Bush passed tax cuts when he took office that reduced the lowest wage bracket from 15% to 10%. So, any guesses on what happens when the Bush tax cuts expire? The tax increase that Obama will put in place (should he become President) will affect everyone. Many Americans have missed the point that President Bush's tax cuts (across the board) were temporary. The current tax rates that we all are paying (regardless of income) will increase in 2010 when Bush's policy expires... unless the new President extends those cuts. Barack Obama has NOT mentioned one word of extending these cuts; however, John McCain has.

I got a question, can someone help me out please. If I build a home and lets say it cost me $150,000 to build it, and then I sell it for $200,000. The 15% capital gain tax I pay, would that be of the $50,000 profit I got? Which is $7,500 tax after sale. Or is my capital gain tax going to be from $200,000, the sale of the house. Which I will have to pay $30,000 in taxes, and only take $20,000 profit. Also the %15 capital gain tax is that all across the USA, or is it different from state to state?
If your selling your primary residence then you fall under the exemption. If your selling a fix up , spec , vaction home etc... then your rate is 15% on the profit. Under Obama it would almost double. Because under socialism profit is a bad word and all proceeds go to the government for redistribution ....
I think you are wrong about not paying capital gain tax if you sell your primary residence, I think you still have to pay capital gain tax if you sell for more then you bought/build, unless you lived there for 2 years.

This chart is misleading because it does not show in what income ranges the taxes will increase. I heard the increase was for those making over $250,000. Sounds fair to me. If you make 250,000. or more, what are you complaining about? I think you will still be able to pay your mortgage and buy groceries.

The "Fair Tax Plan" is anything but fair. the average worker spends a much higher percentage of his money on the things that are taxed, while the rich, can save a much higher percentage of their income. so once again, the rich get taxed almost nothing comparatively, while the little guy carries the load. Republicans are really good at naming things in a way that makes them hard to oppose (i.e. fair tax,pro-life,no child left behind) but the fact is that their plans screw the real joe six-pack.
have you even read the "FAIRTAX" plan? It does nothing of the sort. Supposed "rich" people spend WAY more than us regular folk, and therefore would pay WAY more in taxes. Not to mention things like clothing, food, and everyday neccecities are exempt. That leaves the poor OUT of the equation. Do a little reading and then spout off.
Obama wants to raise the minimum wage to $9.50. This means that he will make some people a little richer, while others will lose their jobs, causing unemployment and the number of people on welfare to rise. Also, the total manufacturing cost of all products made in the US will go up... making it cheaper to import parts and to buy imported goods.
Wall St. Journal is wrong. Obama wants to lower taxes on anyone earning less than $250,000 per year. If you earn less than that, your taxes will actually be lower than when Regan was in office!
What Obama wants is income redistribution and to raise taxes on the achivers of america i remember the clinton years i felt his pain also as i had to pay taxes every year while he was in office and Obama will do the same

Well, let me get this straight. I am going to get some sort of tax cut. Yesterday I also received a notice from my employer that my hours are being cut. So after all is said and done, I think I am right back where I started from. Factoring in rising state and local taxes and inflation, I will actually suffer a net loss. Did I ever believe that the government would allow me to keep more of my earnings? Well, I had hope but that change is not happening.

Bush cut all tax brackets. For example the lowest wage bracket was increased from 11% to 15% under Clinton. Bush passed tax cuts when he took office that reduced the lowest wage bracket from 15% to 10%. So, any guesses on what happens when the Bush tax cuts expire? The tax increase that Obama will put in place (should he become President) will affect everyone. Many Americans have missed the point that President Bush's tax cuts (across the board) were temporary. The current tax rates that we all are paying (regardless of income) will increase in 2010 when Bush's policy expires... unless the new President extends those cuts. Barack Obama has NOT mentioned one word of extending these cuts; however, John McCain has.

Interesting point, but although on paper those tax cuts were 'temporary', Washington had every intention of extending those taxes. If you earn less that 250k then you won't see any increase in taxes - isn't that a good thing. At the end of the day, McCain's policies are the same as Bushes policies. He makes it sound good by telling you all how much you will be getting back, but he fails to tell you what you are going to have to spend elsewhere. Read his tax plan. Use your head for something other than growing hair.

The tax would be for Net PROFIT over $250,000, So lets see. Joe buys the business. Say it earns $450,000 Gross. Then Joe takes the Salary of his employees out, say he has 2 at $50,000, that drops the income to $350,000, then you take out expenses. Say another $50,000 Gas, Advertising, equipment, etc..., Next, Joe pays himself $249,000. Leaving a Company profit of $51,000. I got a question, can someone help me out please. If I build a home and lets say it cost me $150,000 to build it, and then I sell it for $200,000. The 15% capital gain tax I pay, would that be of the $50,000 profit I got? Which is $7,500 tax after sale. Or is my capital gain tax going to be from $200,000, the sale of the house. Which I will have to pay $30,000 in taxes, and only take $20,000 profit. Also the %15 capital gain tax is that all across the USA, or is it different from state to state?

If your selling your primary residence then you fall under the exemption. If your selling a fix up , spec , vaction home etc... then your rate is 15% on the profit. Under Obama it would almost double. Because under socialism profit is a bad word and all proceeds go to the government for redistribution ....

I think you are wrong about not paying capital gain tax if you sell your primary residence, I think you still have to pay capital gain tax if you sell for more then you bought/build, unless you lived there for 2 years.

In 2004, Small businesses created 100% (1.86 million) of new jobs in the US.
Big businesses cut 181,000 jobs.

The value of a currency is not based on one indvidual or even president. To credit the appreciation of the dollar or blame the devaluation of the dollar on one person has no basis for a valid argument. In recent weeks the dollar has been appreciating relative to other major currencies.

(1) Nobody is saying no taxation, we're saying no increase in federal programs that lead to higher taxes on ANYONE!
(2) Read the 10th Amendment to the US Constitution: "The powers not delegated to the United States by the Constitution, nor prohibited by it to the States, are reserved to the States respectively, or to the people."

First, nowhere in the Constitution does it say that we are a capitalist nation. Second, Obama will not turn the country into "a communist" nation. The difference is that Obama's plan requires those making more than $250k/yr to pay a slightly higher marginal tax rate, while the rest of average working families get a tax break. You have to have taxation: infrastructure (roads, bridges, fire dpts., emergency shelters, etc.) aren't paid for by Santa Claus.

That slightly "marginal"rate as you say it almost 10% MORE than what the highest bracket pays out. They pay out more, so that those at the bottom, WHO DON"T EVEN PAY ANYTHING, get checks...in addition to the damn welfare, utility subsidization, food stamps that they already get, WHILE PAYING FOR NOTHING!

One of the saddest aspects of all is that our children, friends and loved ones, parents, grandparents and great-grandparents fought and died in many wars to destroy the kind of soul-destroying, freedom-robbing thuggery that is on the march here. They bravely fought to preserve freedom and democracy here & around the world.

This chart is misleading because it does not show in what income ranges the taxes will increase. I heard the increase was for those making over $250,000. Sounds fair to me. If you make 250,000. or more, what are you complaining about? I think you will still be able to pay your mortgage and buy groceries.

If the Bush tax cuts expire, and the average $40,000/yr wage earner sees his/her taxes increase by just 2% ($800), how can Obama possibly justify a $500 wealth redistribution check as a tax "decrease"? Also, Obama wants to tax profits on home sales at 28%. McCain will not profits on home sales under $500,000. How is this an Obama "tax cut" again?

The "Fair Tax Plan" is anything but fair. the average worker spends a much higher percentage of his money on the things that are taxed, while the rich, can save a much higher percentage of their income. so once again, the rich get taxed almost nothing comparatively, while the little guy carries the load. Republicans are really good at naming things in a way that makes them hard to oppose (i.e. fair tax,pro-life,no child left behind) but the fact is that their plans screw the real joe six-pack.

Obama wants to raise the minimum wage to $9.50. This means that he will make some people a little richer, while others will lose their jobs, causing unemployment and the number of people on welfare to rise. Also, the total manufacturing cost of all products made in the US will go up... making it cheaper to import parts and to buy imported goods.
