  • Who is that idiot saying Dessay's E-Flat sounds like a struggle? I dare say she has made more money from her E-Flat than anyone else in the last 20 years and her E-Flat is a totally exciting compliment to the rest of her Lucia. Completely different placement to Sutherland's and lets face it... a top e-flat is hard work for anyone at the end of this mad scene and I don't hear a bad one among this compilation.

  • OK, the last bit you added is a total overkill. I laughed a lot.

  • Fascinating - many thanks for creating and posting.

  • Amazing! i love the end! :)

  • Let's all just sign off on the fact that Sutherland had the best Eb of any human. I'm happy that Dessay is able to hit it but it does sound like a struggle for her.

  • @babydrane Agreed.

  • I find Dessay's top notes to be more powerful than Sutherland's a lot of times, despite Dessay being a lyric and Sutherland being a dramatic. maybe it's because of natalie's use of more head voice than whistle, unlike Sutherland's top notes which tend to have better tone because of her crystaline whistle register, but lack in volume compared to dessay's.

  • Screamy Ebs =S

She should have retired after the surgery so as to be remembered as a good singer, what is surely not the case now.

  • First of all, Dessay is one of the most active Lucias in our time. She is a great Lucia. Lets get that straight. Second of all, the mess up is truly is not really a mess up. Once you think about it it makes sence. Even though it might be, she plays it off really well. But then again, it might not have been a mistake

  • She doesn't smoke!

  • Ma non sentite che sono tutti urlati e calanti??

Don't you hear (feel/understand) that they are all "failing" (calanti) and screamed!!!

  • Sono d'accordo.

  • @bettiniroma

Uno con le orecchie finalmente! Sono una massa di ignoranti che assistono compiaciuti a un'insulto alla lirica.

  • pazzia! Madness Almost vulgar the ending but thrilling though!

  • Kinda like Callas!

  • @ChrisStockslager

dessay is like the opposite of callas vocally. I love both, but Dessay sounds perpetually like a 20 year old disney princess while Callas had the timbre of a dramatic mezzo.

  • @raigekimaru Disney princess ---- WIN!!!! --- Yeah, they are completely at different ends of the vocal spectrum, but Callas and Dessay have both overstepped the bounds of their vocal talents and destroyed what was once glorious.

  • @ChrisStockslager

    I think that's a fair statement

  • Very cleverly done.

Her Eb's are incredible, but often her approach is not!

  • This might sound really odd but i think the live versions of the E flat are better than the studio version from the italian arias cd. Even the complete live performances sound better than the studio versions. Thats a nice thing. I will support this genius Dessay until death and beyond.

  • Her E-Flats are better than Sutherland's. Probably because Sutherland was a dramatic and Dessay is a lyric.

  • Dessay is brilliant compared to a similar compilation of Sutherland's E-flats! Dessay is much more consistant with tone and pitch.

  • her bastille sept 9 2nd was the best omg i didnt know she messed up. i got to see her in san francisco she was awesome.

  • my favourite one is the one 'In Recital 2005', but I think that this recital, was in Paris (TCE) in 2003

  • the first recital she made after the 2nd surgery was in may 2005.

  • I love the "mess-up" you included! I was so confused when I first heard it a while back! ;)

  • Haha! I remember listening to the live broadcast of that night, and my heart stopped when she came in early! I got so nervous for her!

  • Come to think of it now, i think it was planned. The french horns aren't supposed to double the voice line at the part where she comes in early, then they play it when she is supposed to. Its not in the score! I think she did it because she needed to breathe.

  • I still think it was a mistake.

  • @sour7lemon I agree with you, i think it was planned

  • she has that end-gasp which is unpleasant; sometimes she sounds cat-like. And remember, she doesn't trill BEFORE the e-flat, like Sutherland. Sutherland still reigns!!

  • I like her additions in some of them! I've never heard anyone do anything like that!

  • THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK!

This is wonderful! I love it!

  • You're welcome!
