@OUTLAWZ317 Yeah I agree. But the way you get leverage is by moving your feet and staying with your guy. Harvey is a good player who can beat you with a power or finnesse rush. These are the hardest guys to block.

@hisaoawesome He's already considered the best olineman currently in the NFL, and he's not even in his prime yet. Of course he'll go down as top 5 all time. Only injuries could prevent him.
@Basch152 No. Like I said, to say he will be a top 5 all time top offensive lineman is premature. It is reasonable to say that he can become one of the greats, because he is so young and he's one of the best in the NFL right now but you know, it takes a career, not just a few seasons. And most importantly, who has the better players currently in the NFL?(I'll give you a hint, florida is not the answer to any of these questions)
@gdgipson Hell, I did. I live in Detroit, I have been watching Jake Long for his entire career. I remember a the final game of the season vs. Ohio State, in his RSo. year. He drove Bobby Carpenter so hard he broke his ankle.
hey guys join my page on facebook called toney clemens is a crybaby if you are just as pissed as i am about his dumb ass for helping to spread this crap thats going on right now GO BLUE WE WILL GET THROUGH!
Of course he is thats why he was number one pick, thats the only play Derrick Harvey made the whole game, Long simple dominated him on the rest of the game
derrick harvey got his fucking shit blown in! this guy blows seriously he is probably the biggest laziest fucking scumbag in the nfl right now! jacksonville should be shot for taking an awful player with such a high pick!
I remember saying the same thing about that guard when I was watching the game live. I dont know who the defender was though. Long's best block was that pancake on that linebacker but you cant see it here.
OSU definitely owns Michigan, there is no doubt about that. With that being said, that is a sad fact. I think I can speak for all the mid west fans in general when I say I'm tired of Ohio State embarrassing us on the national stage. They do nothing but lose when they play someone good, and if we're honest, they don't just lose either. They get their ass beat. At least Michigan and Wisconsin go out and win their bowl games.
Mike do you know that Mich is 1-4 and WISC is 2 -3 ( And they have played much weaker opponents) in their las 5 bowl games as compared to tOSU's 2-3 ? And they have both been embarrased. Do you watch much football? Because I can't tell.
Obviously this guy doesn't watch much football. Michigan does get their asses beat on a regular basis in bowl games, for the exception of this one. Wisconsin's 2-3 over the last 5, just like OSU, only their 2 wins were in meaningless bowls. OSU has 2 BCS wins, and another that the refs screwed us out of, over the last 5 bowls. Plus, how many Big Ten schools over the last 2+ decades have won a true national championship other than 2002 OSU? 97 Michigan was a split title, Nebraska was better
That may be the dumbest comment I have ever read! Sounds like an OSU fan not giving credit where credit is due. Look at that '97 Michigan team and tell me they were not dominant. They DESTROYED #2 (at the time Penn St.), they were up 20-0 on OSU, That team sent so many players to the NFL it was ridiculous. Nebrasak was nowhere even near that U of M team. Tom Osborne (one of the most respected coaches) calls it quits right in time to receive votes.
so do buckeyes yeah they go to bcs games but get their asses whipped!! id rather not go than get whipped like that..and that one champ u talk about was the worse call pass inter. i ever seen buckeyes robbed the u that yr!! GO BLUE!!
Don't worry, Michigan won't be getting beat in a BCS game anytime soon b/c they won't get there. Take your annual beating from Ohio State and pray you get past ND and MSU to make it to a bowl game this year. Michigan has too much history and too many resources for RR to have them at such a low level.
Tell it to the FUCKER stupid ass LION fan your team shouldn't even be considered colledge its more a little league team that get injured every game I'M supprised that they still have any fans the lions arn't pro the're homos from michagan loving their contact sports!
im curious i turned 14 5 days ago and started lifting for football at the highschool im 6'3 253 run the 40 at a 5'1 i started lifting 2 months ago right now my max bench is 215 and squat is 305 i have long limbs and a bit of a knee problem can i have some advice on anything to make my form better or supplements that might help or if i dont need supplements a good diet. any thing would be great
Bruh you already big for your age at 14 so just keep lifting and your goal should be to get close to 300 lbs by the end of your senior year. Since you're only 14 you're bound to grow a few inches no homo so your body can easily carry that extra weight. Just eat a lot of carbs and drink a lot of protein powder/milk.
derrick harvey fucking blows! he's terrible and his fat slow ass gets blocked out on every single play idk how he was a 1st round pick! fucking jacksonville is such garbage they took him and look what he does for them????? absolutely nothing lmao
well my favorite team is PITT and they have tradtion too I mean 9 national titles is pretty good so you could say the Big East has some tradition too, I know recent years this conference has been down but its not their I mean the Big East got raided by the ACC I mean we used to have a badass conference with Miami ,Virgina Tech, and Boston College. but we are loaded with traditon PITT and Syracuse have traditons even WVU does, even Louisville and Rutgers first college football game played there
SEC has that great history and tradition which basically what I am saying is it has that reputation and it will never lose that, which is why it will always be looked at as the best conference in college football
Then why do they boast the best BCS record among the conferences, not to mention the last 2 national champions? Oh ya the most NFL talent. The SEC is having a down year, yet they have 2 of the best teams in the country, and you can expect them to be 2 of the best for some time. Michigan finally started playing to their potential at the end of last year and came away with one. It happens on any given day, you cant say the SEC sucks or is overrated because the FACTS dont back you up. Homer
I wouldn't put to much stock in that. Most conferences only had one bowl tie in. For instance, the B10 and the Pac10 only sent their champ to the Rose Bowl at the end of the year. No other teams went beyond that.
Can you pin your argument down to one specific claim?
The SEC probably has the most recent success of any conference, but being a flash in the pan doesn't yield tradition.
Tradition isn't just about the wins. It's about the alumni, the player awards, the fans, the championships, the talent, the legendary coaches, memorable games, and the other cool activities that programs have, e.g. dotting the I.
OK so the SEC has games that draw huge crowds, check, the SEC has award winners, check, the SEC has the best coaches of any conference right now, as well some guy from Alabama, was it Bear or Bryant, gee I dont know. There was a great game between Bama and Florida just last week, Im sure there have been a couple of great games with a guy named Bo Jackson, or maybe Herschel Walker, do I have enough room to go through the history of great SEC games? Cmon man, you can have your dot the I.
You have that opinion MauriceXe that the Big 12 is better than the SEC because the SEC has the last two national championships, the last 3 out of five, one of those against Oklahoma and Oklahoma has choked in its last two BCS games?
This year the B12 is the best conference in the nation. 3 legit title contenders came out of that conference, 5 of the top offenses and 3 Heisman worthy QBs.
3 legit title contenders and not a one can beat Florida. You think Oklahoma is going to score 60 against the Gators, wrong, this an SEC Defense not a big 12 Defense. Again this a down year, a year where 2 successful coaches were fired, a down year that still has 2 powerhouses. The SEC is the deepest and best on a more consistent basis. They produce the most talent, they produce the most bowl victories.
You don't think any of those teams can beat FLA? What about the rest of the SEC? If the SEC is just made up of one team, then you just about kill your argument. As does your claim that having only two powerhouses being a good thing. If the conference is down, those teams should have no trouble blowing through the conference and a high ranking is assured. We will see this bowl season.
We will see how OU does against FLA. Personally, I think Texas would do better, because OU has a poor D.
Like I've said its a down year. Florida did blow through the SEC, go and look, they slipped up once against Ole Miss, who plays them tough every season, and is better than you think. Nonetheless the are still a mid level SEC usually towards the bottom, yet they get matched up with Texas Tech this year, one of your so called contenders. Why is that? Why did the 5th Best SEC team in Arkansas get matched up with the Mizzou last year, the second best Big 12 team. You know why.
I do know why actually. It is due to the bowl selection and the order of the bowl selections. Obviously, if they could, they would match up each and every team with equal records, but its not possible.
Ya and everybody goes after the SEC teams first, thats why when you get to the Cotton Bowl you get the second or third best Big 12 Team against the 5th or 6th best SEC team.
Consider Illinois vs USC in the Rose Bowl. The #1 team in the Pac-10 vs. the #3 team in the B10. This match-up should NOT have been made, and not because of the results.
Blame the traditional bowl tie-ins. USC should have played Georgia, and Illinois should have played Hawaii. Although I think USC would have put 50 on GA, and Illinois the same against Hawaii, the match-ups would have better reflected the BCS rankings and the conference rankings.
Your insane if you think USC would have put 50 on Georgia last year. The only reason GA struggled this year is because their OLINE was decimated this year, and it started with losing their best Tackle at the beginning of the Season. I could care less about the traditional bowl tie ins, my point is SEC teams that are ranked in the middle or toward the bottom play schools ranked higher in their respective conference, doesnt change the fact the SEC still has the best bowl win percentage n history
EVERY conference has mismatches in bowl games LOL. Your problem is that you are only looking at the SEC games. The Big Ten does, and I named an example. Look back to last year, MSU vs Boston College. That was a mismatch based on the conference rankings.
Lastly, if you want to implement your system, match-up each team based on their conference record, the system has to change. The system isn't built that way.
Maybe if each conference paired up and did all of their bowl games together you could get what you want, 1:1 conference matchups. Or the bowl committees organize their selections in such a way that they eliminate tie-ins and select based on record. But that's not the way it works today.
Georgia would be the 3rd best team in the SEC, that's off the top of my head, but they have a date with MSU, the 3rd best in the B10. They can't play two bowl games.
But if the SEC is as tough as you say, why did Missouri dominate Arkansas? Arkansas beat the national champ last year, so I wouldn't call them a bad team.
But Arkansas still finished the middle of the pack last year in the SEC, LSU was at the end of a brutal SEC schedule in which they barely escaped week in and week out, and they got caught, it happens. Mizzou was a great team last year and got matched up with an inconsisten Arkansas team whose head coach had just been fired. But thats my point why do mid level SEC teams get matched up with Top Big 12 talent, its because the SEC is deep.
1. Arkansas was licked pretty bad and they weren't that bad of a team. So what does that tell you about how "deep" the SEC is? The game wasn't even competitive. Maybe other conferences are just as good or better.
2. I already told you why the middle of the pack is matched up with the bigger names. The bowl selection process is to blame. A couple years ago, Iowa(6-6) got matched up with Texas(9-3) and #3 in the B12. zOMG unfair, but it can't be helped.
Its simple, you know what tells me the SEC is deep. They produce teams that win their BCS bowl games, more than any other conference. Now try and follow me, those teams at the top of the SEC that win all those BCS bowls, including national championships, got tested on a weekly basis, in their conference, especially LSU last year. FL worked over the conference this year because its a down year. The SEC also produces the most pro talent. The difference is visible on the field.
Actually the Big East has done the best in the BCS bowls, % wise. The difference is visible on the field eh? Was it visible when Duke beat Vandy? Besides the blowout losses of OSU, the SEC bowl games are generally close.
Your going to cherry pick one game? Vandy at that, who is good every four years and by good I mean a mid level SEC team in a down year for the SEC. SEC players get drafted and start in the NFL more than any other conference. I watch all conferences, I watch College Football all day, I love it, any non biased moron can see what the overall most entertaining and talented conference is.
Then you arent reading my arguments. It really is simple if you dont try to fight it. The SEC is the deepest conference top to bottom and there are 3 pages of logical argument if you wish to go back through them, because I think Im done adding to it.
Hows my logic flawed. More NFL Talent. More Bowl Wins historically. Higher Winning Bowl Percentage Historically. Most BCS Wins. 3 of the last 5 National Champions, Champions who I see with my own eyes get tested on a weekly basis. How is my logic flawed? You probably dont even watch SEC football or probably started this year or something. Because its obvious that your a homer. Homers try to make the facts fit their arguments and ignore the obvious ones. Thats what your doing
You continually ignore everything I say to you, and you keep redefining your argument. You have yet to prove that the SEC has a richer tradition than the other conferences.
You have yet to address to admit that I am correct as to why Missouri was matched up with Ark.
You have yet to acknowledge that conferences like the B10 and Pac10 sent only their champion to bowl games since 1976.
Bowl appearances don't mean anything. The B10 has the most BCS bowl appearances...
Its not "my conference" I dont own a conference. Im a Canes Fan, Im a College Football fan, I just call it how it see it, and oh BTW how a supermajority of analysts and college football experts also see it. The SEC is the Deepest. They always field 2 teams in BCS games then they have to field their next 4 best teams against the Big 10's next best and 3rd best, the Big 12's second best, and the ACC's second best. The SEC conference goes a long way.
I repeat, SEC most BCS bowl VICTORIES, SEC best historical Bowl WIN PERCENTAGE, and considering they go to so many, that isnt easy. Im talking about Conference Depth, the SEC is the best. You can have tradition, although if you want tradition, I REPEAT the SEC has a tradition of winning, Mizzou was matched up with Arkansas because of Traditional Bowl Tie ins, and the reason a mid level SEC team goes against a top level Big 12 team in that game is because so many bowls want a piece of the SEC
*sigh* you don't get it. I'll let you get the last word but here is my last input.
All conferences have multiple tie-ins and end up with mismatches. It is not an indication of conference strength because ALL conferences have the same issues.
Winning, especially recent wins, is not everything. Consider Ohio State. They haven't won a big game in years but they still end up with top 5 recruiting classes, and are projected to have one for years to come. Clearly, it's not about wins....
Like I said you can have your tradition, although to say the SEC does not have a tradition is ridiculous, if your going to argue about tradition, its always going to be subject to a biased opinion on what tradition is better and why. Its subjective and open to interpretation, however, who has the best conference in college football is not subjective or open to interpretation, because there are facts and evidence as to who that is.
No not all conferences have the same mismatches, I just told you. They always field 2 teams in BCS games then they have to field their next 4 best teams against the Big 10's next best and 3rd best, the Big 12's second best, and the ACC's second best. Not about Wins? It is when your measuring a conference strength.
The B10 has always fielded 2 teams in the BCS bowls. They have more appearances than the SEC. Therefore, it follows from your logic, that the B10 will have the same mismatches.
I have already given you examples of this because I could argue the SAME thing for the B10 LOL!!! I'm not gonna look at the other conferences because all I need to show is that it applies elsewhere.
You cant argue the same thing for the Big 10 because they get their ass handed to them in BCS games and the SEC does not. Also, you have teams ranked 5th and 6th in the SEC playing teams ranked 2nd or 3rd in the Big 12 and ACC...EVERY YEAR. I understand your argument about Tradition and thats fine, because you want so bad to believe that the SEC is not the best conference in Football, and since you cant go by performance to validate your argument, you choose tradition, FINE, you win.
Which bowl features SEC # 6 vs Big Ten #2? The Big Ten #2 is usually playing a BCS game. Also, I believe the record of SEC vs Big Ten in bowl games over the past five years has been pretty even.
I said Big 12 and ACC, my point was the SEC teams get spread out in more bowls. #4 Ole Miss against #3 Texas Tech. #8 Kentucky against #1 East Carolina. #6 South Carolina against #4 Iowa. #7 LSU against #2 Georgia Tech. #5 Vanderbilt against #3 Boston College. The Cocks coming off 2 blowout losses predictably lost to a hot Iowa. All those other SEC teams won. Bama folded against Utah, but Florida won the Championship the 3rd in a row for the SEC, Georgia won its game too.
Beating Arkansas doesn't count. USC just schedules the weak teams from big conferences to make it look better. In reality, they might as well just be scheduling Idaho or Temple.
Thats fine, doesnt change the fact the SEC is deeper top to bottom, you can cherry pick any instance you want, overall the numbers are on my side of the argument.
There are fair match-ups this bowl season. There are just too many conferences to match-up. Blame the bowl tie-ins. Ask poor Boise State how bowl tie-ins screwed their chance of playing on New Years. All of those bowls are locked down with conference tie-ins.
You need to realize that the 5th best SEC team isn't believed to be as good as the B12 champ. It only gets drawn that way because of the BCS bowl selections, the bowl tie-ins, and the bowl selection order.
all you florida fans, michigan wasent a very good team last year and they played away not near michigan in a florida environment and mostly dominated the whole game. ALL THE SEC IS OVER RATED TREMENDOUSLY, I WILL REPEAT THE SEC IS OVERRATED!!!! WAT WA MICHIGAN 8-4 OR SOMETHING, people were saying florida is so good. YEAH TELL THAT TO THE SCORE. ESPN IS BIAST BCZ ALL THEY TALK ABOUT IS THE SEC, AND THE CONFERENCE ISNT THAT GOOD.
Then why do they boast the best BCS record among the conferences, not to mention the last 2 national champions? Oh ya the most NFL talent. And um the two best teams in the country... right now. Michigan finally started playing to their potential at the end of last year and came away with one. It happens on any given day, you cant say the SEC sucks or is overrated because the FACTS dont back you up. Homer
The reason they lost to Wiscy and OSU was because Chad henne wasnt healthy. Had the team been in the shape they were in this game Michigan would have stomped OSU and Wisconsin. They lost to App St (which isnt a bad team at all) and Oregon (which isnt a bad team either) and that was because they couldnt keep Ahmanti Edwards and Dennis Dixon in check.
It didn't matter what kind of shape Michigan was in, in 07 OSU was superior to UM period even if UM played OSU the way they played Florida they still would've lost, Michigan lost to OSU because they were better. Remember that game should've been 21-3, instead of 14-3, When it comes to Wiscy you maybe right.
I will definitely say that OSU won that game....Fair and square. No arguements here but no one knows what would have happened with a game vs. a healthy Michigan team. You can not make that comment and have any legitimacy behind it. It is a "What if" situation.
14-3 and our QBs arm was barley attached the year before that a phantom helmet to helmet call was made on our 6'5 LB on your 5"11 QB one of the weakest calls ever saved OSU in Columbus
This is the Chad Henne that Miami needs! Jake is a beast!

At least Michigan and Wisconsin go out and win their bowl games.
mikesul16 2 years ago
Mike do you know that Mich is 1-4 and WISC is 2 -3 ( And they have played much weaker opponents) in their las 5 bowl games as compared to tOSU's 2-3 ? And they have both been embarrased. Do you watch much football? Because I can't tell.
tdozzy 2 years ago
Obviously this guy doesn't watch much football. Michigan does get their asses beat on a regular basis in bowl games, for the exception of this one. Wisconsin's 2-3 over the last 5, just like OSU, only their 2 wins were in meaningless bowls. OSU has 2 BCS wins, and another that the refs screwed us out of, over the last 5 bowls. Plus, how many Big Ten schools over the last 2+ decades have won a true national championship other than 2002 OSU? 97 Michigan was a split title, Nebraska was better
BillyBong05 2 years ago
That may be the dumbest comment I have ever read! Sounds like an OSU fan not giving credit where credit is due. Look at that '97 Michigan team and tell me they were not dominant. They DESTROYED #2 (at the time Penn St.), they were up 20-0 on OSU, That team sent so many players to the NFL it was ridiculous. Nebrasak was nowhere even near that U of M team. Tom Osborne (one of the most respected coaches) calls it quits right in time to receive votes.

Don't worry, Michigan won't be getting beat in a BCS game anytime soon b/c they won't get there. Take your annual beating from Ohio State and pray you get past ND and MSU to make it to a bowl game this year. Michigan has too much history and too many resources for RR to have them at such a low level.

Since you're only 14 you're bound to grow a few inches no homo so your body can easily carry that extra weight. Just eat a lot of carbs and drink a lot of protein powder/milk.

well my favorite team is PITT and they have tradtion too I mean 9 national titles is pretty good so you could say the Big East has some tradition too, I know recent years this conference has been down but its not their I mean the Big East got raided by the ACC I mean we used to have a badass conference with Miami ,Virgina Tech, and Boston College. but we are loaded with traditon PITT and Syracuse have traditons even WVU does, even Louisville and Rutgers first college football game played there
PENS68 3 years ago
SEC has that great history and tradition which basically what I am saying is it has that reputation and it will never lose that, which is why it will always be looked at as the best conference in college football
PENS68 3 years ago
Because the B10, BXII, and even the Pac10 don't have tradition.....right.
Ask Oklahoma and Texas about tradition. Those two schools have more football tradition than the entire SEC.
Ohio State, Michigan, Penn State, even Minnesota make the list of top traditions over most of the SEC.
Outside of Bama, there really isn't that much football tradition in the SEC. Recent success is not the same as tradition.
MauricXe 3 years ago
Then why do they boast the best BCS record among the conferences, not to mention the last 2 national champions? Oh ya the most NFL talent. The SEC is having a down year, yet they have 2 of the best teams in the country, and you can expect them to be 2 of the best for some time. Michigan finally started playing to their potential at the end of last year and came away with one. It happens on any given day, you cant say the SEC sucks or is overrated because the FACTS dont back you up. Homer
gdgipson 3 years ago
The object of this discussion is tradition. No one argues about the recent success of the SEC, that isn't even what the discussion is about.
Sorry, try again.
MauricXe 3 years ago
The SEC historically has more Bowl Appearances than any other conference... by far.
gdgipson 3 years ago
I wouldn't put to much stock in that. Most conferences only had one bowl tie in. For instance, the B10 and the Pac10 only sent their champ to the Rose Bowl at the end of the year. No other teams went beyond that.
MauricXe 3 years ago
Ya of course not, and the SEC doesnt have any tradition, because of tradition of winning doesnt count. Right?
gdgipson 3 years ago
Can you pin your argument down to one specific claim?
The SEC probably has the most recent success of any conference, but being a flash in the pan doesn't yield tradition.
Tradition isn't just about the wins. It's about the alumni, the player awards, the fans, the championships, the talent, the legendary coaches, memorable games, and the other cool activities that programs have, e.g. dotting the I.
MauricXe 3 years ago
OK so the SEC has games that draw huge crowds, check, the SEC has award winners, check, the SEC has the best coaches of any conference right now, as well some guy from Alabama, was it Bear or Bryant, gee I dont know. There was a great game between Bama and Florida just last week, Im sure there have been a couple of great games with a guy named Bo Jackson, or maybe Herschel Walker, do I have enough room to go through the history of great SEC games? Cmon man, you can have your dot the I.
gdgipson 3 years ago

SEC is and always will be the best conference in college football
PENS68 3 years ago
Big X11 > SEC.
MauricXe 3 years ago
You have that opinion MauriceXe that the Big 12 is better than the SEC because the SEC has the last two national championships, the last 3 out of five, one of those against Oklahoma and Oklahoma has choked in its last two BCS games?
gdgipson 3 years ago
This year the B12 is the best conference in the nation. 3 legit title contenders came out of that conference, 5 of the top offenses and 3 Heisman worthy QBs.
MauricXe 3 years ago
3 legit title contenders and not a one can beat Florida. You think Oklahoma is going to score 60 against the Gators, wrong, this an SEC Defense not a big 12 Defense. Again this a down year, a year where 2 successful coaches were fired, a down year that still has 2 powerhouses. The SEC is the deepest and best on a more consistent basis. They produce the most talent, they produce the most bowl victories.
gdgipson 3 years ago
You don't think any of those teams can beat FLA? What about the rest of the SEC? If the SEC is just made up of one team, then you just about kill your argument. As does your claim that having only two powerhouses being a good thing. If the conference is down, those teams should have no trouble blowing through the conference and a high ranking is assured. We will see this bowl season.
We will see how OU does against FLA. Personally, I think Texas would do better, because OU has a poor D.
MauricXe 3 years ago
Like I've said its a down year. Florida did blow through the SEC, go and look, they slipped up once against Ole Miss, who plays them tough every season, and is better than you think. Nonetheless the are still a mid level SEC usually towards the bottom, yet they get matched up with Texas Tech this year, one of your so called contenders. Why is that? Why did the 5th Best SEC team in Arkansas get matched up with the Mizzou last year, the second best Big 12 team. You know why.
gdgipson 3 years ago
I do know why actually. It is due to the bowl selection and the order of the bowl selections. Obviously, if they could, they would match up each and every team with equal records, but its not possible.
MauricXe 3 years ago
Ya and everybody goes after the SEC teams first, thats why when you get to the Cotton Bowl you get the second or third best Big 12 Team against the 5th or 6th best SEC team.
gdgipson 3 years ago
As another example:
Consider Illinois vs USC in the Rose Bowl. The #1 team in the Pac-10 vs. the #3 team in the B10. This match-up should NOT have been made, and not because of the results.
Blame the traditional bowl tie-ins. USC should have played Georgia, and Illinois should have played Hawaii. Although I think USC would have put 50 on GA, and Illinois the same against Hawaii, the match-ups would have better reflected the BCS rankings and the conference rankings.
MauricXe 3 years ago
Your insane if you think USC would have put 50 on Georgia last year. The only reason GA struggled this year is because their OLINE was decimated this year, and it started with losing their best Tackle at the beginning of the Season. I could care less about the traditional bowl tie ins, my point is SEC teams that are ranked in the middle or toward the bottom play schools ranked higher in their respective conference, doesnt change the fact the SEC still has the best bowl win percentage n history
gdgipson 3 years ago
EVERY conference has mismatches in bowl games LOL. Your problem is that you are only looking at the SEC games. The Big Ten does, and I named an example. Look back to last year, MSU vs Boston College. That was a mismatch based on the conference rankings.
MauricXe 3 years ago
Lastly, if you want to implement your system, match-up each team based on their conference record, the system has to change. The system isn't built that way.
Maybe if each conference paired up and did all of their bowl games together you could get what you want, 1:1 conference matchups. Or the bowl committees organize their selections in such a way that they eliminate tie-ins and select based on record. But that's not the way it works today.
MauricXe 3 years ago
Georgia would be the 3rd best team in the SEC, that's off the top of my head, but they have a date with MSU, the 3rd best in the B10. They can't play two bowl games.
But if the SEC is as tough as you say, why did Missouri dominate Arkansas? Arkansas beat the national champ last year, so I wouldn't call them a bad team.
MauricXe 3 years ago
arkansas lost darren mcfadden and felix jones
there is no way they could be half as good
they are perenially awful. minus two years in the last three
risingglory 3 years ago
McFadden and Jones both played in the Missouri loss.
MauricXe 3 years ago
But Arkansas still finished the middle of the pack last year in the SEC, LSU was at the end of a brutal SEC schedule in which they barely escaped week in and week out, and they got caught, it happens. Mizzou was a great team last year and got matched up with an inconsisten Arkansas team whose head coach had just been fired. But thats my point why do mid level SEC teams get matched up with Top Big 12 talent, its because the SEC is deep.
gdgipson 3 years ago
2 things:
MauricXe 3 years ago
Its simple, you know what tells me the SEC is deep. They produce teams that win their BCS bowl games, more than any other conference. Now try and follow me, those teams at the top of the SEC that win all those BCS bowls, including national championships, got tested on a weekly basis, in their conference, especially LSU last year. FL worked over the conference this year because its a down year. The SEC also produces the most pro talent. The difference is visible on the field.
gdgipson 3 years ago
Actually the Big East has done the best in the BCS bowls, % wise. The difference is visible on the field eh? Was it visible when Duke beat Vandy? Besides the blowout losses of OSU, the SEC bowl games are generally close.
MauricXe 3 years ago
Your going to cherry pick one game? Vandy at that, who is good every four years and by good I mean a mid level SEC team in a down year for the SEC. SEC players get drafted and start in the NFL more than any other conference. I watch all conferences, I watch College Football all day, I love it, any non biased moron can see what the overall most entertaining and talented conference is.
gdgipson 3 years ago
LOL you accuse me of cherry picking, but yet your entire argument is based on one game/matchup.
MauricXe 3 years ago
Then you arent reading my arguments. It really is simple if you dont try to fight it. The SEC is the deepest conference top to bottom and there are 3 pages of logical argument if you wish to go back through them, because I think Im done adding to it.
gdgipson 3 years ago
Your logic is flawed plain and simple. Continue ignoring the facts.
MauricXe 3 years ago
Hows my logic flawed. More NFL Talent. More Bowl Wins historically. Higher Winning Bowl Percentage Historically. Most BCS Wins. 3 of the last 5 National Champions, Champions who I see with my own eyes get tested on a weekly basis. How is my logic flawed? You probably dont even watch SEC football or probably started this year or something. Because its obvious that your a homer. Homers try to make the facts fit their arguments and ignore the obvious ones. Thats what your doing
gdgipson 3 years ago
You continually ignore everything I say to you, and you keep redefining your argument. You have yet to prove that the SEC has a richer tradition than the other conferences.
You have yet to address to admit that I am correct as to why Missouri was matched up with Ark.
You have yet to acknowledge that conferences like the B10 and Pac10 sent only their champion to bowl games since 1976.
Bowl appearances don't mean anything. The B10 has the most BCS bowl appearances...
MauricXe 3 years ago
Continued..
does that make the B10 the best conference? Nope.
Funny you would call me a homer but yet you argue for your conference just as much as I argue against.
You probably thought Tebow deserved the Heisman this year lol.
MauricXe 3 years ago
Its not "my conference" I dont own a conference. Im a Canes Fan, Im a College Football fan, I just call it how it see it, and oh BTW how a supermajority of analysts and college football experts also see it. The SEC is the Deepest. They always field 2 teams in BCS games then they have to field their next 4 best teams against the Big 10's next best and 3rd best, the Big 12's second best, and the ACC's second best. The SEC conference goes a long way.
gdgipson 3 years ago
LOL I didn't say you owned a conference. Maybe you need a lesson in English and word usage ;)
And the B10 always fields 2 BCS teams, and they have the most appearances in the BCS, so its moot.
MauricXe 3 years ago
More appearances, less wins, not moot.
gdgipson 3 years ago
I repeat, SEC most BCS bowl VICTORIES, SEC best historical Bowl WIN PERCENTAGE, and considering they go to so many, that isnt easy. Im talking about Conference Depth, the SEC is the best. You can have tradition, although if you want tradition, I REPEAT the SEC has a tradition of winning, Mizzou was matched up with Arkansas because of Traditional Bowl Tie ins, and the reason a mid level SEC team goes against a top level Big 12 team in that game is because so many bowls want a piece of the SEC
gdgipson 3 years ago
*sigh* you don't get it. I'll let you get the last word but here is my last input.
All conferences have multiple tie-ins and end up with mismatches. It is not an indication of conference strength because ALL conferences have the same issues.
Winning, especially recent wins, is not everything. Consider Ohio State. They haven't won a big game in years but they still end up with top 5 recruiting classes, and are projected to have one for years to come. Clearly, it's not about wins....
MauricXe 3 years ago
...continued.
Winning is only ONE facet of tradition, as I have said before which you seem to ignore, it is not the only factor.
MauricXe 3 years ago
Like I said you can have your tradition, although to say the SEC does not have a tradition is ridiculous, if your going to argue about tradition, its always going to be subject to a biased opinion on what tradition is better and why. Its subjective and open to interpretation, however, who has the best conference in college football is not subjective or open to interpretation, because there are facts and evidence as to who that is.
gdgipson 3 years ago
No not all conferences have the same mismatches, I just told you. They always field 2 teams in BCS games then they have to field their next 4 best teams against the Big 10's next best and 3rd best, the Big 12's second best, and the ACC's second best. Not about Wins? It is when your measuring a conference strength.
gdgipson 3 years ago
I promise this is my last comment;)
The B10 has always fielded 2 teams in the BCS bowls. They have more appearances than the SEC. Therefore, it follows from your logic, that the B10 will have the same mismatches.
I have already given you examples of this because I could argue the SAME thing for the B10 LOL!!! I'm not gonna look at the other conferences because all I need to show is that it applies elsewhere.
MSU vs. BC last year.
Iowa vs. Texas two years back.
Illinois vs. USC last year.
MauricXe 3 years ago
You cant argue the same thing for the Big 10 because they get their ass handed to them in BCS games and the SEC does not. Also, you have teams ranked 5th and 6th in the SEC playing teams ranked 2nd or 3rd in the Big 12 and ACC...EVERY YEAR. I understand your argument about Tradition and thats fine, because you want so bad to believe that the SEC is not the best conference in Football, and since you cant go by performance to validate your argument, you choose tradition, FINE, you win.
gdgipson 3 years ago
Which bowl features SEC # 6 vs Big Ten #2? The Big Ten #2 is usually playing a BCS game. Also, I believe the record of SEC vs Big Ten in bowl games over the past five years has been pretty even.
bsta93 3 years ago

One more thing, USC has dominated the SEC in recent years, so I don't doubt they would put 50 up on ANY SEC team.
MauricXe 3 years ago
Beating Arkansas doesn't count. USC just schedules the weak teams from big conferences to make it look better. In reality, they might as well just be scheduling Idaho or Temple.
rossinole 3 years ago
They beat both Auburn and Arkansas.
The second time they beat Arkansas, Arkansas contended for the SEC title.
MauricXe 3 years ago
Thats fine, doesnt change the fact the SEC is deeper top to bottom, you can cherry pick any instance you want, overall the numbers are on my side of the argument.
gdgipson 3 years ago
To add because of space:
There are fair match-ups this bowl season. There are just too many conferences to match-up. Blame the bowl tie-ins. Ask poor Boise State how bowl tie-ins screwed their chance of playing on New Years. All of those bowls are locked down with conference tie-ins.
You need to realize that the 5th best SEC team isn't believed to be as good as the B12 champ. It only gets drawn that way because of the BCS bowl selections, the bowl tie-ins, and the bowl selection order.
MauricXe 3 years ago
all you florida fans, michigan wasent a very good team last year and they played away not near michigan in a florida environment and mostly dominated the whole game. Sec is not in any way over rated
and Michigan wasnt bad last year at all
The reason they lost to Wiscy and OSU was because Chad henne wasnt healthy.
Henderson711 3 years ago
Michigan stomp OSU, thats funny.
ACDCluva10 2 years ago
I will definitely say that OSU won that game....Fair and square. No arguements here but no one knows what would have happened with a game vs. a healthy Michigan team. You can not make that comment and have any legitimacy behind it. It is a "What if" situation.
