able-bodied, healthy, wealthy non-muslim males who r not in debt have to pay a small tax, no children or women, they DONT have to serve in the military.

Muslims have to pay the zakat (takken from your salary, land, lifestock, food, jelwes, etc.), (and some cases Khums, a fifth of your salary), and do have to serve in the military.

Muslims have to pay more for there devotion to God and willingness to help the poor.

@wajidmajid You are wrong. The Jizya was well after the other verses in the Chapter Tawbah was revealed. If you read the Ulama they say this. Plus it is well known that the Ulama have said that the one who doesn't pay Jizya must be fought. The Messenger said: "If they refuse, then seek Allah's help and fight them."

In Canada, we're not allowed to kill ANYONE! Christian, Muslim, or otherwise. Murdering people for not refusing to pay a humiliation tax, or if they've dishonored your family, or for any other reason, other than self-defense, is barbaric.

@wajidmajid That's not what I asked. I asked what happens if they don't pay the jizya? The answer is, they are imprisoned. I live in Canada, and that tax is, absurd. A humiliation tax, with harsh consequences, to non-compliance.

@TheCompurgator we pay charity yearly, so that is checked off, the reason for Jizya is because non-muslims usually dont give Zakat (wealth taken yearly for Charity uses). And in a muslim state, those who are not muslims dont have that obligation of giving back, they may do so, but its not a must in their eyes.

If we dont want to convert to Islam, then we must pay a tax. If we dont pay this tax, then they fight us until we do. The West dont pay Jizya so they are considered the enemy! Cant get away from the cold, hard facts of the Quran. It plainly says 'Go to war with the West'.

Islam is a peaceful religion, but only if you are Muslim or if you are non-muslim succumbing to them by paying the Jizya.

In regards to the Jizya, we read from Ibn Ishaq 643

"He who pays that to God's apostle has the guarantee of God and His apostle, and he who withholds it is the enemy of God and His apostle."

Sounds more like Muhammad was profiteering in the name of God.

@MrGriegos Prophet Mohammed did not even have a palace. He could had one. And he could had gold armaments too. But he worked, traveled, and lived a simple yet difficult life. So if it's just descriptive of the situation at the time why does the verse begin with the imperative 'qaatilul adheena,' and say 'hattaa yu'tul jizyat... wa hum saaghiroon', 'UNTIL they pay the jizyah... and they are subjugated,' thus indicating that it hasn't happened yet?

He's also claiming that this situation was right then, but seemingly not now. Seems a bit tenuous to me, given the Qur'an's claim to be guidance for all time.

Muslims are obligated to pay zakat, 2.5 percent of the savings beyond a clearly defined threshold

Non Muslims in a Muslim state are obligated to pay jizya and not zakat, jizya is based on the savings, what is left after the expenses. In return, the Non Muslims in Muslim state are exempt from draft, in case of a foreign attack. Muslim government is required to protect the Non Muslims.

This explanation of Jizyah appears to contradict the tafsir of Ibn Kathir who explains that the end of the ayah "people of the book feeling subdued" as a condition not allowing them to dominate over Muslims in a Muslim country.

Ibn Kathir is a scholar , and scholars can be wrong , and in this case he is 100% wrong.

many other scholars of balaga(an arabic science) cross referenced this verse with other verses in the Quran , history , and other meanings of the word "an yadin wa hum sagirun"

That phrase means in the light of the Quran which is a higher authority than ibn kathir, "Submiting to the authority of the state" just like how we all submit to our governments by paying taxes and abiding to the law
