I wish people would stop moaning about the rain in 1988. That was the Sunday. On the Saturday it was cold and windy, but I wouldn't have missed it for the world. Even better than the 1988 concert was the 1993 one at Wembley stadium.
Great concert but would have been much better if Newham Council hadn't banned it through small-mindedness! It was supposed to be the last weekend in September and a one off show, the council refused permission for it to go ahead and panicked when everywhere else in the world asked for it instead! They compromised, split it into 2 shows & held it 2 weeks later when it poured with rain. As for the video MM had his hands tied due to the weather wiping out half the cameras. September was sunny!
being spanish, this guy represent the influence of french people in the world, no only in fashion, cooking, perfumes, but in electric music, buying JMJ staff since i remember, i remember the first time i listen to oxigene, and i was studing in EEUU when performed in Houston , with vangelis, neuronum, father of electronic music
Excellente! Thank You So Mucho! I was there in the Drizzle and The Perishing Cold! It WAS Awesome! Went to a Rough East End Boozer Wiv Mi Indian Friend After and I Nearly Got Glassed! Good Job I Can Blarney! Interesting Times....Love Knicki Jones xx
Got to say, this was one of JMJ's worst albums! After rendezvous, nothing was as good. Of course, we get a concert in London, (where most of the UK can't get to easily), and being the UK it p*sses it down. Jarre said "frogs like the rain", because of the usual gutter tripe from the Brit press about him being French. Redezvous Houston was his best concert by a mile!
Sadly i didnt go to this..wish i did..but I have remade this concert-based on the radio broadcasts and visual descriptions. Im in the middle of making the dvds now. The ENTIRE concert! wow! Im sorry to say, Mike Mansfields original video was DREADFUL(fans who attended have agreed!) well done on this video. I prefer the original version rather than the shipyard version..but still GOOD SHOW MATE!
..then I remember JMJ saying "Sorry about the weather -but you know -frogs like the rain!" Then just before "London Kid" he introduced "Meester Honk Marveen" lol
i remember running getting off the docklands light railway as it was 5 minutes away from starting... people walking down started to pick up the pace as we saw the giant spots lights and heard the sounds... then running, all of us started to run down, i ran past an bright orange jacketed official into the concert as they were desperately trying to check for tickets, didn't have a chance, such a throng of people running in, all excited, i stood near the front/left near the biggest speaker ever! :)
LOL I remember it too -going there on the offchance I could get a ticket off a tout then the word went down the queue that there were still tickets on the gate. I nearly froze me nuts off it was so cold! Then I went to the second one the day after and it pissed down. I'll never forget that chanting when all those bloody brolleys went up: "Get em down, get em down, get em down!"
A very long, cold, wet and dreary day. My wife and I sat on the cold tarmac regretting being there. I lost some money and didn't have enough for 2 hot dogs, so I only got one...... Then the show started. The best firework display I've ever seen. Somehow those dreadful conditions contributed to the rawness of fantastic music. It was definately worth the wait!
Yes the music is from Gdansk, it is not intended as a false video, i just think that the Gdansk version of Industrial Revolution Overture has a bit more kick. I fail too see the problem.
How nice to see this again - I was fortunate enough to work on the OB for this event - a huge undertaking - and had a fantastic time, despite the weather being vile. The Royal Vitoria Dock's changed a bit since JMJ's appearance mind..
Thank You For sharing this wonderful talent and music . Blessings your heart with love, peace and harmony. :)

This is my favourite Jarre's concert. Its bladerunneresque mood and apocalyptic scenography had a huge impact on my imagination.
