No, nature is about competition. Winners stay alive, losers die out. A balance forms, not because different species work together, but because they are 'balanced' in competition. Of course, as evolution doesn't stop the balance keeps getting changed as losers who can't adapt go extinct and new, better species evolve to take their niche in the ecosystem.

Nature is the most vicious arms race imaginable, every living thing fighting for survival every second of every day, with the losers being eaten, starved and wiped from history. We, humans, are at the top of this constant war, and exploit other life-forms for our own survival just like every other species always has done and always will do.

As a modern industrialized nation, we, the people who live in it, have never really had to fight to survive. We live in luxury, and this brings to attention all the things that make it possible.

The idea that all humans would disappear, without taking the rest of the world with us at least, is unlikely but it's still an interesting idea. That caused the climate (weather) to change in Africa. Believe it or not, Africa used to be 100% rainforest. There are a lot of animals in the rainforest. Some of those being various species of monkeys. Monkeys, as I'm sure you know love hanging out in trees. Well... as Africa began to dry up, more and more trees began to die out. (Kinda like now with global warming, but we'll save that for tomorrow's class.)
As the trees began to disappear, the monkeys (who normally could spend days on end traveling from tree to tree) began traveling more on the ground. They had no choice. The rainforests were turning into deserts. As the monkeys spent more time on the ground their bodies began to adapt. They began to walk and run upright. It was easier for them.
As first we were building our homes and "cities" around what was the last of the trees within the deserts. (Homes today are made of the same thing...wood.) Standing upright gave us for the first time a real view of the sky. The longer we had to sit around and look up... the more we thought about it, until finally one day we asked, "Why?" -that was all it took my friend. WHAM

What would it be like? Watch 'The Quiet Earth'. For any individual survivors, it would be a nightmare. You'd go mad in a month. For the planet, it would be a well deserved rest from centuries of wanton destruction and ill-treatment by the worst species on the Earth, the only one to practise evil, the so-called 'enlightened' human race. The world has seen cataclysms and mass extinctions that dwarfs anything we human do. humans won't develop faster than light star travel, since humans are 1) amazingly retarded 2) primitive and 3) murderous and suicidal. I think it's very likely that we will have at least a couple of major wars and IF technological civilization survives you would see us slowly start to colonize the solar system - terraform Mars and perhaps colonize some of the outer moons of the solar system.
Interstellar colonization will be done, if at all - not by Cap't. Kirk but by descendants who deserve to go to the stars - by living between them - taming the wild darkness in between as we go.

As a modern industrialized nation, we, the people who live in it, have never really had to fight to survive. We live in luxury, and this brings to attention all the things that make it possible.
i.e., people working the pumps in the subways, road work, structural maintenance, grocery stores, weeding structures, cleaners, etc.

The idea that all humans would disappear, without taking the rest of the world with us at least, is unlikely but it's still an interesting idea. It is very unscientific to assume that a species which exists naturally from the Saharan dessert to the Alaskan tundra will be the next one to go extinct. If the lens that this "science" is so unnaturally contorted it is no telling what other uneccissary complexities they have introduced into their calculations. They should be reminded of Ocham's razor. They should stop embarrasing themselves while trying to promote their "evil human" concept.

The idea doesn't assume humans as a species would be the next to go extinct or that we're evil, only it tries to express the monsterous force of the natural environment. However, what people don't seem to understand is the scale of time in which mother nature works. Because of that we take on a sort of 'out of site out of mind' approach to all this in our daily lives. We create and support systems and such unnatural environments that are so out of whack with the real system we inhabit.

actually, I read on a newsweek article about this book that a global effort would have to be for everyone to no longer have children or each couple limited to one child, therefore human life would lead to an apocalyptic end. Another was for everyone to got to space or for a human specific disease to be developed.

That caused the climate (weather) to change in Africa. Believe it or not, Africa used to be 100% rainforest. There are a lot of animals in the rainforest. Some of those being various species of monkeys. Monkeys, as I'm sure you know love hanging out in trees. Well... as Africa began to dry up, more and more trees began to die out. (Kinda like now with global warming, but we'll save that for tomorrow's class.)

As the trees began to disappear, the monkeys (who normally could spend days on end traveling from tree to tree) began traveling more on the ground. They had no choice. The rainforests were turning into deserts. As the monkeys spent more time on the ground their bodies began to adapt. They began to walk and run upright. It was easier for them.

Standing upright gave us for the first time a real view of the sky. What you're eluding to within the word "god" is the energy that is the universe itself. Infinity so to speak.
