  • That was nice man

  • I am getting one for my birthday, I cannot wait :D

And lovely playing by the way. :)

  • amazing!

  • Kick arse!!!! Love it!!!

  • Brilliant, love it :) I think you just inspired me to learn how to play thanks for sharing!

  • Oh my gosh, it has all the awesomeness of a guitar but that sweet folky dulcimer sound. I can't stop listening to it!

  • I love the tunes you played but it seems that "Old Joe" is a different tune then "Old Joe Clark". Can you offer any clarification? Thanks! And great work.

  • @bikedancesailsleep Yes, they're two completely different tunes. This one's an Irish jig.

    Greetings.

  • Do you have a website? Interesting! Possibly order one?

  • @lowellirish Hi, I have a blog where I have pics of some of the instruments I've made. The link is in my profile.

    greetings.

  • @peniguisel And how would I view your blog? Please send me the URL? Thanks!

  • wow theres great sound out of that one

  • can I ask you how much time do ya need to make one dulcimer and how much does one worth, do you have a website?

  • TABS!??! lol xD

  • @HitaroX No idea. Possibly sheet music at the Session.org

  • @peniguisel hi, i notice that your dulcitar had 4 stings while most others have 3 strings, would it sound the same on a 3 string?

  • That sounds great, I am thinking to get buzuki, maybe i should get one of these.

    nice video:D

  • Interesting. Your design is remarkably similar to what I was going to build. To you sell these instruments?

  • A very interesting instrument. Amazing sound. Very well played.

  • What tuning are you using and what key are you playing?

Can you make the dulcitar with geared tuners instead of friction pegs?

  • @JollyJakester I0m using Dad and that tune is in d major, then the second one in e dorian. Yes, I'm making them with dulcimer tuning gears now.

  • This sounds great! Is the tuning on your dulcitar similar to that on the strumstick? And does it have paired strings like a mandolin or Irish bouzouki?

  • @AngelusMerkel Thanks. Just the first course is doubled. The tuning is Dad.

  • where did you find the sheet music for this?

  • This makes me want to do the highland fling, though I'm not sure what it is. Great work and a beautiful instrument.

Another dulcitar lover here. I got my first one only a few months ago and it brings a higher pleasure to pain ratio than almost any other stringed instrument I have played. It was made by a guy I never met, Ray Jacobs who made it in 1989. It is the ugliest and most beautiful stringed instrument I have owned. It looks like a shoebox but it is really a treasure chest.

    Keep pickin!

  • @AsylumAvenue Ray Jacobs was my 4th grade teacher!

  • where did you find the instructions for how to play this wonderful song?

  • I didn't follow any instructions. Just learned it first on the tin whistle or any other instrument and then tried to play it with my dulcitar.

  • I'm a singer and had no desire to play an instrument, but I bought a dulcitar back in October because sometimes I can't get a band to play with me... It's an incredibly easy instrument to learn and has a great sound for blues and folk styles... and it's loud and it looks great. I hope to see thousands of people playing 'em soon.

  • Hi again I've just read where you said that you make and sell these instruments ? Where are you based and approx how much for a basic model, Thanks.

  • Hi, I make the in Chili. It's $300 for the basic model (without considering shipping and case).

    Greetings.

  • Where can i go to order one of these? I love the rich dark colour of the one you're playin..

  • @keladsitt I make them. Contact me if you want.

    Bye.

  • Hi Well you sure make it look easy, great music with great " Lift " in it, thanks for sharing, Le gach dea gui, beir bua leis an ceol !

  • how might I go about buying one of these?

  • thank you, nice

  • its fab, i have a dulcitar myself! how do you play that one

  • Thanks,

Just learn it slowly and then up to tempo...it's easy on the dulcitar.

  • why not just play a banjo?

  • Why not just play a dulcitar?

  • Beautiful looking instrument, great playing.

  • I love the sound of this instrument playing irish tunes- I'm an Irish fiddler, to hear a jig on this strange instrument, makes me want to get one and try too!

  • Thanks for the comment.

By the way, I make and sell this type of instruments.

    Greetings.

  • Hi that was just great. Could you tell me the scale length please ? I think I might have to build one of these. Yours is the nicest sounding Ive heard so far.

  • Hi, Thank you very much.

The scale lenght I use is 64,5 cm, just like a guitar, so I can use guitar strings and have a proper tension.

  • Hi Lovely sound may I ask How is Dulcimer tunned

    Best Wishes

    Nick

  • Thanks....I tuned it Dad.

  • Nice! Do you have, or can you recommend, tabs for this?

  • Hi, sorry I don't.

    Thanks.

  • No worries. I'll see what I can come up with. I did find a tab for Old Joe Clark, though.

  • Oh, BTW, does that piece have a name? Maybe I can find a tab of it by that.

  • Wow!

  • Excellent. 5*

  • Great work! Sound like an actual instrument, unlike so many of the McNally's and copies!

  • I agree. That's one of the reasons I bought one from Smokey Mountain Dulcimer Works. They're less twangy and obnoxiously trebley than the McNally, and half the price.

  • Sounds great! Really great! Theese irish jigs are really something;) Well done!

  • That is wonderful. I see behind you,you are in the process of making another one.how much are the dulcitar?

  • Hi, thanks. Yes, I'm making some dulcitars these days. It costs 200 dollars (without the case and the shipping). You can write me to my inbox so we can get in touch.

  • i really anjoyed the tone. wish i could get more of that out of one of my old 6 strings. maybe i need to build a cigar box

  • Nice sound and nice crafting, I also make this instrument, visit my channel I call it the EZYstick.

  • how much you charge for one? my mountain broke an i want one like yours in the vid!its amazing!

  • Hi, sounds great!. You say its your design but did you build it to?

  • Hi. Yes I build this type of instruments as well. I make fiddles and bows mainly. Check the ones I'm now selling...here's a video with one of those (playing the tune "tripping up the stairs" on my chanel).

    Thanks a lot

  • Hi

Cant stay away its that good. You have 4 tuning pegs, but mention tuning Dad, does mean you are only using 3 strings. Forgive the ignorance. Cheers.

  • Hi...the first (dd) course has two strings in unison (like the mandolin or bouzouki) and the second (A) and third (D) just one.

    Thanks for watching it.

  • Great video! Much admiration for your playing and instrument building talents! Have you tuned your instrument to a modal key? You mention in your notes that the instrument is "modal like a tin whistle" Didn't you mean "diatonic?" (the tin whistle has a diatonic scale like the dulcimer but is in a major (not modal) key as is a standard tuned dulcimer). Anyway, well done! Look forward to seeing more!

  • Thanks. I mean that you can play in D major and G major and the modes used in Irish music based on them, like the tin whistle. And yes, it's diatonic as well.

  • This the best I have heard the "strumstick" would love to know more about this instrument and how it was made.

    Great playing, foot tapping.

  • Thanks a lot. I'm making some of those guitar dulcimers. I can send you some pictures if you want.

  • Amazing! I checked out what I believe is your website- nice pics, but no prices! Any chance of buying one of your *extremely* nice dulcitars?

  • excellent!
