  • I love it!!!!!!!

  • BRAVOOOO!!!! *applause*

  • amazing, you did an excellent job. : )

  • Impressive work. Is that an 8-course or a 7-course? I can't see with the vid quality as is.

  • wunderbar! that really is a lovely piece... and your playing certainly made it all the better... who made you lute? i've wanted to learn lute for a while, i just can't find one...

  • always wanted to play the lute......one day maybe, for the time being I'll stick with my electric guitar. Nice song, awesomely played dude !!

  • Pavana alla venetiana!

  • Like! A thousand times like!

  • Uno strumento raffinato, dal suono superbo. I miei complimenti.

  • so what is the difference between a baroque lute and a renaissance lute? (besides the amount of strings used to play the two instruments) Please explain to me!!

  • @igotsmoshedify ok , i'm just guessing but, i think the baroque lute has more deep sound, and i think ypu would use a thumb pick as well.

  • @SerathGodOfRock thanks. helped a little :D

  • @igotsmoshedify no problem.

  • Are you using a 6-course or what? You are so good!!!!

  • Hey - I loved your lute lessons,

Any chance of you doing a tablature for this? I would love to learn to play it!!

    Thanks!

  • @weirdgeordie I have the tablature, pm me.

  • GREAT

  • That was great!

  • I've been working on this song for about 2 weeks now and boy is it difficult, I've pieced together a good portion of the song, but to be able to play as quickly and as consistently as you...I can't imagine how much practice that will take hehe. However I shall strive, with your playing ability as the final prize!

  • @markskatz thank you very much! :)

  • This is almost identical to the Arabic instrument called Oud! cool!

  • Outstanding!

  • Well done!

  • se mi imparo a suonare la chitarra saprò suonare anche questo splendido strumento?

  • How did you learn?

  • Excellent performance! It is highly acceptable and expected to play Pavanes and other ancient dance forms faster than they would have been played in their day. Today, older music will have to please the ear first and maybe the foot later. Once again, a wonderful rendition, played effortlessly. Thank you.

  • My favourite lute clip on youtube, played with a "brio" that really suits the piece. I recently started learning to play the lute and I hope to be able to play this one day!

  • Bravo! Ottima espressività e tecnica!

  • can you send me the lute tablature please? thank you a lot.

    p.s: BRAVOOOOOOO

  • @Mr98giuliano You can download the tablature from Sarge Gerbode's brilliant lute tab repository, I tried to put a link in, but youtube doesn't seem to allow that. Search for "Sarge Gerbode" on google, the first link will probably be the tab site and you will find what you are looking for (and much more!). I think this is the first version of the pavana alla venitiana, which is number 11 in the original manuscript, but I could easily be wrong.

  • @DikranMarsupial I followed your directions to the Sarge Gerbode's site, however I was not able to find the said tablature for pavana alla venitiana, could you possibly help me out a little more?

  • @DikranMarsupial ok, thank you very much!!!!

  • I want a lute so badly. I cant find one any where.

  • beautiful. thank you for sharing.

  • Very nice! To be honest, I had never heard of a lute before until I played Morrowind.

I searched it here out of curiosity.

  • are the lute strings hard on the fingers... because I dont like the feeling of guitar strings...

  • I want to learn the lute soo bad.....Too expensive though :(

  • sounds great, im glad people are keeping this alive

  • Coool! Middle-aged feeling! :)

  • Beautiful! Very nice!

  • you should be a bard and sing about tales of some adventure or something!

  • I've heard of a lute but never actually heard one, it sounds pretty cool!

  • It looks like my mandolin, I wonder if I can play it with my mandolin, too? Maybe not :(

  • How many courses are there on this one ? Eight, I should say, but I may be wrong.

    Very nice playing.

  • you should try out for america's got talent or somethin this other deuche bag was on there with a lute and he sucked you would win like river dance meets lute band and other lute like instruments

  • hey are there tabs for this

  • Really cool. For dance perfect

  • you are amazing wtf

  • so badass!

  • awesome! :)

  • Cool! Lutes have a magical sound.

  • good player nothing like punk rock though

  • Very musically played!

  • He looks like Serj Tankian

  • @Zenophage holy crap ur right!

  • too fast for being a pavana, isnt?

  • @1972jewish If you can dance a pavana properly and try to dance it, you'll realize it's played ad the right speed. It's not fast, it's that divisions are fast as hell :)

  • @1972jewish too Jewish for dance instruction? just kidding, shalom to you.

  • ew a jew

  • I picked up the lute because of you! Just learned greensleeves, however the sound is bad, I need to work on technique

  • @markskatz Thank you, your comment fills me with joy; I any little I can do by fooling around here, I am the happiest person in the world. Send me a video of you playing greensleeves!

  • pritty

  • john petrucci playing lute

  • @zemmo90 Can't be. John Petrucci only plays chromatic scales.

  • What a lovely piece!

    ---Yes, we like it! :))))))

  • Oh the lute is such a beautiful instrument...

  • I had to watch this one twice. Brilliant.

  • My favorite video on youtube.

  • @pyramidion Me too! I keep watching this... over and over...

  • @pyramidion me too!

  • Man, did the beatles use these at all, or what about pink floyd?

  • @Qazic12 I saw a pic of Rick Wright holding a dulcimer, but that's as close as it gets. If you want to hear a lute played by a rock band, check out Focus.

  • Thank you. You have inspired me to, in the future after I have learned more classical and progressed as a guitarist, I take up the lute.

  • oh! how very skillful!

  • Magnificent instrument a la the guitar & harp.

  • Comment removed

  • que beleza!

  • That was amazing.

  • I love when people play dances so that you could actually dance to them - wonderful rhythmic sense.

  • Increible, fantástico.

  • You played with so much sense rhythmic structures and the harmonics as well, it felt just like reading this piece and understanding it at first sight. Thank you.

  • Nice! Yea, I can dance to that pavane!

  • Brava!

  • very lively, bravo !

  • muy bien felicidades desde Mèxico, q bien tocas el laud.

  • i love this, i wish it were longer

  • Great tune and nice performance.

    Thank you

  • Wow that is really amazing:D

  • 0:46 0:52 is my faverite part!

  • All I can say is WONDERFUL!

  • Nice music, but I don't think it really sounds like a lute.

  • very nice!

  • wow!! i want lute so much!! i can't find the info though to help me learn of it.

what do YOU consider the "standard" tuning? i know they have many

    how cheap do they come?

how many courses should a beginner get?(not new to strings or frets, just lute)

    how many courses is yours?

"movable" frets sends chills down my spine. are there lutes with fixed frets?

if not would i be able to set the frets myself? or would i have to take it to a professional?

    thanks for considering!

  • hey, i just purchased a lute from the Early Music Shop in the UK, which I'm sure you could get shipped to the US. It was about £500...so what like $900? It's an 8 course, but really you only need to bother with the first 6 courses, (tuned like a guitar, wich a capo on the 3rd fret and the third string dropped down a semitone) the two basses are just for resonance and dont add any difficulty really.

  • ... you can change how you tune the bass strings to suit the piece you're playing. The frets don't really move unless you force them, I put little pencil marks on the neck so if they do move, they can be moved back to the right place easily. Hope thats enough info for you, PM me if you want to know more, I'd be happy to help!

  • Very nice, i would love to learn to play Lute

  • Gorgeous!

  • I've never played a lute, but I play guitar/bass usually. Does playing the lute feel similar to playing guitar?

  • absolutely not! :) totally different...

  • This performance has inspired me beyond description. This simple piece is one of my favorite musics ever written.
