you started seeing the branches all over wentworth
Judging by the landmarks I'd say Bernice Road & Wentworth Avenue in Lansing, IL. According to the NOAA, the last of the 8 tornadoes this cell produced was a brief touch down at 179th & Wentworth. No doubt that is what was captured with this footage.
haaaaa this is funny. i was at a softball game right by the police station at the complex where it touched down and we all hadta sit in metal dugouts... fun shit. hahaha my house is right down the street from where this vid is taken... this was right by wentworth, correct?
I remember this storm. I was trapped in the dark at K-mart in Lansing IL.

It looks like you're along Bernice Rd, just west of Wentworth.

wow i didnt understand a word you said but yea we were lucky.

They should've hit Flint/Detroit instead of Lansing, Lansing is a good city. I miss my hometown at haslett.
qwandiddy 3 years ago
This was Lansing, Illinois not Michigan. And no, nobody was killed nor was there significant property damage from this storm.
However, last week on 8/4 the people in Griffith, Indiana (about 9 miles from Lansing, IL) weren't as fortunate.
