  • democratic systems can't exist without liberal social ideals: such as rights for all..

So the neo-cons wanting to spread "democrocy" is sort of ironic...

  • Time for the Flying Spaghetti Monster to return to Earth and touch unbelievers with his noodly appendages.

  • So the neo cons pulled a Soviet Union with Iraq spreading lies about weapons they didn't have. Wolfowitz, Cheney, Rumsfeld, they did this before.

  • @enlightened1ish

History tends to repeat for those that fall asleep in history class.

  • I think Justin Bieber is a Russian spy sent out to destroy music.

  • @johnnymexica No. "They are demons set loose on the earth to lower the standards for the perfect and holy children of god, which is what we are. Make no mistake about it!" -Bill Hicks

  • Fitting description of a 'most profoundly sick society'.

  • jesus fucking christ i hate neocons.. their whole ideology is based on a falsehood and their extremely condescending cunts..

  • @YourHeartIsTheKey A neocon calling themselves a christian must be the very epitome of hipocracy, Funny that, considering the demographics of the US (to name but one example).

  • Adam Curtis is a legend!!!

  • the soldiers dancing w/ rifles to "baby it's cold outside", priceless!

  • The only thing we have to really fear is fear itself and the leaders in sheep's clothing who feed us fears in order to justify their power and wealth at the expense of our liberty and wealth.

  • Just as "The Art of Winning" became "The Art of Conquest," the phrase "...wipe Israel off the face of the map" (for which there is no word in Farsi) has been invented from "I hope the current regime fails."

  • As what one certain Rock and Roll singer once said, "When the power of love overtakes the love of power, that's when there will be peace in the world" (hint: it wasn't Huey Lewis who said it-you must find out for yourself). AwesomeBeatles, please shut up: Don't you understand that the Patriot Act took away every American's right to rent a library book without being watched? And that 'War on Terrorism' is an excuse to take away our freedom? The real terrorists are the International Bankers!

  • So, these guys are our saviors. This is why we need The Patroit Act, The war on terror ? Also, the sixties had a little something happening called Vietnam. We are to stupid to think for ourselves , so we need these guys to subvert our Constitution and implement The New World Order. Well, if the masses are not given the facts or are lied to outright, of course the masses cannot participate in the great experiment. Fear is a very powerful weapon used against the masses. Wake up slaves.

  • These criminal thugs running the USGov need to be arrested, placed on trial and executed for war crimes and crimes against humanity.

  • baby it's cold outside fits so well to this it's chilling

  • why would the bbc put out this documentary

  • can anyone tell which is the song at 11:10

  • 26.07-...

Donald Rumsfeld. The accuracy in his statement is questionable at best.

I don't hate America. I don't even claim this documentary to be entirely true.

But there are truths in it

  • 14:00 In other words...he's bragging that someone cracked after being tortured. Big surprise...lol His wording sounds a lot nicer though..

  • Strauss most influential student was Milton Friedman whose economic ideas are the basis for the explosive growth in the global middle class.Chile,China,Brazil,Poland - all modelled on Friedman."Those who value equality over freedom will have little of either. But those who value freedom over equality will have a great deal of both." - Friedman.

  • @REVELONRAY Friedman's ideas are universal and can be applied anywhere. I consider Friedman as Smith of new age.

  • China is hardly libertarian...

Strauss was an elitist fucker but Friedman wanted to take conservative America back to it's traditional political values.

  • This is 50% delusion.About QUTB he is correct.About neo-conservatism - totally wrong. In fact the most influential neo-cons were SOCIAL DEMOCRATS.Just as Nazism was a threat to freedom so was Communism. As the Dem party fell to the far left those SD's turned to Reagan. And as socialism failed they turned to free market capitalism. And today the new Nazi's are Islamist. And QUTB is their Karl Marx and Hitler all rolled into one.

  • @REVELONRAY what the fuck are you talking about,

this is a mishmash of total bs and personal opinion

  • @AddictiveHerring Do you mean the documentary or his comment? (& it you do know that it is possible to react to several people at once right? Like this: @AddictiveHerring but then with another user.)

  • @marcos20 alves. You present a semi-informed, somewhat simplistic aprroach to the problems that beset the West. For example: you refer to people 'as lazy scum', and cite the UK riots of which you clearly have only passing knowledge; this conveniently ignores the FACT that in Tottenham north London, 50 young people are chasing every available job; funding for much-needed social projects has been cut to the bone, directly due to the incompetence and venality of bankers, and not decent people.

  • Excellent documentary, everyone should watch this

  • Individualism is the enemy the state.

  • the guy who starts talking at 08:58 sounds like Prof Steven Hawking

  • Adam Curtis tells it like it is in a world increasingly filled with individuals who tell it like they are told to. He should never be censored and i tip my hat to him.

  • BBC has an anti-american slant.

  • @itcanbecheezcaketime

just because this particular documentary paints our leaders in the light they cast themselves in doesn't mean bbc is biased

  • @AddictiveHerring

My beliefs that the BBC is anti-american is not just from this one documentary. I never implied that it was strictly because of this "particular documentary", or that it was even about this documentary at all.

  • Those who invent lies inevitably come to believe in them. That has to be the worst of all positions from which to forge policy. The world needs critical thinking like never before.

  • Politicians are a breed. The ideologies they espouse are either promulagated to further their own personal interests or exert control over others who can outthink them. Poor and non-existent thinking by politicians have led to some very expensive errors which they later diss as being "in the past" while "lawfully" forcing the bulk of the population (generally those least wealthy) to pay for through taxation. Leaky homes costing billions to fix and coalmine disasters are two prime examples.

  • 19:00 Kristol was right on this. There never has been such an explosion of crime since the implementation of liberal 'social' laws. We are still suffering from this in many Western countries. Why spend hard-earned money on lazy scum? See the results for instance in Britain where cities are burning. The underclass is the new leisure class and decent, hardworking people have become its slaves. I wish people would wake up.

  • sometimes the line that separates Osama Bin Laden from western politcians seems so thin

  • @marcos20alves

That is a specious comparison and is too simplistic to be rationally useful. However, there is a thin line between the Islamicists and the Christian Fundamentalists.

  • Since Dresden... and increasingly as time passes, it's been hard to respect the US.

  • Mr Curtis makes a mighty fine documentary.

  • Sayyid Qutb had a Hitler mustache in 1949 ;strange when you consider the popularity of Hitler at that time. Qutb's "concern" with American's spending time at lawn care is also strange. I think it shows he did not understand the principles of property rights. Anything purchased and thus privately OWNED will be better maintained by the owners then rented or entitled property. Interesting video none the less.

  • @feck2112 Yes... it's all about the mustache. My God but you are a fuckin' idiot!

  • watch the trap. david curtis basicly agrees with sayyid qutb

  • what is very wrong about this theory is the assumption that those neo-con's are sincere and actually want to change the world for good. the real truth is that every single leader is corrupt and lie all the time so they can full their pockets. full stop. i think its extremely naive to believe the government elite actually care about their people. its actually a joke

  • Welcome to the BRAVE NEW WORLD.. when would people realise that when we create a higher society love must be a part of it. Love will cause people to be inspired follow the laws and to make society better .. when there is no love the system needs fear to keep the phony system together........ this is fascism

  • Talk about the power of nightmares...the first thing youtube suggested as this ended was Rebecca Black's 'Friday'...

  • Fuck you both.. It was from the BBC . But it doesnt make it any better . its still a piece if shit baseless reportage.

  • This is a lie. This is NOT a BBC report !!!!

  • @saint0470 Are you an idiot? Or are you incapable of using the internet? There is a wiki page about it, sheesh.

  • @saint0470 Need a friend? Or just troll thru life.

  • ABSOLUTELY AMAZING........... thank you for the upload...

  • HAHA the Song at the end is hilarious.

  • We live in interesting times

  • When did this originally air?

  • @toweronepower 2005

  • @toweronepower several years ago over here in the uk, there is a new 3 parter just started last monday by him on the so called promise of a new wonderful life via computers, brilliant, interesting stuff again, the guy certainly makes you think and question some of our beloved beliefs

  • @thatwilldonicely Ya das ist gut!!

  • look at north of africa today, tunisia and Egypt and the press from the american media. Look at Cote d'ivoire....Coincidence? I think its time that word is a caution sign.

  • TFTD (Thought For The Day) - Perception is REALITY! (to the perceiver)

Thanks. Watching now. Downloaded the series at archive.org and was about to upload it and did a search first. That damn Adam Curtis is a "pistol"!

Between this series and his "Century of the Self" series, all Americans should have a deeper meaning of Bro. Malik Shabazz's - aka Malcolm Little, aka Malcolm X's - words: "I say you've been had. You've been took. You've been hoodwinked, bamboozled, run amok, and led astray".

  • " . . . Then think of the rise of anti-colonial nationalism, through the short period of liberal independence, the era of military coups, of insurgency, civil war, religious fanaticism, irrational struggle and uncompromising brutality against the latest bunch of "natives." Each of these phases and eras produces its own distorted knowledge of the other, each its own reductive images, its own disputatious polemics." -- Edward Said, Orientialism 25 Years Later

  • "Think of the line that starts with Napoleon, continues with the rise of Oriental studies and the takeover of North Africa, and goes on in similar undertakings in Vietnam, in Egypt, in Palestine and, during the entire twentieth century in the struggle over oil and strategic control in the Gulf, in Iraq, Syria, Palestine, and Afghanistan. . . ."

  • I really like how they show both sides here. You can see that the neo-conservatives really do believe what they are saying. That's pretty scary, of course, but seeing the gullibility of people this high up in our government is especially worrying.

  • more americans should see this; apparently it was never been allowed to be aired in the united states.

  • this is such a great series. extremists on both side leave us trapped in the middle of the conflict...
