When did I ever blame European policies? What I'm pointing out is that the "successful international models" that you applaud so much, on their best days, are no better than America is, now. For years, countries like France and Germany have had a steady unemployment rate of 10%.

The US, on the other hand, has had 4-6% for years, and only recently hit 10%. In other words, it took the US having a major financial crisis in order for the Europeans to achieve some parity. Hardly "successful".

We have those types of programs already here in America {medicare, medicade, social security, & welfare} and guess what...they're broke! And our Pres is a socialist. He wants a single payer plan. My county was founded on liberty and freedom. We don't want of Gov getting their hands on 1/6 of our economy. They'll ruin it.

Every economic system has peaks and valleys. Here in the US we are in a valley and we will come out of it. We have been using this economic system {free market} for approx 240 years so I'll stay with it, tank you very much. I don't want stagnant job growth like Europe has had because of their socialistic economies.

And the Great Depression, as it was called here in the US, was prolonged because of our Government trying to intervene in the "free market." WW2 got us out of it not our Gov.

Historically, government regulation locks down the economy, keeping it where it's at. In theory, then, it would be good to have a free market to let it grow, and then when it gets large, regulate to maintain it high. In practice, governments only step in AFTER it has fallen, at which point free it would grow, but constrained it is held low for months/years longer.
